The Rhodes Family Christmas Special

In this informal, diarized family video, Victor Justin Rhodes hosts a Christmas‑morning gathering on the Rhodes family farm. The clip opens with holiday greetings, then moves into the reality of farm chores even on a holiday—milking cows, dealing with skim milk, and planning hot chocolate. The family discusses a bet about chickens, checks a cow for mastitis, and prepares a Christmas goose with root vegetables cooked in goose fat. Interspersed are moments of the family’s “Boro Hauler” parade, a small farm‑yard celebration featuring a mower, side‑by‑side, and a wreath. The children open handmade gifts—swords, knives, a pillow, a doll bed, a rubber‑band gun—while parents comment on the creativity and the sentimental value of the presents. Throughout, Victor reflects on the farm’s legacy, hoping the next generation will stay, work, and create their own traditions, even as they may eventually live in separate houses. The tone is conversational, warm, and occasionally humorous, capturing a snapshot of rural family life, holiday traditions, and the blend of work and celebration on a working farm.

Merry Christmas! Everybody want to say Merry Christmas?
Merry Christmas!
Hope you guys had a Merry Christmas.
Can I talk to you?
Sure.
Oh, even though it's Christmas, the chores must go on. Normally, to mix it up and have a little fun, we have hot chocolate while we do chores, but yesterday when we Cream separated. Here's the skim from it. You ever wonder what we do with the skim? We didn't save enough milk for our consumption yesterday or today, so no hot chocolate. So what are we gonna do, bro?
Wait until after milking.
That's one solution. I like it. Plus, it's not that cold out here.
Two kids from one dimension.
That's it, that's it. You got the Christmas spirit. That's another thing we do is jam the Christmas music. Just something to make this day different than every other day. Yeah, we got colds.
Woo!
We're at the end of colds. That's where Rebecca is. Bad night with earaches. Christmas Eve. So she's sleeping in a little bit. Are you excited?
Come on!
These are good times. These are happy tears. We're, uh, we're creating memories. This is good. This is a sweet time in my life. I realize that. [LAUGHTER] Oh, so annoying!
[LAUGHTER] Sister.
Got off track so quick and are spreading the dirt everywhere. What happened? We were on track. I realize we won't all be together like this. We encourage them to stay on the farm and work in our business, create their own businesses here as they grow up. There's no, you have to go. We hope all of them stay, but even then they'll like be in separate houses. They'll have their own Christmas morning traditions.
Might be with you. Yeah, that'd be great. Might come and do chores.
That'd be great. I might come to do chores with you.
Could you grab that bucket please? Oh, I'll grab it.
Uh-oh, Jonah, we lost! I know, we done rubbed it in. We bet a chicken wouldn't get in here. The mom said they would, and they didn't for a day, and we thought we were right. We're making a bet. She thinks they're gonna get up there and down in there, and I'm gonna hope they don't. So if I lose the bet I have to put that up by myself tomorrow with Jonah because he thinks he doesn't think they'll get in there either. Oh, oh, look, it got it. It flew up and through here, and now there's evil chicken poo.
Let's clip its wings and then it can't do it.
Yeah, I know, but what are you gonna do, clip all these guys' wings after they give us 5 squats? Oh yeah, she's got some clumps, so we're gonna make sure that's not mastitis. Yeah, yeah, she's not having that one teat. See how the others absorb it? Yeah, that one's not absorbing it. Don't harvest that one. Okay, so I make sure you milk it all the way out.
Okay.
I went ahead and put 30ccs Excel Countdown 2000— 7000. I put it in her food though, and she's not eating it anymore. Let's try to drink her by hand. Hot chocolate's back on the menu, and the only way I found to mix it in real good is— oh no, no, no, you gotta always hold the immersion blender. It's called the immersion blender. Put a bunch of these homemade marshmallows in there. The second annual Boro Hauler parade coming right up. The lineup: the Skag mower, Josiah, Sally's side-by-side, with Mama and Henry. Oh, I like the— I like the wreath. Henry's gonna be the hit. Oh, look at this wreath decoration. You're gonna have to get inside that though. You're gonna be holding the music. And we got the trailer, we got the hayride. You guys get down in there. And you're gonna do the bike ride. And we got Cubbies. You can lead the way because you're probably the slowest. Hopefully this year, unlike last year, there'll actually be an audience because it's warmer, much warmer.
Anybody out there?
I'm just gonna wave in case.
I don't see anybody though.
Another cluster of houses, but I don't see anybody. There was a car! There was a car! Woohoo! We saw somebody! Basically, I do this for me. I'm the only— I think I'm the only one laughing. We've seen a few people. A biker passed us, a car passed us and honked. This is good. Peeling our potatoes on today's episode of Burn It Up Cooking Show, the Christmas goose. Here's the goose. I've rinsed it off. Look, I'm gonna cut the fat off the tail again, and I'm gonna cut up that fat. Kind of just sprinkle them on here. This is the trick right here. The, the root vegetables cooked in the goose fat. Second key beyond the fat, redneck salt for sure.
Is this the next?
Yeah, isn't that great? We put the grate down. Let's put this—
the—
let me wipe my hands.
That's salted down.
You're doing actually a good job. Do a little more over here on this breast. Hour and a half, 375. I guess we're doing something a little different this year. Well, this is no different. Mom and I wrote everybody letters. There's presents under our tree, Becky. I know, and I'm not responsible for any of them. Are you?
I'm not either. They said to us, they were like, we want, we want presents. And I thought about it for like a half a second. I was like, absolutely not, that stresses me out.
Gonna be junk everywhere.
So I said, if you guys want to make presents for each other, you're more than welcome to. And so Justin and I did help them make presents.
Who's that from, Gideon?
Um, Lily.
Okay, rip it open real quick. She made this for you?
Yeah.
Wow. What is that? Gideon Rhodes. Is that a pillow or what?
Yeah, it's supposed to be. I didn't have much stuffing.
I love the towel wrapping. What is it, Josiah?
I can't tell you.
Oh, oh, it's a sword!
It's a big one.
Oh, new Tupperware! Oh, that's cool!
I wanted it.
Wow, who made this one?
Jonah.
Jonah, man, good job! Oh wow.
It's a doll bed.
Oh my word, that's a good gift. Who did that one?
Me. Jonah.
Jonah, good job. Hey Lily, look, you could put this thing you made for Gideon as a mattress.
I can make one for me.
Yeah? Oh yeah, that's true.
A different color though.
All right.
What is it?
Oh yay, it's a sword and a knife.
Sword and a knife kit.
I got you that notebook.
And a dress book.
And I got you— what? How does that get in there?
Mom's socks.
I'm not giving you an allergy pill.
Okay, are these your horses he's giving you?
No, no, they're mine.
All right.
No, they're mine. They were his.
They're his. Okay, one for Mama. Oh, look, Mom, you got me pins. Pins and a dryer ball. One of our dryer balls. Oh look, oh, he got me a lighter. Oh, that's a torch lighter. That's what you wanted, right? Oh look, this, this is— this Jerry bottle's got a spot on it. I like it, it's got some character.
Socks, and then your letter. And wait until you read that.
All right, $5 bill.
And read that letter.
You gotta read it.
Here, just say I I'll play with you for an hour at vacation and I will bring my monster trucks. Love, Gideon.
Oh, a rubber band gun.
I gave it to him because he knows how to fix this.
Okay. We ended up having to put it on a skillet. The vegetables didn't come to heat, but that actually— that might be a win. Got fried it up this way.
Yeah, it's nice.
That's different than that. That's nice.
