The best time to plant a tree

You know what they say the best time to plant a tree is? 20 years ago. Next best time? Now. I don't agree with it. Here's the reason. Trees are permanent. So I'm big time on impermanency at first. If it's been there 3 years, then make it permanent. I was trying to do the cool thing and plant an orchard, and I planted it right in here. Two problems unbeknownst to me. Problem number 1, it's kind of soggy here. We don't have a whole lot of drainage. Fruit trees do not like that. Problem number 2, We are in the frost pocket. Planted other trees, but these are not fruit trees. These are locusts because they're frost tolerant. We talk all about all that in this workshop and booklet that's coming out. I had to walk way up here to get above the frost line. Don't be Jonesin' to plant the tree. Slow down, guys. I've been homesteading 15 years and I'm finally confident of where trees are, are gonna go. Take a deep breath, slow down, focus on some other things first. Get some experience down, observe the land, then plant your trees.
