Happy day! We got two feet on the ground, we got chickens in the pen. I've been remembering to turn the nest boxes over. I thought I'd been remembering. See, perch in the nest box and poop on the eggs. I'm trying to have mercy on myself, given that we've been displaced from where we were staying while we remodel to the tiny 100-year-old farmhouse that was my studio and that was the milk parlor. You expecting me, ladies? See, it's gonna come out. Chicken in there. Broody chicken. I've never seen anything like that. Green egg inside of a brown egg. Wow. Beauty's gotta go to Lowe's to shop for— not to remodel. She's got to do that too, but for to better our living situation in the tiny farmhouse. I think I can get her to vlog.
I can't.
What are you up to this morning?
I'm going to Lowe's to buy some things. We need a light in here. We need various things for this house, so I have my list.
You're shopping to Heil too? I am for the remodel. How are you holding it together during this time? I'm gonna put together a remodel, having to put together Another remodel on top of that. The new house that we're living in too? Oh yeah, and a remodel of the cabin?
No, we're gonna remodel the cabin. I'm just doing one moment at a time.
The place we were getting tile that we ordered tile back in February?
No, first week of March.
We just found it's not coming.
No, they're like, not— I ordered it the first week of March and they're like, they said it takes 2 weeks for it to ship. So I called and they're like, well, we can't guarantee that. And I'm like, What? And so now they're like, it will not ship for another 10 days.
The tile guy's coming this week, so yeah, I can't have that. And good news, we have a sample of our flooring. This is poplar wood.
No, it's maple.
Maple wood. Fact check. Fact checker.
I'm just very light clear coat on it. I'm not staining it or anything.
That's nice. What's wrong? I need you to watch him. Look, Gideon left him. Don't take your shoes off. There we go. You want to move Mom's car?
Yeah. Oh, awesome.
These are what? He's saying these are frozen. What are they? They are frozen. Yeah, we had a frost. Guys, we had a brand new calf over the weekend, which means our second milk cow is in milk. We are back in milk. How many teeth does this calf have? Okay, they're saying the new calf has 6 teats. I'll believe it when I see it. Honey's gonna be due soon too. You guys gotta give Harriet deep bedding. That too is Stud Muffin's calf. It's a little heifer. You want to keep her too and have 4? This mat will never work, it's too cheap. We're prototyping our own mineral shawl design. Hey, here, let's be careful, let's be careful. All right. You're all right. You guys got to be handling them if we're gonna keep her. She is— she— yep, it's a she. Calf has 6 teats. 2, 4, 6. You're a good mama, Vanilla. You letting Harriet out? Yeah, honey, the matriarch. Her calf, Harriet. Go let Harriet out. We pin them up at night so that they can get mama— milk builds up overnight. No, no, no, other side. You go to the belt. This calf is from our late bull Studmuffin, and we're excited to keep her. She's actually A2A2, which is a beta casein genetic that makes their milk easier to digest. You want to go feed some?
Did they bite you?
They don't bite. Gideon, let's cut it much higher. Now we have this big mountain laurel. We have this amazing little swing. Are we still in the swing? And that's our view. I think we can improve on that though. What do you think? I told Austin, our editor, who happens to be moving in for a year or two, which is going to be exciting for the edit and also for filming assist. Austin, we're inadvertently getting this place ready for you, so I might as well go at it. Wait, you changed your mind already?
Yeah.
Okay, Rebecca and I can't live in somewhere without Improving it drastically. How am I gonna get that? I guess I'm gonna get down there. I want to give you guys the swing shot and you guys kind of get a time lapse of it improving. That's better. I have to saw that one with the chainsaw, it's so thick. But still, those bushes are in the way. That's going to be a spectacular view. Lily's horse ring, Violet's pasture. This boxwood I need to cut way back. We need to get Cut this one way back down. I think it's chainsaw work. How is this happening? This is the second one we've gotten to you guys. Guys, why was a box on it?
It wasn't on it, it was under it.
That's the second air mattress we bought. We haven't even been here a week. Jonah, can I cut these boxwoods down, man? Come here. What's your affinity with these boxwoods?
It gives us privacy.
The view is so much better now that you got the laurels away. But what about the view?
It's there.
Yeah, if you stand up. Jonah wants privacy in the field from any future guests, but like, aren't they gonna be like invited guests? And won't that be part of the experience for the guests, is being able to look out into the field? I gotta be careful to override my son though. I don't want to deflate him. What do you think? Might have to take a family vote.
Just trim them down normal like that one. I don't want it trimmed down a lot.
You don't want them trimmed down a lot? Why?
Because they wouldn't have such a green top. Like, why don't we do it like that one?
There's such a beautiful pasture we've worked so hard to make and we can't even see it.
You can see when we get into that house.
And why can't our guests see it? Why don't you want them to see it?
Because look, we can still see if you need to go to the bathroom.
Is that seriously why we're not cutting?
No, no, no. But it's privacy from the road is the main thing.
There's nobody on this road. It's a dead-end road. Josiah, Trim the bushes down so we have a view or not? Or keep them so there's privacy? I don't care. Do you like the view or do you— yes. Okay, yes, he's like, he's like, he likes the view.
Oh yeah, the bushes. Are we from the clan? Keep the bushes. Are they from the clan? Yeah, a house and the bushes.
I'm gonna leave this. We'll see what— hey, well, hey, you know what? We'll see what the beautiful one wants. I feel like I gotta do something about this porch, but it's kind of I don't know, I'm stuck for some reason. Okay, I'm just gonna hit one thing at one time and get this picked up. And ta-da! So much better. Generous porch, shoe shelf, open area over here. We're leaving the bushes for now. I think we've entered a general compromise. Beauty had the idea of ripping them out and replacing them with more beautiful bushes, and Jonah seems to be on board with that as long as he can go shop and have a say in it. That's what I'm talking about. See Lily riding her horse down there? Wouldn't that be nice to see real clearly? Hey y'all, enjoying our— at our back porch. Mom's back. She's got us to run from the store. Grater, coffee mugs, cups, right back to shopping, huh honey? If you're just joining us, we had a grease fire in the house we were staying in while we remodel our farm, our homestead dream house. Thankfully we have this little house that Papa grew up. Whoa, I got you guys, I got you guys. The original farmhouse, over 100 years old. Okay, we're doing it, huh?
Shelving it.
Shelving. We had no place for towels. Look how uneven this 100-year-old house is. We're gonna just shock it. Put that on Randolph for this. Hey, don't forget, too blessed to be stressed. This is fun. I'm gonna say that to myself. This is fun.
So fun.
It's so fun. We got a little bit of leftover stud muffin I've turned into some nachos. Easy meals is the name of the game. Reheating Rebecca's Some broccoli. Yeah, that's good. I built us some Outback Steakhouse copycat recipe for their Alice Spring chicken with our chicken. I got us some stainless steel for over here. What, did you set it up? Did you set it up for us? Yeah, thank you. Why don't you pick up that ratty toilet paper? I know you need to take a break. I know you got a lot to do, but you got to eat. We have a film fest here on the farm today.
Yeah.
That we got to get ready for. Oh, you're stacking it for us. Good job. All right, where are we eating these days? Besides on the chair? What's our table plan?
I gotta get some chairs, and once I get some chairs—
Yeah, these have leaves, man. It is prep time. You ready for this party?
Are you ready for this?
You ready for this? You ready for this? You gotta film in this, Austin. I'm excited. Yeah, Justin's picks today. Annie has come in clutch, set up all the drinks. Austin, they got coffee coming. I was hoping there was coffee. Okay. Matt and Tara, neighbors I didn't know till now. I invited everybody within 10 miles. What is right outside your door and to the right outside?
I have a garden and, uh, we're building the Chickshaw Mini.
Another new face. How's it going? I'm Frank. What's your name? Frank. Okay, the half-assed farmer. Okay, half what? Fast. Half fast. Hey, Stephanie, how you doing? Yes, we farmed that for you. That's right. And your cows were our very first cows to milk. That's right. It's a good memory. Responsible for all this. See this? Look at this. You remember? You remember? This is familiar territory, huh, Teddy? Teddy, you want to meet Winnie? Winnie's like, you're too— you're too hyped up for me. Hey, first wife. Yes, I'm Darla. Nice to meet you, Darla. Okay, nice to meet y'all. Steak and eggs. Okay, here's some new faces.
Bryson and Sierra.
Bryson and Sierra. There's quiche, pork rib, red onions. Carnivore friendly right there. Eggs, steak, and quiche. All these people within 10 miles. I'll dig in. All right, sounds good. Is this Of course it's egg. Everybody brought an egg dish because we're swimming in it. Dinner, you want to hand out popcorn? Yeah, come on, take one to Tara. You gotta take the truck with me. Give the popcorn to anybody you want. One more batch will do it. People might snack after. You, you didn't pass it out. This is so fun. Everybody's got their popcorn. We're all just chilling, watching something together. This is so fun. This is so fun. You excited? I'm so excited. And we've not seen it.
I know, we haven't.
I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time. Uh-oh, he's— We'll see if I get fired. I said, "Dan, you gotta watch this." I'm not gonna watch it. Make sure it's okay. I'm gonna watch them all. We just finished that. That was so much fun, and watching it all together with others— Guys, it's over. Do stay tuned for next year. If you're a filmmaker, we can leave a link for that down in the description. Let's just all look forward to it next year. Funny. You're real funny. Well, this is a quick, we're just getting by kind of meal. We made pizza bites, which is just mozzarella slices. Then there's ricotta just— I— and where is it? I guess we're out of ricotta for that new one. And then we do ricotta, diced onions, salt, some lettuce with some salad dressing. We're growing what we eat, we got to eat what we grow. It's egg season. You want to tell them happy day?
