This is a YouTube video titled "Teen Digs Up a BIG stump" (created 2023-03-05) containing a multi-speaker family/home transcript. The primary participant is Josiah (a teen) with several adult speakers (labeled SPEAKER A, C, D) and mentions of Pete, Jonah, Lily, and Rebecca. The content documents Josiah digging out a large stump, commentary on technique and a struck pipe, his sword-making in the basement, family caregiving dynamics (attention to quieter children, celebrating contributions), and routine activities like cooking burgers. The transcript captures hands-on work, encouragement, and family discussion.
Chapters
Josiah and Pete have been going at this for quite a while.
Just getting it moved. It's ready to come right up.
Oh really? Yeah, we came just in time.
We'd hear tinkering downstairs and then we'd realize Josiah was gone. He could have been gone for minutes or hours. It's hard to tell with that one since he's so quiet. He's been working in their shop on his swords. I've been meaning to give him more attention. I'm afraid since he's not the oldest, he's not the youngest, and he's not the girl, he could get lost in the shuffle, especially since he's so quiet.
Look at this stump. Holy smokes, looks like a crater's hit. Do you think he is ever going to get it, Pete?
Oh yeah.
Did you think you were going to get this up?
I thought I would maybe get it up.
Did you think you would get it up by lunch?
No.
Cuz I'm about to come tell you I'm about to start making lunch. This makes me so nervous. It's probably nothing to be nervous about, but he's putting the blade down for safety to anchor him. It's just heavy. I'm glad he's knocking it around so some because it's knocking all that dirt off of it. Do you think you'd do it by lunch? The technique for picking up a stump is probably not getting it there at the top. Something else that we don't know yet, but this is how you learn.
Boom!
Yeah! Woo! Just get it away from the hole a little more and you're done. I'll go make you lunch, bring it to you.
Jonah's dirt bike injuries and surgeries as of late have been especially hard on him, likely because he's had to do more while Jonah gets necessary but still unbalanced amount of attention with his recent surgeries.
You're gonna be proud of your boy out there digging out that gigantic stump. I came out there to check on him just in time. They're pulling this massive stump out of It looks like a little crater. Come here, Lily, I'm gonna teach you how to make burgers. Then you can do this while I'm still out there with all the things. We're getting our pans hot and frying in your hot pans. Sear each side, flip them, put salt on them. This time I like that one, it's going to be more well done. Measure the temperature in the middle, 120-ish, so you put them in the oven until they get to 135. Burger's done.
I'm wondering how we can celebrate him. He's a servant and nurturing, helping little Henry.
That's a dinosaur. There's another dinosaur.
Or like the other night, offered to cook me something. So let's love him in his own language. Rebecca had the idea that we could do his inside chores, and I think I could give him nurturing attention by paying attention to his sword collection.
You want to show me what you've been working on down in that basement?
Yeah.
Hmm, what have you been working on? Swords.
Okay.
Oh my goodness, this one isn't finished and this one either.
So what do you lack on this one? A guard. And then this one's got a straight handle. Looking good. He's beveled off this edge, making this usable. Is that good? So what's your strategy here?
To just go forward, put the bucket down, and then scrape backward. And let all the dirt just level it.
Is it working out all right?
Yeah.
Whoa, look at that! He leveled that all out.
He did good, huh?
Yeah.
What's going on? Is water still running through it?
Yeah.
At least it's not crushed. I wish it were that easy.
We're not ripping that whole thing up. We can put a—
I think you're gonna have to rip it up, fix it. We'll ask the guys. How did that get pierced?
We were driving into a bump and it just went down.
Okay, this kind of stuff's gonna happen as we learn. Could have been worse. Could have crushed that completely and the water would be just going somewhere here in the ground. And who knows where it ended up going.
This is really good.
Josiah, my man, good job! Not only did you pull up this gigantic stump, you beveled the knuckle here, smoothed it out. We can come and seed pasture here now. More milk for you, more beef and land park for you.
Maybe we should come through the rake before we do that.
Yeah, I mean, it's a little rough, but you guys are going to get better and better. For now, we could come through with a rake. It would do, it would do in a pinch, wouldn't it?
Yeah, I don't know. I feel like our fields would be this unlevel if we un— if there was no grass on them, do you know what I mean?
Like, yeah, but like little humps like this. Yeah, I would say this is a spectacular job for the first time ever smoothing out a landscape. Have you ever smoothed out a landscape? Yeah. Oh, you have? How many times?
Once.
Once? Big one? Big one? Oh, you've done it once? You missed your experience now? You missed your experience? All right, it's a good job for a second time. Hey dude, I'm very proud of you, if I didn't say that.
Okay.
Getting that stump out, even though, you know, you hit that pipe. That's gonna happen. We're learning. I'm proud of you, buddy. You proud of yourself?
Yeah.
Good.
