This Calf (actually) Spent the Night with Sheep!

The video is a day‑in‑the‑life vlog of small‑scale farmer Victor (Speaker A) and his crew. The morning begins with a flurry of chores: milking cows, checking a cow for mastitis, moving a calf that spent the night with lambs, handling a moose, and tending to sheep and goats. The team also works on garden tasks, including cleaning raised beds, planting cover crops (winter wheat and peas), and dealing with frost‑damaged sections. Equipment issues arise, such as dead batteries for an energizer and a generator setup. Guest helpers (Caitlin, Alexander, and others) are assigned tasks like fetching nesting boxes and batteries. Throughout the day, Victor performs a mastitis test and treatment, discusses a new product launch called “Permaculture Pigs,” and shares a fire‑cider recipe with Rebecca. Family moments include a visit from Victor’s father (Pop), who reflects on the farm’s legacy and the appeal of their vlogs to older viewers. Casual conversations cover cheese tasting, jewelry, dental appointments, and future plans. The vlog blends practical farm work, product promotion, personal anecdotes, and intergenerational reflections, offering a vivid snapshot of farm life and community.

Pretty much the best cheese. Biodynamic cows, raw cheddar cheese. Bring me an apple for yourself, man.
What?
Bring me an apple.
Oh, don't forget a frozen.
You like big old chunks? You like me to cut the big old chunks in half?
Yeah.
Here you go, Gideon. Jonah, you forgot to get a nesting box. Will you please do that this morning? Two nesting boxes. Hey there. So foggy. I hear a car, can't see a car. Jonah, will you get an extra battery for this? He's on it. He already knew. He already knew I was gonna ask for— We got guests this morning. What are y'all's names? Caitlin. Alexander. Okay, good. This morning we're gonna just do the chores, milk about 8:30, so hopefully we can get done with everything by then. Um, we switched here— well, we switched their coop out yesterday, forgot to put in nesting boxes, so some of them jumped out. And we've got to open this door, so when you go shut that Energizer off, please. If you missed yesterday's vlog, we also cleaned out the raised beds. Good morning to you too, buddy. And we put in, uh, cover crop seeds— winter wheat and winter peas. We wanted a coop a hair different than Jonah's micro shaw so that Donald could get in there. He liked it. So we put the water on that big pallet, and that helps them shake off a lot of dirt. Manure before they get to it. And that, that was a lot cleaner. Huge pile to work through. It's half red, half green. It's half— the batteries are half dead. We need two, please. You go get another one. Let's test it. Should be blinking all green. Yay! Good move. Yesterday we got one garden completely closed off. That means half our gardens are shut down. We need 4 more shut down. Swiss chard in here, see, hidden in there. This is taking the brunt of the frost, the lamb's quarter. There's Henry. I'm trying to look over at the sheep to make sure the cows didn't knock over the fence and let moose out or the sheep out. See sheep in their fence, can barely see it. We'll get a closer look in just one second. Yeah, giving them a little hay. Just in case. They have plenty of greens today though. That hay's probably a waste, but I guess they do like it. It's more, uh, I don't know, less protein. Had to come in for a second. We've got an electrician here, different lines for all our freezers and fridges, whole different line for our cool room, and talking about a generator. Because when your years of hard work is stored in these little magical boxes, you don't want nothing to go wrong. Good morning, Aunt Flossie. Hopefully Aunt Phyllis is okay. Yesterday, Stud Muffin was a little rough with her. He's trying. Shoot. Oh no, that knocked her over. I don't see her. They're usually together. Okay, I think they're here in the lane. So worried. Okay, she's standing. That's so good. Did it happen last night, Stud? Come on, let's go back. I don't really want to take you unless I have to. Oh, look, Moose stayed in His pen. Oh, it didn't happen last night. Okay. All right, we're gonna take you both then. Okay. Seems like he's calmed down a bit. Maybe it's over. Hopefully it happened last night. He's still wanting to be with her though, so— oh yeah, he ain't going without her. She's not limping or anything. That's real good. Okay, so she's— we're trying something different. Yesterday we put the, uh, Moose, her calf, with the lambs last night so her milk builds up. We didn't put him in the stall. It was so much easier and it worked. He's still out there. We're gonna leave him out there for the milking, but she's not liking the change.
Come on. Hey, come on. Hey, hey, hey.
Well, they both went in the stall with some hay.
All right, uh, just let's just see if we can see anything.
Oh yeah, I'll be able to fill it up, no problem. So we're gonna fill this up. This is a mastitis test. We did it 2 days ago and it It looked a little funny. Yeah, now unfortunately I didn't catch it at the beginning, so it's gonna be creamier. It's better. Do you want me to do one more treatment?
Yeah, I mean, we're gonna do it right now, but I think that it's okay actually. It doesn't look—
does it call for two treatments?
It does. Okay, it calls for what we did.
It calls for Grandpa's old hobbles.
Hey girl, we're gonna give you an alfalfa pellet. We learned our lesson last time. Are we gonna hold the tail up or— oh, let me give her—
Alex, grab the tail and lift it up in the air. She's less likely to kick all the way up. Yeah, you got her some feed.
Oh, that's in there with her.
Yes. Oh, come on, good girl. Thank you, Miss Thang. Almost— wow, it's a gallon and three-quarters maybe. So how was it, Moose? I see he stayed in there. That's good. Turn this fence off. Let's get him out. You ready to go to Mom? Here. Now you got to go to Mom. She doesn't need to come to you, okay? You go to Mom. Go ahead, go ahead. Good, good deal. All right, got a little time before breakfast. I need to crunch on video editing. Got a dentist appointment today. Gonna work on Permaculture Pigs, getting more stuff out. Guys, that is launched! That launched, that launched today, which for you it would have been launched 2 o'clock dentist appointment. For you guys, have been launched 2 days now by the time you're seeing this. Hey Rebecca, want to take a shot? Oh, Fire cider? It grows limbs, you know.

That's my birthstone.
Which is your favorite one?
This one, because it's my birthstone.
Okay, you guys not into it?
No.
What's the matter? You don't want any jewelry? Girls. Oh, it is?
Well, unless when a boy buys a wedding ring, I guess. Oh, only one boy for me.
Yeah, he's having a good time.
He said jewelry robber.
He's a jewelry robber. Are you robbing?
Don't!
Went to the dentist. That was okay. Whoever gets excited about going to the dentist? Well, we thought we'd visit my dad on the way home. See, you got your mug going, Pop. Yep, as a gift from your fans.
It's the only thing you'll use, huh?
You got a pocket knife too now.
Oh, it's beautiful. Beautiful.
Don't cut yourself.
That pocket knife, I bet that guy paid $100. Yeah, for that knife.
It's nice. Did you open all your letters yet?

I refer them, and they do watch. Usually if they watch one, they want to watch the other one.
See what happens What's next? Why do you think people like it so much?
I think it takes people back, older people in particular, yeah, to their dreams, or maybe their former life. It takes one back, and for a few years And you guys, what more beautiful way of life is there?
Yeah.
I mean, when you see the way you guys live and those little children respect them, even the visiting children, they get that experience. It's rare, but it's so healthy. It's so good.
Yeah.
Like I told her, this is the way that what he knows. Yeah. Back here, back here.
And people watch those children with a big smile on their face working.
I mean, really.
Yeah.
You know, you don't see too many children working with a smile on their face at any age.
Yeah, they love to work.
They do, they love it.
They do. As they eat their greens at the table, they grab the stuff up here. Old touch. Yeah. So anyway, thank you guys.
Yes, sir.
For getting us started. I guess, thank you to my dad. He had a beautiful place, and I know I said to you a long time ago, he was always proud to say we, we grew everything on this.

We're proud to say it too, about every meal.

Yeah. All right, well, time to do afternoon chores. The visit to my dad, let's see, he's not doing as good as he has been the last few visits. As you could saw, you know, speech has slowed down a little bit. Still legible. That's ironic. Still legible. What am I trying to say? Anyway, so Pop still has his wits about him. It was good to see both my brothers there at the same time, so all the, all the sons were in the room with him. Does it matter?
They're both—
