This Souped Up Cow Fence Makes All the Difference

In this informal farm vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes and his family/crew walk viewers through a full day of farm chores and projects. The video opens with a discussion about the benefits of cold‑water immersion, followed by plans to film an uncut milking session for a future upload. The group then showcases the installation of a reinforced, "souped‑up" cow fence built by Randall, highlighting the materials and design choices. Throughout the day they also prepare a chocolate‑coconut‑cashew crust, unpack a biodegradable transplant block from Johnny Seed, and discuss its potential to simplify soil‑block planting. The vlog captures compost management involving pigs, chickens, and a large garden bed, as well as plans for future garden beds, silage tarps, and permaculture training. Interspersed are casual family interactions, channel growth updates (100 subscribers, upcoming video releases), and logistical coordination of chores. The overall tone is conversational, instructional, and enthusiastic, offering a behind‑the‑scenes look at small‑scale sustainable farming practices.

We're gonna do from here to here. Yeah, yeah, we'll keep that a gate. What, uh, we're gonna put a gate across over there, and then what should we do right here, I wonder? I just thought of that.
I think he's gonna put a gate there, wouldn't he?
Right here. Oh, that's right, we're gonna do a gate from here to there, and that way we can get in here and clean that out. You're right. Yeah, so is there— I've heard there's a benefit of staying in the water for 3 minutes.
Is that true? I think it's the full benefits. I think you get benefit from still doing this, but I'm wondering if it's like— because like it's cold going down there, and then you're down there, and then you're walking back, it's cold. Like, does it have to be in the water for 3 minutes, or do you just have to be cold for 3 minutes? Like, I don't know.
I think there's definitely benefit when you get in, you have that sudden breathing. That's you getting oxygenated. There's benefit in that. Okay, but we can stay in 3 minutes. We've done it before.
I don't know, it benefits me. Does that count? I mean, just because science—
yeah, because you feel better, right? I feel great on just jumping in and out.
Don't even think about it till you get there. That's what I'm doing.
We are starting the vlog late. We, we filmed a very special movie this morning. Very special. It's going to be either the most boring video I've ever put out are the most interesting because it'll be interesting. You think so? Because we filmed the entire milking process, no cuts. The only time we cut is when the card filled up. I think it happened twice, like the card can't keep up with the camera. So there's only going to be like 3 cuts in it. Art followed me along from Art and Bree, and it is literally going to be like an hour and a half.
Oh wow.
From like—
I don't know if I could watch it. No, but you know who could probably watch it?
People who want to get into milking cows.
Well, and your children. Yeah, if you wanted a wholesome show for them to watch while you like do something by yourself, yeah, throw that bad boy on.
That's true. There'll be no music, just the cuts where the card came out. That's coming up what, Saturday? Let's put it up Saturday, Rebecca. Saturday evening, good movie for you guys to hang out and watch. Grab the family and watch it. Okay, you guys ready to do this?
Oh my gosh, 3 minutes.
Oh, you okay?
Yeah.
Woo! That'll numb you. Today's the day to stay in.
Holy cow, how cold it is.
Are you going in, Beck?
I am.
I'm giving Bree a break.
I don't think I can go under today.
Okay, don't go under, just sit. You had an 11-pound baby. You can do this. You got this, girl!
I don't know how you stay in this.
Every day you say you don't, can't do it, and then you do it.
Well, that's how I just go. I'm trying to stay in longer today.
Different goals.
I'm staying in! I'm doing it!
She ends up doing it. Not only do you stay in a minute, you went under.
I did it!
Boom! You hanging out for a while?
Yeah, I'm gonna try. I'm not gonna dunk.
My hair is actually clean.
That's why I am dunking.
I think the socks are helping.
Yeah, it helps to have something on your feet.
Where are we in this process, darling?
I made the crust. There it is.
Okay, what'd you make the crust out of?
It's, um, it's the recipe. We'll leave the recipe in the description. This is Gap.
I know, and it's so good. I think a normal person would like this also.
Yes. This baker's chocolate and coconut oil. I got my cashews that are soaked.
I'm just— then dehydrated? No, just soaked.
Okay, you want them wet?
Come on, Josiah. I mean, not Josiah. Come on, get in.
I'm gonna be like, Josiah's here, babe.
All right, look what it is, guys. It's our butter. Can you say I want waffles. Look who's here! You guys remember? It's Randall. He's working on our fence down here at our stanchion. Oh my gosh, he's already got it up! Oh wow, look at this! Oh, what do you think of that, man? It's looking good. Whoa, no more fooling around right there, huh?
Yep, I believe that'll do it.
That'll do it. Is this your first— what would you call this, fortified cow fence?
I guess a souped-up cow fence.
Yeah, good job.
Souped-up cow panel.
And that is awesome. Randolph's working on that, guys. I couldn't do what I do without hiring folks like Randolph. Be here and editing. He's getting the fence done, uh, creating a job for him, getting content for you guys. Let's get Sally over here and load them up. Bring, bring me here. So, so Gideon's writing Mommy. Okay, yeah, that's right. How'd you know to put it right there?
I put it there.
Thank you, Lily. Well, while I've been editing, well, we're testing a live. Got more on that soon. Hopefully this is gonna work. Gonna do a little special permaculture training. Uh, I'm gonna offer it to you guys. More on that soon. Randolph's here, he says he's done. Let's go check it out.
You know, like wrap it around and staple the plywood onto it.
You got him another job?
Yeah, wherever.
Which, which one's this? How big of a coffee does he need?
He needs an extra extra large.
I had 3, 4.
I got her.
Okay, he was ready. So tell him what you wanted to do in here. I think I know what you're talking about.
Put it on the ceiling.
Okay, that's a first for you, right, Randolph?
Yeah, in the middle the map will come down so that it's flat.
Oh, I see what you're saying. Yeah. You ready for afternoon chores?
Yeah.
You guys ready for this? Oh, the Rhodes Bros have cut their hair! Hey, some people have found your channel, by the way. You have like 100 subscribers. Wow! Whoa. So, uh, and like 100 views on your first video. When are we gonna get the other 2 videos up so I can publish this? So, you know, so people are managing to find it. But I'm gonna share with you guys. Not now, we gotta do chores. Come on, where you been? Right up. Okay. All right, explain it to the fans. Could we explain it to the fans?
What?
You've been playing?
Yes, we've been playing.
And that you're sorry. You've had, you've had other priorities. Oh my word. He's still after her. Oh, oh, hey, we got our Johnny Seed order. What is this? Oh, this is gonna be it. Could possibly be a game changer. Biodegradable transplant block. Of course it's not plastic. We've been doing soil blocks for years, but they're a bit of a pain. We could just plop soil in that. Anything to make it more easy and efficient. Fun. It's a good thing. What is this? It's long. You guys like me opening packages? Do you guys like this? Because I do this a lot and then I just end up cutting it. I don't feel like it's interesting. Oh, I know what this is! Oh yeah! Oh my gosh, really? I like that holder. Hey Jonah! Can you guys go start?
Let's go!
Oh my word. Hey, where's the sword we made you?
Oh, it's inside.
All right.
Oh, look what I found!
What are you guys up to? Right with the shoes on backwards, or his legs on wrong? Which one? I think this is right. Saying about 50. Uh, Mom's not a fan, honey. How are you guys doing? This is where we had the pigs. And hey, look, our old one— our old one's reading like 30. So we're gonna put the chickens in here to help turn this huge compost pile. I'm kind of curious if you heat it up. We watered it, we added manure, we piled it up. What do you guys think? No, nada. I mean, it did ignite when the pigs were on it, so I don't know if we'll be able to ignite it again. If we get more manure in here, chickens on it, manuring, turning it, we'll get this breaking down. It's not really heating up, maybe 10 degrees. Before we put the chickens in there, look, we finished this bed yesterday. This is 21 feet by 50. We did want it. It took us about, I don't know, 45-ish minutes in total. We got to do this bed, and then our silage tarps will be here soon. We'll cover them. We'll get the chickens out of here, put them around the whole pig port— be a chicken port, I guess— to work that compost in a compost corner type thing. Where to? And then we'll work this garden bed. All right, let's check out Randy Alves' Good job! Holy smokes, that's legit, isn't it?
Woo!
Looks good. Outside look, man, it's sharp. You want to see the fence?
Yeah. Oh wow, I like this. This is really nice.
For real, huh? Yeah. Doesn't this look more like the organic farm that we are?
Yes, it does. We should still probably put some sort of like Lash.
I think we should have a hook here for this. Yeah, let's put a hook in here. Let's do this too, where they kind of hang these things.
Yeah, this is so nice though. Wow, he did a good job.
What would we do to this, paint it or just leave it?
I think we just need to leave it wood. Okay, I mean, maybe stain it. Okay, if we do a— if we do a stain, if we do a wood stain siding for us, if we do a— because I want to do Hardy Board, but you can get it in a brown stain color. Okay, then we could get a the same stain color for—
I'm encouraged. You know, I can finally set my camera up on something right here. Look at that. My favorite narration shot right here. Oh yeah, that looks good. Do something like that and you'll see the cow munching while I'm telling the story. You driving?
I'll drive.
Hey, you guys already moved the sheep? Great job, excellent. Am I handing stuff to you, honey?
Yeah, I was just gonna see what I needed.
Are you still having the diarrhea? Yeah.
Okay, the piece came off.
Hmm, okay, I'll come look at it. Okay, what happened down here?
Uh, I hit it and the piece fell off.
Who knew that could even happen?
I don't know. Okay, still works.
Okay, well, use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without. Okay, give me a second, I'll spread it for you, buddy. You going with Wilder?
Say, can I ride? Can I ride? He asked Miss Rebecca.
Of course.
Hey, Mandy!
He gave me a kiss goodbye.
Oh, you gave her a kiss goodbye right here?
He went I'll ride here.
Rebecca will ride with you. Those little boots.
I know, it's too cute.
Bye-bye, buddy. It was fun working with you for 10 minutes. All right, kids are gonna get the pigs. We're gonna get the garden. It might be a little tricky, okay? We got to do a little bit of planning. We established a post here for this garden bed. 4 corners. So I'm thinking to get our next garden bed, we need to build off of this string to keep a straight line. Okay, Rebecca? Yeah, we'll tie it here. Uh, yes, it's here. See how that's about perfect? Yeah, about right there. See?
All right, well, come get me when you're done. Because I'm gonna get some computer work done.
Oh, okay. So it's gonna take you— you— I'll get done marking everything. I'll come get you when it's ready to dig and broadfork.
Yeah.
Okay.
Um, well, no, I'll help you do the other thing too.
All right, now to find some wood for some stakes. That'll make 4. I don't think Rebecca realizes how fast this is gonna be. It's not gonna take long at all. Hey Rebecca, measure me from the middle of that 2 feet. That'll be this corner. Okay, you got it. Do the other side. Hey, bring a hammer and a stake, please. We have to measure now from here to there and make sure we put it at 50 feet. I bet it is because that— we went in line with that other line, Rebecca.
You grab a shovel, I'll grab the broadfork.
