the Farm Tour - In TWO words

In this episode of the Great American Farm Tour, the host (Speaker A) distills the tour’s spirit into the two‑word mantra “Just plant.” He explains that many novice growers fear failure, but the only controllable action is to plant something, even a single tomato in a pot. The segment showcases several on‑the‑road examples: Natalie from Wisconsin planting a tomato, a seed‑sowing session at Seed Savers Exchange, a young orchard with dozens of fruit trees, and a brief interview with renowned market farmer Joel Salatin who shares that a $30‑per‑acre infrastructure can double production, effectively “buying” land. The episode concludes with a promotion of new “Just Plant” merchandise—organic t‑shirts and stainless‑steel mugs—available for a limited time, with ordering details and a call for viewer support to fund the tour’s continued work.

Beautiful Montana on the Great American Farm Tour. And I think if I can sum up the spirit of the Great American Farm Tour so far, I can do it in just two words. But first, I've taught thousands of people to grow their own food, and I've surveyed hundreds of those people, and one of the number one struggles for people trying to grow their own food, whether they're just entering or they're are growing food, one of the number one struggles people face is the fear that they're gonna kill something. Or in other words, the fear that they're going to fail. Look at me in the eye. You can't control everything. What? I have baby foods inside. You can't always control the outcomes, but there is one thing you can control, and it's the spirit of this whole Great American Farm Tour that I can sum up in two words: Just plant. So you want a beautiful garden? Then fail. You can't necessarily control the outcomes, but what you can control is this: just plant. So I'm always telling people, just plant something. Whether you're in an apartment or on a farm or have some land or something and you're not growing anything, just plant something. Even if it's a tomato plant in a pot. And then on this tour, I got the privilege of meeting somebody who was doing just that. I'm Natalie, I'm from Watertown, Wisconsin, and I'm growing a tomato plant. You're growing a tomato plant? Yep. Did you guys hear that? This is the one I've been talking about. I haven't had a name to this person yet. This is Natalie. She's growing one tomato plant. If you've heard me say it once, you've heard me say it a million times. Don't— just plant, even if it's one tomato plant in a pot. Good job, Natalie. And not long after meeting Natalie, we went to Seed Savers Exchange, and they had seeds, they had a pot, and they had soil. So despite the fact that we're living in a bus right now and we're traveling and we're going to go into California and they may take our produce and our plant, let's do it. Let's just plant. It may not work, but we're going to put a few seeds in there. Okay, hold on one second. See which one makes it, thin them out. Look, we got our little green room here, light from both directions. How many you gonna drop in there? 3 or 4? Whoops, I just put in a couple. Here, just throw some in. And then you know what happened? We harvested pizza off the land, guys. So it doesn't matter if you're Darcy and you have a few things growing in your suburbia backyard pushing the HOA limits. She's saying this is the only— you know, make sure you get that one because it's the only one fruiting. Okay, we'll talk about the mulberry and the cherry are pretty too, but yeah, no, I get it, I get it. We want to showcase— we're just so impressed because I think there's like, what, 100 peaches on there? No, we have never— yeah, look, look at all this fruit, guys. And you got many more trees coming. This is just a young orchard. It is. And you got a couple of those struggling, but that's okay. The struggle is real. Or if you're Joel Salatin, world-famous market farmer.
So we put in control and we put in hydration, and that costs on average about $30 an acre.
Wow.
Okay, $30 to put in the whole, you know, the system at $30, and, and, and we, and we double production. The point is, if you can double production for an infrastructure cost of $30 an acre, you've in essence just bought land for $30.
Oh my goodness. What they and us all have in common is that we just plant. So in celebration of what we're all about and being more than halfway done through the tour, we've come out with a new design for our merchandise— our t-shirt, our organic t-shirts, our stainless steel mugs. You guys designed it— the words "Just Plant" with a basil type of looking-ish type of plant inside of a pot. We're putting that logo on the organic shirts, non-GMO Sourced locally out from a company in California. We're doing the drinking safe stainless steel, none other than stainless steel from the crazy stainless steel people, right? Also, we're bringing back the Great American Farm Tour t-shirts and mugs. Plus we're adding black to the equation. You can get a black or white. Same thing with the Just Plant shirt, you can get a black or white. Check it out, I'm leaving a link down in the description. It is for a limited time. It's just so much more streamlined. To sell it all at once for a period of time. We're going to keep the cart open till August 28th, Monday, 10 PM Eastern. We gotta get— we get in all the orders and then we count the orders and then we place our order with the manufacturers of the stainless steel mugs or the t-shirts. And it's about a 4 to 6 week turnaround. Probably not selling these again until towards the end of the tour. We're probably going to be wrapping this up towards January. I shouldn't say probably, that's the goal. We're gonna wrap this up and be home by January and starting back on our homestead. So if you can, now is a really good time. Thank you in advance for your support. This helps us do what we do, and we appreciate and love you so much for that. Thank you very much. Again, more info on that down in the description.
