But Joel Salatin has an Answer" (created 2021-03-08). The excerpt is a promotional/preview clip for Joel Salatin's upcoming course, featuring Joel Salatin speaking and a host/narrator (labeled SPEAKER A). Joel discusses growing desires for independence and self-reliance amid uncertainty, advising listeners to leverage their equity into practical skills, know-how, relationships, and experience, and to take concrete steps (e.g., cut entertainment budgets, start small toward homesteading like buying and cooking eggs). The clip is a short, conversational-style transcript used to promote three free video modules and directs viewers to a link in the description.
A 3-part free video series from Joel Salatin himself.
More and more things in our lives are like out of our control, and that is creating pushback kind of emotionally, intuitively in us to want to get more control of our lives. And we do that with independence, self-reliance, and security. So along with this whole, you know, techno glitzy sophisticated, you know, life that surrounds us all the time, more and more of us are feeling like Well, you know, can I take more of this control back and be more self-reliant and secure in my food, in my energy, in my housing, in my health, in my finances? These are all things that seem to be spinning out of control in a time of disturbance and unknowingness about the future.
Joel then goes into some ideas on how to actually do that.
What we really need to be doing is leveraging our equity into skill, know-how, and relationships. Practical knowledge, knowing how to do things, skill at being able to do those things, and relationships as being non-physical value that's even more valuable than anything else.
Later on in the video, he challenges us by pointing out a different kind of asset.
Just remember that experience is your greatest asset. You're going to be the— you can't Google experience. You have to go through it.
Another great point about that, another bullet point, but just go watch the video to catch that. But then he concludes with a very practical challenge.
If you're thinking this way, well, start living this way. Start cutting the entertainment budget. Start already doing things where you are so that you can start getting this mindset of self-reliance and opting out of the orthodox narrative and reducing your dependency on these other things in your life.
So let's say you're dreaming about growing your own eggs. You know, you're currently eating cereal. Why do we got cereal in there, Beck? You're currently eating— that's a snack for her. But let's say Hey Teddy, really? Let's say you're eating cereal every day for breakfast though. Well, we have our own homegrown eggs, but you don't. Let's say you're just wanting to get into it. You can start by just going and buying eggs and start cooking eggs. Wouldn't that be a really quick way to start the dream? Start the homestead dream? Like you're dreaming of it, just start doing it. Even if it's— even if you don't have chickens yet, just go buy some eggs and start cooking eggs. Just shared with you a minute and a half of this free video, a little glimpse in here of a 6-minute free video. That's just one. There's 3 free videos of Joel— it's Joel Salatin's new course. It's not out yet. It's coming out soon. I think the week after this one, but right now they're giving away 3 little modules for free, and I'm gonna leave the link for that for you down in the description. Enjoy.
