these TEXAS BOYS take over Dad’s Farm

In this YouTube episode, host Victor (Speaker A) visits the Texas Boys family homestead. The group—Texas Dad, Texas Mom, their children (including 10‑year‑old Rufus), and the family’s farm animals—give a lively, informal tour of their operations. The walkthrough covers their chicken coop, which features an automatic door designed by Rufus, a $179 greenhouse housing tropical plants like mango, coffee, mulberry, figs, and experiments with compost heating. They showcase a food forest with fruit trees, berries, and swales they built themselves, and discuss managing ducks and fencing. The host observes the cow milking setup, including a custom pallet‑and‑stanchion system, and learns about their daily chores and self‑sufficiency goals. Throughout, the family promotes their YouTube channel, The Texas Boys, and invites viewers to follow their homesteading content. The tone is conversational, enthusiastic, and family‑centric, highlighting DIY ingenuity and a passion for sustainable farming.

Only one sticker left on this sheet. You want the honors, Michael?
That looks awesome.
You're Louisiana, buddy, representing. You represented well. You gonna help? I'm gonna take the picture. You take a picture? Okay.
She wants nothing to do with being in the picture, she wants to take the picture.
Look at that, man. Isn't that something?
Yeah, you got it. You like that? Driving up through here to Dallas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama. Boom!
It was wonderful. You have to come visit us.
Thank you so much.
You need your warm shoes today.
Florida girls, it's hard for me.
She's got Florida on her mind.
Hey man, good to meet you. Y'all are like family. I'm glad y'all came. Yes, happy to meet you. Yes, and I'm looking forward to trying some new ideas. I mean, okay, good. 50 chickens in a chickshaw, and I got this monster out here.
You put 200 birds in that thing.
Journey of a lifetime.
Wow.
Going back into Texas for a little bit. Gonna go towards family in Dallas for Thanksgiving. But on our way, the Texas Boys. Texas Boys, are you ready for us? Oh my word, we have arrived, Texas boys! Look at this, I feel like I'm with a bunch of YouTube stars. The famous Texas Boys. I've been know— I've known y'all for a long time. You've been commenting, you've been producing content, you've been making fun of me and Mr. Mullet.
You look—
you're wearing a kilt! No, this is my work apron. You got a baby on her back!
This is Mr. Bubba, he's my helper. Here we go, Mr. Bubba, here's your Chicken.
You got chickens? No, they're dinos. You from Ireland? No, I'm from down here.
You guys inspired us.
Okay, Texas boys, you ready to give us a tour?
Yep.
Hey, what's your name? Goober. Okay, Goober, what are we going to start with?
We're going to start with, um, feeding— well, yeah, feeding the cow and getting the hay bale into the— hay bales into the rabbit pen because she's gonna destroy them. Come on.
Who's that, honey? Where are we going with her?
Oh, I'm just gonna bring her out of the way so they can get the hay into the rabbit pen.
Come on, come on.
No, ma'am, she wants the hay.
Oh, you're gonna crush me.
Okay.
Back up!
You do not need this, you've already got fed.
Y'all scatter that manure around?
No, the chickens did it.
How'd you get them to do that?
We just got to put some oats on them.
Oh nice, did you learn that trick from ABC Acres? Did you already know that trick?
We already knew it.
What? Next step, greenhouse.
Texas Dad's lab in here.
Ah, Texas Dad's Dad, this looks like the $90 greenhouse.
Is it?
It's the $179 greenhouse.
Where'd you get it?
What's that? Amazon.
How's it holding up for you?
Well, it was holding up great until the, uh, cow pretended to be a goat and charged to the back there, but we were able to, uh, kind of straighten it out. It's a little, uh, it's a little crooked now, but other than that, it's— it survived. So we have all of our tropical stuff going on in here. The tropical— I got mangoes there on the end.
These are mangoes and these are coffee plants. Those are mangoes.
Those both Pete Cass, uh, dwarf coffee plants right there. These are both from Green Dreams Florida. Got a giant mulberry and a Pakistani, I think, over there. I got some isha fig cuttings from Pete. They're going right now.
So this is, uh, you're in zone 8? Yeah, tropical plants are normally in zone 9.
Yep, 9, 10.
But you're gonna push it with this greenhouse?
Yeah, I'm gonna push it with the greenhouse. And then worst case scenario, uh, what we want to experiment with is doing a small compost pile in here to keep it above and I totally think that'll work.
Okay guys, what next?
Um, you want to show them the front food forest? Yeah, sure.
What do you got going here, buddy?
So we have our food tree, uh, fruit trees and Texas Dad knows them all, but we got 3 cherries. Well, yep, yeah, 3 cherries.
Yeah, we got some pears.
We got Warren and Kiefer. We got a couple pomegranates going. We have our berries in the front here. We got goji, elderberry, and, um, we, we had, uh, comfrey, and the comfrey is going to pop back, but we had a bunch of sweet potatoes ground cover, but the, uh The ducks have decided to take care of that.
So what are you gonna do to keep the ducks out?
So we're probably gonna just fence this in.
Okay. And who built these swales?
We did.
Yep, we did.
Yep, we just— who's we? Did you do it? Did you grab a shovel and dig? Yeah. What? Did you grab a shovel and dig? What about Texas Mom? Did she grab a shovel and dig?
Team effort.
I'm impressed. You know when the best time to plant a tree is? Right now. 20 years ago. Yeah, that's true. You know when the second best time is?
Right now.
We planted cilantro and, um, we're like, we need this pot. And it used to have the cilantro seeds that didn't sprout. We dumped them and they all popped up, and then I grew more here, and then we put some more cilantro in there.
Did you find you a buddy?
Don't be shy.
You petting her?
Yeah.
You like Lily petting you?
Are you a nice gentle cow? We're getting one of these, Lily, first week of January, honey. You like that? You gonna pet ours?
Yeah.
Violet?
Yeah.
And that makes me really miss cows, and it makes me really excited to get cows again. Nice homemade coop you got here.
Yep, so we built this all out of whatever was laying around, basically. This was our first— yep, first chicken coop. And then what we did was we experimented, and then we finally figured out what works. So we put— so today we just put in our po— our, um, trees, basically our, um perches.
Nice.
And then we mulched everything, so we cleaned it all out and mulched it real good. And then we got automatic door that opens to the laying area when they start laying again.
There you go.
And, um, it's all Rufus's design. Rufus built all that? Yep, he built the automatic door, he built the frame, came up with the whole entire design.
Who's Rufus? My goodness, how old are you, Rufus?
10.
And you built this whole thing?
Yeah.
What was the number one struggle?
Doing that back because we had to remodel the back.
Ah, that was your biggest difficulty?
Yeah.
How'd it feel when you were done?
Nice. So what we had a problem of is the chickens would sleep on top of the nest boxes and poop. So we came up with this design so in the morning we can open it so they can go in there and lay, and at night we can close it so they can't get in there.
So pulling that again. So you're pulling this little string. Let me go. Let me follow the string. Try to try this with me. Okay, pull the string. The string— you pull on the string, goes up and over to the cage.
Up.
You got it through a carabiner here, and you lift your door. What do you guys say? You say thank you. Oh my, what's this one?
Who's this?
Junior.
That's Junior. I wonder why they call you Junior. What's happening, Junior?
Hey, Junior, you being shy, Junior?
No, this is your kind of place, honey. You're just all up in there. Can we get Mr. Brown one somehow?
Oh, whoa, you can hold him.
So tell me about your YouTube channel. Why do you— what do you make movies on?
Uh, we make movies on homesteading and we, um, are trying to raise everything and we're trying to be more self-sufficient.
Oh, who gave you the idea to start making movies?
Um, you.
Oh my gosh.
Yep.
Okay. And, uh, how do you like it so far?
Really good.
All right, hon, let's go. All right, come on.
There's her hay. And now, um, that's it.
That's all to it.
Yep.
But since, uh, she ran out of, uh, salt, I'm gonna get her some more salt. And she's out of minerals. So we're gonna get her some minerals.
Now she's not in milk right now because she's about to have another baby.
Yep. So she's— but she needs this type of stuff.
Where do you milk her when she's ready?
Um, we have our pallet right here.
Tell me about this pallet, uh, stanchion you got here.
Okay, so we have our bucket and then we raised it up because when it was on the ground she was able to really tip it over. So we put a pallet here with 2 T-posts and we can— when she when we're gonna have to put hay or hay in her feed and her oats, we can just dump it in here and then we can close it up. And then we have a rope here that has a clip, and this clips to her halter so she can't back up. And then I'll take one of those buckets over there, set it down, and milk into a pail.
Wait, so you're— she's lined up about right there?
Yep.
Right there.
Squat down like you would.
I would go like this. This is down here.
Okay.
Yep.
You're the one that milks?
Yep.
You're the one that shoots the movies?
Yep.
And edits? Yep. And you're the one that builds the stuff?
Yeah. Yeah.
And what's Dad doing, sipping tea with Mom?
Yep, pretty much.
You ever get bored milking this cow?
Sometimes.
Laughing. He wants you to tell the truth.
Okay, I'll tell the truth. So when the weather is bad, I do not like milking the cow. I can say that.
How is bad weather? What is bad weather?
Bad weather is probably when it's like pouring down rain and it's— or it's cold.
What's cold for you?
Um, 50, 56.
That's fun. I can hear all the— I can hear all the, uh, northerners laugh. Even the North Carolina hillbillies are laughing a little bit.
That one, she'll eat as much minerals as she needs. So she needs, uh, salt one day, she'll eat enough salt.
These are real farm heroes on the rise right here. Texas Dad, somebody on the live show last night said we need to come up with farm hero action figures. That's right, we're all on there for that.
Yeah, I missed the live, but I watched the replay.
So we gotta have the, uh, If somebody does that, they gotta include the Texas boys. That's right, that's one of those action figures. That's right, you guys are stars in this movement. All right, he's gonna go take care of Honey, get her some minerals. Hey, listen, if people want to see you in action, where do they go?
The Texas Boys, you can find us on YouTube, or you can just go to thetexasboys.com.
These guys are a lot of fun. Yep, I encourage you guys to check them out. More fun tomorrow, right?
Yep.
What are we gonna do in the morning?
Uh, do our morning chores.
Okay, morning chores with the Texas Boys.
Yep.
