We got a big problem this morning. Lily hollering at me from her bedroom window. She said the ram and the wither are heading up to the neighbor's property. We gotta get up there. Problem is the ram doesn't know where home is. He just got here. Hey, hey, don't run him into the woods. Whatever we do, don't run him into the woods. We'll lose him if we do that. I don't know why he wants to go to the neighbors so bad. Okay guys, give him some room to go that way. Oh, you want to catch him? You want to catch him? Come up, Jonah, real quick and block that fence. Oh shoot, grab the wither! Grab the wither! Keep running them towards the ladies. Okay, that's actually good because the ram will never— now that they're separated, keep going, John. Keep making sure he gets to the sheep. That's good news. Somehow we were able to separate the wither from the ram. The wither knew about the ladies, he went to them. The Ram will never— being a sheep, will never ultimately run off by himself. Or so I hope. This is a big acreage with lots of woods. Hopefully the boys have eyes on it. They're ahead of me.
Do you guys see him?
No, do not jump on him. Herd him to the other sheep. Apparently they see him in the woods, but he can lose us quickly. Hey, does he know about the other sheep? Yes. How?
Because he was there.
Well, why'd we run him off from there?
Almost got him back into the cage. He was so close.
You'll never herd him back into the cage. So you herded him away from the sheep and tried to herd him back into the cage?
Oh no, we tried to catch him and then he ran away.
All right, well, let's get him in with the ladies. He's not going to breed them in that split second. I can't believe we had him at the ladies and we didn't run him into the ladies.
I didn't think you wanted that.
Oh, okay. Well, you would have run him in and caught him right away. Let's go see what's going on. They're trying to catch him. There's no catching. We have to herd him back to the others. No way! Caught him! Yeah, well, aren't y'all gonna get the Shepherd's Award? You guys don't understand. There's no way you can catch a sheep. You pick him up by his front legs and walk him down, tumulus style. Need a halter. Go get him a halter. Oh, do not drop him! Do not drop him! Do not let him go! Good. Poor Nacho Nuevo. All right, so do you think John and I can pick up the rear end?
No.
You think you two can carry the front and I'll carry the rear end? Good job, guys! Everybody did good catching him. Made the impossible possible.
He just said, I'm not going no more. Anymore.
And he just stopped using his back leg. Keep him in this position. Oh, is his leg up? He's really tired. All right, who's driving us? Yeah, we got it. Let's move him while we're at it. Goodness. Stop by the barn, we'll get his hooves. As if a predator cuddling him is going to give him comfort. I know it's not. We humans, we're funny sometimes. Petting him right now would just make it worse. That'd be like a monster holding you and then petting you.
A lion.
Jumps on you. You want him to pet you? You gonna do it?
Yeah, I did so many sheep yesterday.
We're almost done. We wore him out. Emotional and physical stress. Much better. Let's go. He's starting to get energy. Are you gonna stay all the way in? Yeah, let's get him some water. Apparently they herded the wither into the hay and Caught him. Boys are making liars of me today. He's so light, we'll walk him all the way out, then we don't have to drive in our pasture. Okay, so Josiah, Jonah, and Sam, will you guys carry that sheep? Hey, John's figured it out. You got to get behind him. So good to see these boys problem solving, have fun while doing it. He collapsed. Yep. Look what I got. Oh, carabiner, double safety. You milk her for all she's worth. Yep. Good morning. All right, y'all have fun with your tea time. We're gonna go make more pasture. Did you get everything for me? Yeah, Josiah's my, like, my caddy. Hey, where you going with those clubs, punk?
Mr. Gilmore, I'm your caddy.
Happy day, y'all, and welcome to another day in the life of some shepherds growing our own food and eating what we grow. When you rely more on yourself for food and not so much the grocery store, you can wake up and have to go chase sheep. What does Winnie have? It's a piece of hide. Do you think she buried that for later?
Yeah, it's all dirt and dirty.
Look, acreage, pasture.
That we did not have. We're kind of coming into the home stretch here. I'm gonna go for a tank of gas. I might finish today. That's if I can keep my pants on.
Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground.
That's why we started pushing down trees instead of cutting them down. A lot easier to get the roots out that way.
Done chainsawing up there.
It's hard to keep up with you boys. Let's go fix that water line real quick. No, how? I fixed it. No, come on, Jonah. I hope you didn't mess it up fixing it. Oh no. Oh, oh, I see. Oh, Jonah just had a good point. It's not freezing because it's flowing. Yeah. Oh, y'all have no idea what I'm talking about. I just realized. So you're right, if we shut it off, it's gonna freeze and break. We have a water leak at our gravity-fed water, and it's been running and that's been okay because it doesn't freeze, it's moving, but it's like running into the pasture and it's forming a creek where we don't want a creek. What's your idea?
We just— I fixed the leak, so let's go up to the top of the mountain and hook it, and then in the spring we'll just fix it.
So what we need to do is deter— get the water so it doesn't come down the mountain, it just goes back down into the spring.
Yeah, here's the climb.
Okay, yeah, in a while just come out this one too.
Yeah, to fill up and then come out that, won't it? That means I can't I'm gonna shut it. Why not? Don't break it, it's frozen. Oh look, I need to clean out anyway. That takes some pressure.
There's ice blocking it.
Really?
Yes, it's just freezing more and more.
What is that? All that taking that pipe out is gonna do is not make it fill up as much. We'd have to come put it back in. Look at that! Wow, good job!
Leave that on.
It's not going down the other way now. Why? No, it'll wash this bank out. All right, good job. We got the water where it's supposed to be. You got the sheet back in this morning. You got the water fixed temporarily.
I got another idea.
We have a tank with that— another tank up here from another water source. We never did tap it and use it. I'm gonna bring it down for parts for the cow overflow water. Morning. Morning. How you doing? You gonna get done today?
Yes, sir.
Cannot pick this up. I'm not helping.
It's got a delivery, our 10-foot kitchen table. Hey, come on now. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Be gentle, be gentle. Hey, be careful. This is gonna be a legacy table, I'll tell you what. Charlie, want to come help arrange these stones?
I like water.
One film to having 5 every party. I think that's it. 5 movies each night, about an hour, hour and a half every night. High production. We got long form, maybe vlog style, and then funny. We also want to start off strong each evening, dealing with problems in a unique way. Something ultra creative, out of the box. And then again, an international film, creative, something most of us have probably not ever been exposed to. Just Great filmmaking. I couldn't be more happy with these submissions. I will be attending all 3 days online in the online chat, so you can join online or you can find a host. We have something like 72 hosts across the globe, and you can go and enjoy this in community. Come tell me what you think about the lineup. So the idea is it starts off with high production, out-of-the-box film each day, then you get a serious one, Gardening in a War Zone. I cannot wait to watch this one. And then the end What you just picked up is funny. There's a spoof on making my vlog. This is a spoof on stealing compost. Yes, this is a viewer.
Oh, my dad, but weeks before I was born.
I know. This is gardening with my dad. This is somebody from the audience.
Watch all these over the weekend.
This will be Friday.
We'll watch them. We'll watch as a family Friday and Saturday night. There'll be a live chat. Uh-oh, what happened?
Deflated.
Oh wow, they're really nice Nice and puffy. They're like— they're gonna be fine. Stop it.
Shrink them.
Get the burgers ready. Our favorite night, burger night. She's made some buns. I know, look at them.
And these were the wrinkled.
They got unwrinkly. Those buns look good. What do you think, guys?
It's good.
Good. Mom kill it or what?
She does.
This flossy burger is amazing. I'm getting better every time. Happy day, y'all. Say happy day. Okay. Happy day.
