What is this? A tea party with Mama's old doji steady teddy bear. Y'all have fun. Happy day. Isn't it good to be home? So nice to be home. I love this ground. I love this ground. The beautiful one, uh, made us watch Gone with the Wind this last weekend. I watched this so you don't have to. Roll the part about the land where her dad and Scarlett are talking. White land is the only thing in the world worth working for. Worth fighting for, worth dying for, because it's the only thing that lasts. And at the very end of the movie, when Scarlett the star had lost her daughter and lost the love of her life, her husband, her dad, everything, and she realized she still had the land, and that's all that lasts. That's the only thing that matters. It's the only thing that lasts unless a hurricane comes and, and literally takes away tons of it. But I'll confess, do y'all ever— well, I was anxious being away. After about 5 days, I didn't want to go anywhere right after the hurricane, you know, um, anywhere. Like, not even off the farm. And then here we were going states away. Sure, it'd been months later, but I was anxious just not being here. It feels vulnerable. But I'm standing where water had been. We shouldn't have been, but was. We're already starting to haul material and already starting to make improvements, so that's encouraging. Before we get too far, we got to replace these gutter pipes. And run them down to the creek. Here's 24 where I think we're lined up and can probably— actually, you can probably go right through that hole right there. 24 plus 8. You think you'll ever see another storm like this? This morning I heard the birds I heard like the spring birds. Austin, cue some spring bird sounds. No, that's too intense. Just a little bit. Just a little bit. Like, not that crow. That's better, Austin. You nailed it there. Do it again, Austin. Hope. That's hope. Anyway, we're measuring those pipes so that we can replace them. They're gutter pipes. There's a pipe that this drains. That's probably that one. I dare not not cover them and it'd be impossible to dig it again. So that's one of the things on our list to restoring this land is getting those pipes so that Josiah can finish filling in that cliff. Done a good job, buddy. You got 10 babies in here. 10! That's more than we've ever had, buddy. Moms are still coming. Fluffy's had her babies. Those two right there haven't had them. We only lack two. It's gotta stay on. The problem is I can't put that lid down because we have the electrical cord coming up and through. When that lid falls off, the chickens perch up there and poop in their own water. They got no delayed gratification. Zero. This ground is bare. There will be a garden. I'm using the chickens with a light layer of deep bedding, light layer wood chips to build soil. But folks, suppose you had sod and you didn't have a machine, or you don't want to use a machine, but you did have chickens. I can teach you how to use chickens to build a garden. I think 2025 is going to be the year of the chicken, probably because of the egg shortages and the, the The bird food. There's this many eggs times 2 in the other one. Don't get me wrong, eggs are very nice, but this is going to be the year of the chicken. Let's get more for the decade. I mean, let's not just use them as a rescue to get ourselves less expensive eggs and healthier eggs. Let's put them to work. They're ferocious workers. They love to work. Just that manure— they, they work at night. I mean, they poop half their load at night. And since we catch it on this deep bedding and then they stir it in, this is gradually becoming soil. Let's start with a teaching. I'm in the Seed Time Summit coming up. I'm going to teach you guys the miracle, what I call the chicken garden miracle— how to use chickens to help you build a garden. I declare this year the year of the chicken. Is it every year? Touché, touché. Look who's asking for the Ergo. You wanna ride the Ergo? You got to know how to do it. Come on, you wanna go to Lowe's with me later today? Now? Now? Yeah, I'm not getting you toys there though. I wanna get a toy for my birthday at Lowe's. Okay, your birthday's in almost a month. Get those toys and wrap the toys up. The toys from Lowe's. Wrap them up, huh? Now I got something you're gonna like even better. What is going on in here? I'm just cleaning it. All right, you want to come help us move, make a new fence for Blaze and the youth group? Sure. We've got about an hour-ish until we need to leave. Let's go improve some land. Youth group right there. Another— this is area we cleared. 2 years ago from, from forest to pasture, and we've had to finish grade on it. The grader scraped off the topsoil with bulldozer, and I'm going— oh, it's so— so it's gonna be okay. Uh, we can hay bomb that. Hurricane demolished these fences. Let's pick up what— save what we can and set them up a new paddock. Oh boy, we got just a little bit left. I guess that was a 25-footer Jonah had. Quite a bit of overlap, but they don't make 10-foot nets. We're not going to move them today because, well, we just fed them hay on that hay bale. Let them finish that up and we'll move them tomorrow. Gave them access to the little creek in case we don't get the Everflow water going. We have the original Everflow water going. What have you guys gotten into? You can get up but can't get down, huh? What happened, Henry? Are y'all rough and tumble? I was gonna take the truck— I was gonna take the computer in for repair and go to Lowe's and get the PVC. No straps, so we're back on schedule. Some grocery shopping to do and We found some used desks for our office. I'm finally gonna get my office in order. But then we realized, oh, we have some stuff from the cabin remodel that needs to go to the dump. Hey, how many straps you got? Two. Okay, this makes sense that they all go— knock it all out at once. Hey, here's a couple more straps, another yellow strap. They may be able to go to Lowe's. I'm gonna go to Lowe's because There's like two different sizes of 4-inch pipe. Somebody tell me what that's about. Been on here a while, not fine, and not having any luck like finding the 20-foot PVCs. And I want to make sure I get the right size. Yeah, yeah, I've got to go because Josiah is already getting above where we need to be for running these pipes. I'm excited for this, and it's not really taking too terribly long. I mean, he's probably done 2.5, 3 feet in 2 days. Probably 50 feet worth of ground, and it just gets easier as it gets more narrow at the end. Okay. There's just not 20-footers, and that's okay because I'm not going to take a 20-footer home. Here's a 4-inch coupler. It doesn't fit. 4-inch pipe, 4-inch pipe. Coupler works on that. I think ours is that. It's thicker. Take a picture. Yeah, it is thicker like that one, so we got to find an adapter for that one. Wow, that's it. No, here's some cheaper ones. Okay. Uh-oh, they're out. They're out of the 2-inch. We have 3 4-inch pipes and 2— or 1 2-inch pipe. Who knew the Suburban could hold 10-foot sticks of PVC? I don't know what my plan was. I guess I was gonna hang them out this back window. I think I'll be able to shut the— there, we're gonna shut. Wow, it's gonna be a tight squeeze. I've done crazier things. Had pigs in a minivan on top of a U-Haul. Check on these guys. They're all good. And even though it said online they have it, they don't have it. Called the local hardware store and they said they have it. I believe them. I'm on my way. I have a 20-foot piece. They're going to cut it in half because, well, it's the only way I can get it home. Well, they had it. They cut it in half for me. Now, I didn't measure that one, so I am hoping it is actually a 2-inch PVC and not an inch and a half or something. It's the same. Let's see if it's the right size coming out. That's it, that's it! We did it! All right, we did it! Call the Inquirer. We're doing a plumbing project and only one trip into town. Well, I haven't quite began yet, have I? But I think we got it. Back at home, a little experiment. Our uncured bacon— the butcher did cut it thinner, which we like. I put paprika, garlic, one side with Redmond's smoked salt and the other side with liquid salt or liquid smoke. I think we have a family— new family favorite, and it's farm friendly, meaning we can grow this ourselves. And welcome to the Burn It Up Cooking Show. We're making burgers and tomato sauce bacon cheeseburgers. How are your whoopie pies coming, girl? Good, I'm just working on the frosting. Fries going. Learned this trick from Darcy when we were in Florida, just frying burgers in tomato sauce. Spectacular. We're putting it on the meat, putting a little bit of cheese on top. These are a little undercooked because they're going to go in the oven a little bit to melt that cheese. Oh my gosh, yeah. Papa made some bacon, huh? I'll bring home the bacon. I must say, this is a good one. This is a good one. And we have whoopie pies too. Whoopie pies. Meanwhile, you gotta see what this beautiful one's been up to. We got something. Why are you grinning like that? It's a low budget till we, till we knock a dent out of this debt. Then we're going high budget, so you gotta better get prepared. She's gonna get me. We were low budget for this house, right? You gave me 5-year warning. I did. I told you in 2018. You never threw out any numbers. You should see this place. Double and a half? No. We also changed some things. Like, we were just gonna do— we were just gonna remodel like half the house, and then we like blew off the roof. Hey, you know what? This is a legacy house, honey. This is well worth it. We'll enjoy it forever. Come on in, it's time to eat. You know Henry likes it. You even eat cheese on a burger when it's fried in tomato sauce. Yeah, what gives? I don't know. We got all our supplies. Hopefully we're gonna get that put in tomorrow, right? Yeah, get the bank bill back. We're getting the bank bill back, big daddy. Yeah, your bridge is coming soon thereafter. Happy day.
