Nick moved from Washington to Florida and was told he couldn't garden there. Instead he adapted his basics: used a silage tarp, wood chips, and compost, then flipped his planting schedule to Florida's winter. The lesson: naysayers project their own limits onto you.

They told my friend Nick, you can't grow a garden in Florida coming from Washington State. Now he's got a decision to make: blatantly ignore the comment or tuck his tail in and quit. He heard it, but he applied his foundational concept. After all, it's a drastically different growing zone, but the core of his principles remain the same. He silage tarped the garden, put down the bunch of wood chips. He then topped with a generous layer of compost going from Washington State to Florida. He's flipped the schedule and grew in Florida in the winter. But what would have happened if he would listen to everybody? Nothing. Many folks around us, especially if we're succeeding and driving, are going to hold us back. They might be trying to help us, but more than likely they're giving themselves permission to remain halted behind their excuses. Because if you do it, that means theoretically they could, and they're on the hook now. Don't worry about it. Just do it.
