Still train them to a bucket. It's been over a week, though. You guys got to get out of here. They're kind of coming. Seems like it takes a long time for figs to they really like get crazy about a bucket. I've trained them to this electric fence. Okay, this is not good. Beefcake's not really hungry. Hmm, really, Beefcake? Shoot, what's wrong, buddy? You're eating something. What are you eating? Come on. Cheesecake's eating just fine. Uh, let me try some skim milk. That's not good if a pig's not gonna eat. He's wanting to lay it down. He's acting like he's wanting to eat while laying down. Let's see if we can get him up for some skim milk. Let's take to get him outside now. I mean, yeah, it'd be good for him, but it's wet. It's gonna be stressful to move them. I think we'll just, um, see what happens with him and maybe start getting stuff set up. Now she's over there eating that food. Come on, come on, Beefcake. There we go. That's what I want to see. That's what I want to see. Come here. Oh, he's got a cough. Okay, that might help us figure out what's going on. Here you go. Here, come here, come here, come here, come here. Let's get you eating something. Please don't resist the skim milk. Don't resist that. You need to eat something. This is real good. And I think the more he eats, the more he's piping up. We will save all the skim milk for you, buddy, if that's what you'll eat. Don't stop. Where are you going? Where are you going? What's wrong? A little bit of a droopy eye, a little cough. We're doing all we can, buddy. Oh look, that's good, she came over here. That gives him competition. That's good. You like getting pet? Yeah, it comes back. Don't come back to petting it yet. Get your milk. Oh, used to be the other way around, Beefcake. Assert yourself, buddy. Gonna go lay back down? No, come on, eat you a little more. All right, he's laid back down. I've pulled the milk out so she just doesn't drink at all. She's had plenty, she's got her feed. Uh, we're gonna, we're gonna see what happens. Let's go set them up. That is our breeding stock, and actually Beefcake will be half of our breeding pool. So he's— we need him to be tough. We need him to cook this. They have clean water, lots of it, all they can want. They have good food, access to minerals every day, good fresh deep bedding. It's really all we can do. Fresh minerals for the day. I mean, I'll ask Rebecca if there's anything specific we can do for a cough or whatnot, but Yeah. Beefcake does not have much of an appetite this morning. In his coffin. Okay. So I don't know if there's anything more we can do, but I'm doing all the things.
Oh, great.
I don't know about moving him because that's gonna be stressful. Yeah.
I mean, charcoal, just making sure he has charcoal, vitamin C.
He's got all the— minerals.
Is it— does he have all of it and they're actually separated?
And yep, when you're refreshing it every morning.
I mean, Joe Salton says charcoal is the only thing they ever do.
All right, our pig, uh, our pig is being lethargic, so I've been dealing with that. But why don't you call me when it's time to milk? Okay, maybe like in 20 minutes. Yeah, let's try to milk by 8:30. Yeah, we'll be done by 20. Oh good, there's our house, guys. The old creek. The old bridge to Grandma's. We're going right through there. Well, I'm thinking the pigs could start right here. What do you think? Yeah, walking up this path. That's the property lines over there, shoots out through there, but we own up there. On top of that ravine, cliff, whatever, and over here. So I was thinking actually in here. We had Fred put in this gravel road. It ends right there, but really it keeps going, and we can have a winding road up through some gradually sloped property within the woods. The pigs will love it. They'll help us convert it to pasture. We need water. Oh, here it is, right here at my feet. Boy, we're kind of— we're probably going to be lucky. I think this is probably PEX, so maybe it's been buried. If it's been under the leaves and stuff, that's good because then it won't have breaks. But I think this stuff can get brittle. Okay, but at least it's drinking safe. There we go. That goes all the way up to Grandma's house. We need to go see. What have you guys done here? I thought this hole was so deep, but it's only like this deep. Yeah, it looks deep. What have you done here besides leave my tools out? We leave— All right, grab a tool. Come on, this is my nice hole digger. Oh my gosh, this is a hill, a very steep hill for Grandma. So let's see if we can find There's been some grading. Hopefully that hose, that line of water survived. Worst case, we can go down and trace it up. I kind of hate to get it uncovered because it being covered is protecting it from any UV. Oh, I see it. There it is. It'd be a miracle if the connection is still intact. Pretty sure we can— it's clogged up. No, it isn't. It's only got a little bit of dirt in it, but there's the end. Looks like it's been broke. Oh, how would you fix it? We don't have the right size for that, I don't think. What'd you guys say? We're ready for you to come and milk. Okay. I said okay without pushing the button. Okay, I'll be right there. We are at a good stopping point there. We're gonna have to get some connectors. Let's, let's see how this thing connected at the end. Oh, interesting. Just put a water hose over it and some clamps. We actually might have that. We save all our drinking-safe hoses that get spent for this reason. Something like this would be perfect, just the old hose, grab the end off of it. So we'll have to look around later. And now we got to milk. Later is now. I found one, and that's the one we need, the female. Come on, come on. Are you gonna hang her tail, Lily? You can hold on to it. Yeah, but I want a room too before I can. Okay, all right. She's got a sore teat, so she does not stand still. So I've waited till we got her clean. Alfalfa helps a little, but not 100%. Better than nothing. It is better than nothing. Our apple cider vinegar now and our RC Gold. We are in peak leaves, guys. Jonah recognizes that. He said, can I go get the drone? I said, heck yes. Let's see the kind of footage he can get of these beautiful Western North Carolina leaf change. You got them all? You got it? You got it to where you can all— you can touch them all, huh? Rider, here is Belle, um, Floppy, Bandy, um, Dixie. Our goal is to fill this up. We're almost there. Sometimes we need the calf to release some more milk. We're done milking her. Let's check this. It's a, uh, it's a wound in a precarious spot. It's, it's where her udder connects to her body. So it'll, it'll kind of scar up and then it'll just kind of open again just because it's constantly getting rubbed when she's walking. So this one's going to take a while, I'm thinking. Yeah, leave it there, honey. No more shoveling that stuff. No more hauling it to the chickens. Yeah, let's put the calf back with the sheep and then maybe in about an hour I'll come Let the calf back on her because we gotta let that, uh, we gotta let this cream sit in. He's eating breakfast and look who knocked on the door. Lo and behold, it's Randolph. Hello there. He's been here. You've been, you've been sneaking, working on this sheeshaw, haven't you? Yeah. I think you like working on these projects, don't you? I've been here since daylight. Have you really? No, I was gonna say I usually don't miss people. Look at this, you done went and did this. Yeah, all the angles is 45s. Okay, so that'll be easy. Oh, let me go get Rebecca. I'm excited. We'll make sure she's happy with this pitch. I didn't imagine it being that tall, but I think I like that better. I really like that. It looks like a house right there. That's, that's gonna be cute. Hold on. Yes, I did just say cute. Oh my goodness, you gotta see this. Hey Rebecca, you got a minute? Yeah, you got to see this. Okay, Randolph's been working on the shoe show.
Oh, okay, I put shoes on.
Rebecca, I knew Randolph was coming, but I just figured he hadn't come yet.
Oh, I knew he was here.
Took a 2-week health break. You knew he was here?
I did, the kids told me. I like it.
It's cute. Isn't that something?
It's so cute. I love this.
We're talking about doors here. I'm trying to convince her we don't need a door if we have black— we have nice black nesting boxes because your theme is white and black. Yes, you're in black trim.
Okay, so then here—
so you're going for that? That— you think that's good enough?
Yeah, that's fine.
Yeah, maybe show them how big you want that window there.
Just as big as it can be.
All right, but not so big that you can't put trim on there, right? Yeah. How's that for some siding? That's some siding right there.
Windows like this, and then the door is going to be about a foot wide.
Randall's asking how I want to pitch this. Yeah, I mean, if it goes— I can't— that would be enough. That right there would be enough. Okay. All right, and then we prop it up with the handle. This is going to have a handle. Yeah, it has a metal handle that can come out and we prop it up with that. Okay, is that going to be a problem? No, I think— I think I got it. All right, well, we got you busy for a day at least, don't we? I'm gonna do something our mentor suggests. Our sheet mentor. She's also our If something goes wrong with any of our animals, then we're— she said give him some hay to bed in. She's just— she want to make sure he stays warm. You stay. Yeah, there's that cough. Okay, would you drink some milk? Let's save some milk out here. Would you drink some milk? Hey, you're gonna eat the hay? I'm gonna give you some of that hay. Here, here, drink that. Eat that. Here, I'm gonna get it to you for your bedding. Definitely not cold here, uh, but you might— yeah, I mean, maybe if you, if you're gonna run a fever. We don't know if he's got a fever. He is drinking that milk. That's encouraging. Keep drinking it, buddy. Keep drinking it. It's encouraging because he still wants to live. But it also means he'll take stuff and I don't have to drench him. Look at that. Do need some greens. Another reason we aren't going to put them out is because he really needs to stay dry. If he's gonna run a fever or something, he doesn't need to be wet. And we are really wet right now. Here, you want some greens? Yeah, look at that, look at that. Getting them off the mouse just so they don't get wood chips in them. He's going over that, over his skim milk. What just happened? Did he just get lamped? He just backed up and fell down. Got another idea from our mentor. I just need to find— I'm tired of making swill up on our grill. Where's our camp stove? Oh, it's up at the barn. That's from my stovetop grill burner. Although it's more convenient, I don't know, it gets it all sooty. This didn't do so bad, and Mom doesn't like it up there anyway. It's making a big old mess, so let's just get it down here. So anyway, I'm gonna share something with you guys as I put this together. Joel Salatin, he's got a new book. It's called Polyface Designs. It's teaching folks step by step how to build all his mobile infrastructure. Well, I guess in some instances not so mobile infrastructure, like cattle runs and stuff and chutes and stuff like that. So he's— anyway, he's asked me to sell it. Pre-Amazon, like it's not coming to Amazon till 2021. I want to really give you your bang for your buck, and I've been thinking about all the different things I can do. It's a great book. I've actually seen it. Actually, I actually got to write the foreword. So excited about this. I've got some great ideas to launching this thing. How about let's go up there and see Joel and see those structures, show them to you guys in a YouTube video? I think that will be inspiring. Let's do that. I don't know, uh, let's air that this weekend. Let's do— let's go up the end of the week, air that Sunday, act like I'm casual about this. I've been planning this for weeks. Um, Let's see if we're getting gas. Getting gas. We're getting gas. More on the south end bit in a second, but, um, Claire mentioned a soup for us, for the, for the pigs, and that's sticking with Rebecca and I's theme of healing with food, so I'm all about it. I'll show you what's in this thing in just a second. So Claire suggested a liver swill. That's very healing. Lily's gonna be— liver is gonna be extremely healing. That's a lamb. I'm gonna put some garlic cloves in there, and then this is my idea, some— we'll make some chicken broth out of this. And then, well, there's some things we'll add. After this is over, but let's just call this magic soup. That's going good. We'll let that sit for a few hours. But anyway, going up to Joel's this weekend. He's got a book that is gonna help you build exactly like him. You can scale it up, scale it down. It's gonna be amazing. I've managed to work out all kinds of bonuses like A surprise gift sticker I'm having designed for you guys. Joel's gonna sign the first 1,000 copies. I'm working on all kinds of videos that I have from Joel over the last several years and putting together some different tiers in case you want just more than the books, so— That's this weekend. And Randolph is crushing it. He's already got the side up. Oh yeah, look at that. That's looking good. Okay, I've been crushing it on this, so I thought I don't need to make you guys wait for any content. Sure, we haven't seen the book yet. We'll see it this weekend, uh, for that video, but some of you guys might want some content now. How about I give you a lecture Joel did when he was here called You Can Farm? I'll give you that when you sign up for my email list, and then you'll have the first opportunity to get this book. Like, first 1,000 books signed, first 1,000 books free bonus sticker, webinar. Yeah, so just— there it is. I'll leave the link for that down in the description. Maybe I should come up with a fun domain name for this. All right, let's check. Let's check. The name of the book is Polyface Designs. Let's see if that's available in a.com. It is available, so go to polyface— polyfacedesigns.com if you don't have the description thing. All right, I got some editing done. Let this cook for several hours. I did come out here and let the lid off, and this is cooled. It's liver in there somewhere. Yeah, there's the liver. Okay, before we take care of that pig, let's check out Randolph's build. You're serious? This looks so good. That turned out really nice. A little vent up top and the black nesting boxes look fine. Oh, and you put a trim here so she can either trim that. Yeah, uh, color it black or white. Oh, you know where else we're gonna add to this? Cod liver oil. And oh, one more thing— two more things, I guess. We've been adding this. That's just the herbal dewormer for Pabella, I think. Anyway, apple cider vinegar. Magic soup. Look who's up! Look who hears me! Come on, I want to see you eat that liver. He's eating it. Head. He's eating a chicken head. Come on, get some of that liver. Oh, you just got some of the garlic. That's good. Now you got the neck, the chicken neck. Oh, she spit the liver out. Come on, honey, really? He's eating that chicken neck. You're looking better, dude. You're kind of up and at it. Eat that. It's the liver. Come on, you don't want it. I guess he knows what he wants. He'd rather have a chicken leg. He's wagging his tail. He wasn't even moving his tail earlier today. Did you just have a bad night? Did you guys have a bad night? Hmm, she's eating it all. Did you get your liver or did you put it out again? She's eating the livers. That's good. Here, eat that liver. Peppers, onions, lamb kebabs. All right, we already made our spice blend. And do you think you could just sit in this for 30 minutes, or you think it's got to sit in a plastic bag?
It's totally fine.
I got my kebabs seasoned. It's supposed to sit for 30 minutes. Those look nice. Rebecca's cut up the onions and the peppers. What are you making?
I'm making the salad. I'm gonna make salad dressing real quick.
You're hankering for a Greek salad, you and Snowball, aren't you? You want your big old Greek salad?
Exactly right.
Oh yeah, preheated this thing. I'm gonna turn it down to medium. Well, aren't those turning out nicely? So what we're gonna do— I have so many people, I don't think it's a good— and people might not like onions, they might not like peppers. I don't like either, so I'll just eat the meat. Oh my, call the employer. That's pretty good. That's good.
