This is Embarrassing

We got our chicks out. More on that in yesterday's show where I did a teaching, uh, Chickens 101, getting started, getting them in a small run in your yard. I encourage you to check that out if you didn't. Gonna get an extra show this week. That was just a bonus. So now we're gonna do the vlog. Barn's looking good. Jonah's got something he wants to show me. Oh, did you replace all the broken bulbs?
No, not yet.
It looks so good. Yeah, we just got to get the bulbs fixed. Man, the flags look great. The lights look good. We're having chandelier, farm-style chandeliers coming in.
Those are probably going to be put in today.
Yeah. Come on, Johnna, let's do the sea monsters. I hear Rosie squawking. Hopefully she's guarding against the crows. Here, let's fix this now. This is our scrap bucket and the handle's falling off. We've only got about 20 minutes. I thought we had a little more time than that till milking time. So both handles have fallen off now, huh? Well, we're going to try to use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. Yeah, that won't quite do it. That's a drill bit. A rubber mallet would do good because it wouldn't destroy anything, but it would create a force. Let's do 1% change every day. I do not have time, but I have time for 1%. That's what's cool about it. Want to get more organized? I mean, this is not a terrible place for umbrellas. Just do one shelf. This is an easy shelf. Don't know if we need these lids anymore. Put them in the recycle. Uh, let's put these umbrellas in a better place. This one in the door. I know that's not where this goes. That's another thing. We're gonna pick up the umbrella. Well, We got two hands, we can pick up stuff along the way. Everything has a place, everything in its place. Sneak this knife back in. Hey, Mr. Brown, let's go! We're gonna do your sea monsters, let's go!
My Jeep doesn't work.
That's okay, I'll help you. Come on, we'll do the, uh, Henry. Come on, Jonah, Josiah, come on. He says his Jeep doesn't work. What's wrong with it? Okay, well, I've ordered you a new battery. He's totally worn out that battery, but you kind of need two, one charging, one being used. See, pick this up. These clamps up as I come down. Lily, did we spill some scraps? Oh yeah, can we kick that off in the grass? So if I look at this floor, all those shelves out there, I get overwhelmed. My porch— oh, you got a rubber mallet. This is ridiculous. I can't believe I'm showing this. I feel emboldened because I visited you guys at Homesteaders of America. All y'all admit to having some junk, having some disorganization, and in a way, in some way It encourages you. I imagine that's because, you know, we've been homesteading a long time. We got a really nice homestead. We're growing most of our own food. But even I, the apron-wearing permaculture chicken ninja master, struggles with the balance of keeping it organized and getting stuff done. I need 2 buckets of starter feed, please. And Henry, I like the bucket. I like the helmet or bucket head. I like that. I like the bucket heads. Let's give this a try. Oh no, that went right in. That's not good. If it goes right in, it's going to go right out. This one, not so much. Let's do it first. Finally got that. Boy, I didn't think I would maybe do that. All right, let's put the mallet up. Hey kids, I don't think they got me the feed. Come here now, come on! Josiah went to get us another bucket. I got all the kids here, uh, including Henry. I've got 5. I could do the count and I could do it on one for every finger. And he's in a good mood. Oh yeah, he's getting easier and easier every day, isn't he, Mom?
He's such a happy baby. Easy baby too.
Who's that? Is that Rosie? No, Rosie's up with the chickens. That's the pasture posse goose. Yeah, shoot, they need mowed too. Oh man, it's already past time to milk. Randolph's here wrapping it up, the people barn. All right, let's, uh Let's move them. I don't think any crows. I think Rosie has solved our problem. That was like one of the easiest moves ever. They went right over. We did put both geese in here so we can easily capture it. Mr. Henry's coming about. Did you see the— did you see the chicks, Farmer Henry? You'll be toddling about here this time next year, stumbling up and down this hill. Looks like he wanted to do it now if he could.
I think so.
Got the sea monsters eating. Everybody's happy. We put that rail up. The plastic piece broke at the end. Jonah, can you fix that? Because they're out of stock on those. Yeah, do a screw maybe. Yeah, through the handle. If he doesn't screw through the handle to the— that we don't really need it to spin. Are you chasing the other goose? Yeah, she go under. There she is! There she is! Yeah, no, no, don't be scared. She won't hurt you. All right, come on. Are you scared? All right, could somebody get the vlogger legs up there? Get you back to your pot. What in the— oh my God, giraffe! Goodness, she's really bellowing. This didn't get pulled in. Away enough. We're supposed to go into the middle and then the chickens aren't as bad to push through the fence. You can only move this so far too. The chickens, they're not the smartest, will not find it and go up. They're more— more have a feeling orientation, I guess. Oh, are they starting to scratch manure? They are. We got more chickens in here last night. We got some from the breakfast posse. Roll that footage, Dan. A rare event. We're going to show you putting up the chickens. Actually, there's only a few left to go in. Let's put it on time-lapse. The boys are playing around. Hey, get off the coop, man. You're scaring them out. Really? Really? Come on, come on. Don't get on the coop. Cow bellowing. Something's wrong. It's like hungry, or, you know, it could be excited because we're here, but it's a little extra today. It looks like they've eaten this paddock bare, so Jonah's getting them some bramble. Arun's gonna go back and get some hay. Jonah, if you see any poplar, they really love that. Good morning, how are you? You doing okay? You doing okay? Hey, Belle. Nice. Thank you, guys. Did we find any maple? Yep. I mean, not maple. I don't know if they'll like maple. I meant to say, um, poplar. Well, they love this, whatever it is.
They like maple. Maple likes maple.
Oh, does she? Oh, that's neat. Mineral rich because those roots are digging deep, bringing up minerals. Oh, they love that oak. You like pine? Uh, they might like pine. No, they're eating some of that. Boy, they like everything. Stubb Muffin, you're looking super good.
Oh, he's—
well, don't we move him? Oh, he's thinking he's getting moved. Is the other net set up, Arun? Oh good. Look at this, you look so good. You've lost your winter coat. Getting him over to his new grass. Plenty. Oh yeah, that's a good sign. When they start eating first step in, that's a good sign. Oh, Flossie's trying to get some of that. Well, we got to milk you first, honey. We are back from the doctor this afternoon. Our shipment of our plants came. Why is this not working? Can somebody help me? Put it on this. This, this thing is probably jacked. Let's screw this thing on there and then maybe we'll get more leverage. Oh yeah, I really like this bug net. Is that bug netting or is that to keep the, the plants kind of in place as it ships? I don't know, it might serve as a bug netting. It's probably to keep the, the foliage in place, although the cucumbers didn't have it. I told you guys I would do anything to heal, so Amy's here, she wants to see my back, so might as well show y'all. You want to hold the camera?
Oh, pokeys. Polka dots. It's like wrapping paper. Wow, look how red this one is.
I know.
She said the deeper purple means that just— More blood. Yeah. Well, no blisters this time. No blisters. And she did his belly too.
You like the polka dots?
Henry's even looking.
Look at him. You like that? Do you like that? You like everything. Cooking with Arun Kumar tonight. Oh, different kind of rice. Yeah, you asked at the last table, I don't make fried rice, so I said here we go. Well, yeah, yeah, I was gonna say chicken for me. No, it's more in there. Your chicken is right here. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Uh, raita and raw veggies. Can you eat all that? Yeah, that's a huge pile. How's the kids' table? The cool table. Everybody's enjoying it. Mama's plate, a little raita on my chicken, cucumber and yogurt. That's really good. Really good on that.
