Trouble in Pig Paradise

This content was created by Victor Justin Rhodes. This content was uploaded by Victor Justin Rhodes. This is a YouTube video titled "Trouble in Pig Paradise" (created 2024-09-15). It is an English first-person farm vlog where an unnamed narrator documents daily homestead chores and projects: managing an ornery turkey during breeding season, troubleshooting and repairing a water/hose setup and a fence/electric issue (including a trip to Lowe's for plumbing parts), improving a chicken run (dry dust bath/shade), clearing and moving items from a farmhouse porch, painting a childhood bed for Lily, preparing for butchering, and making broth. The narrator references family and helpers (Rebecca, Gideon, Lily, Austin, Ashton, Henry) but the excerpt is primarily a single-speaker, informal narration of on-site tasks and observations.

Beefcakes. Little ornery. I think he sees me as a threat. It's, uh, breeding season. She's in heat. We saw him mate yesterday. Maybe that has cycled through. He'll be a little more pleasant today. He's like at me. That's why he's not going after that chicken. He's going after me. He sees me as a threat to the lady. Hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! That might have been a little dramatic. My problem with the water too, so I'm gonna have to go in there, hopefully not die. What is that? I'm scared to go back in there with her and heat like this. Might be able to with this device. Somebody gave me this. I have the female to female for this end. I have the nipple water for this end. That would connect my hose. But how do we prevent water from going out the bottom? And I think this has been screwed off. So how do we prevent water from coming out that? Let me be free. Oh my gosh. We inadvertently built a skating rink. Come on, guys, put the skates up. We gotta go do chores. One of the goals today: get these boxes out of here, get this porch clean, empty the farmhouse of our stuff. First, we got chores to do, and we got shoes to find, Ergos to discover. I have no idea where the Ergo is in all this. Uh-oh. 2, 3, They're all still there. I'll bet 3 are out. Are you gonna let me put you down while I put these turkeys up? We're gonna have to find your shoes and ergo first. Our old home. Don't really miss it. No, I don't miss it. I'm thankful for it. I don't miss it. We must have taken it over, didn't we? We're gonna probably give up on that. This area is pretty cleaned out. The kitchen's pretty much ransacked. We need to get this finished, cleaned out, and the rest of our stuff over. Perfect Sunday sea day project. We found nothing. It's got to be all up in the moving stuff. Are they in this? There's some kings. There's a king. Where's the other one? Oh, there they are, both of them. All right, sit down. Can you walk? Because I don't know where your ergo is. We'll find it when we finish moving in. Incidentally, harvesting those guys tomorrow. People— more people are getting out. Let's just open this fence right here. This is what happened here, and they're out of water here. Gideon, 3 explanations for why these guys got out. Fence is blinking red, batteries are weak, it's probably not hitting hard. Gideon, they were out of food, they were out of water. What happened? I guess I didn't feed them enough or give them enough water because it was halfway full when I came out. So next time, what do we do? We go do the feed more, even if it's halfway. All right. New batteries we put in our head. Oh, 9.5, 9.6. That's working. Seems to be working. I'm disregarding the blinking. Absolutely critical. We can't keep the turkeys in, we can't keep them from predators, and we can't keep the predators from getting in. Okay, hold on, hold on. 1, 2, 3. Get the tractor. Talent can only pull the milk sled so far. If I can get this to work somehow I won't have to go back in there. Maybe I'll get lucky and water won't come out of this and water won't come out of this. If it comes out of this, you could probably fix it. If it comes out of this, I don't know. It's coming out of both of them. I could take this and mount it right there over by our cage. This was going to be impossible to fix at home. Then I remembered Rebecca was in town at Lowe's, pretty much the homestead store. Hey, are you still at Lowe's? Yes, she is. So it looks something like this. Finding parts online isn't as easy as in person. We're gonna hope I got it right. I'll replace this bit without that weeper there. We'll get an end cap for this one. While we're at it, we'll make this stem a little longer so we can secure it in more places against their fence. I think they'll be all right. Without water for a couple of hours. I want to show you guys a new addition in this chicken run. Best bath. We've been trying to put it outside, cover it at night. We never do that. It rains, it gets it muddy. Another thing we've done— I've tried to do— keeps it out of the rain, but then the chickens nest in there, they perch on there, and it gets all poopy. And I said, wait a minute, we aren't doing anything with the ramshaw right now. Ta-da! Gives the chickens a shade, keeps the dust bath dry. They are very happy, and so am I. Hey, looks like you were able to get some stuff besides my piping tools. Yeah, birthday gift for Lily's. Lily's birthday prep. You got a car? You're gonna associate Lowe's with a car? He does. Let's cross our fingers because plumbing jobs usually end up taking 2 or 3 trips to Lowe's. Oh shoot, it's not right. Already I can tell you. Why is that so little? Uh, okay, I think I already screwed up. This is— this not half inch? Why is this pipe so much smaller? What? There's no cap in here. Oh, and it would help if I would get all the parts. I didn't get the cap. I didn't tell Rebecca to get the cap. I don't know. Let's see what does work. That worked. Now why is this pipe— if all the rest of this is half inch— thanks for my engineer boy. Oh, we can just take that off too. Well, no, no, you just go from this. Yeah, ideally this is here so we can secure it to the post. Can't over-engineer something. It's the simpler it is, the easier it is. We're gonna just eliminate that and somehow secure this. For their water. What's this? I'm gonna attach it just to this thing. You're gonna put so many zip ties on that. They're so rough on things. It's leaking somewhere. All right, I gotta put a better— let's go get a wrench. No, I gotta put a better, uh, well, maybe. And I gotta put a better Teflon tape on it. Now we've tightened everything up. Try it again. Oh, it's on. Leaking slightly right there. I was coming out here to hopefully say, you know, hopefully that water will hold. It looks like it might have already been knocked down. I was primarily going to show you how cool that is. The barn is right there, office here. You take lunch right here, can easily check on him. Let's have a go at this porch. It's just boxes from moving. And just like that, we cleared the porch. How's sanding in the noonday sun? Hot. So what's the story on this bed? This is my childhood bed. We are painting it for Lily's room. It's been some new life. You're gonna be happy with that? Yeah. In the farmhouse, what are we gonna work on? Got some furniture out of the way. We got some goodies. I'm thinking one good strong day and we'll have this place cleared out. But tomorrow's butchering, so it's gonna have to be the next day. Excited about that. Get this place clear. Means Austin and Ashton can go in. Family friends. Austin's video editor will be able to do more filming. We're gonna take these videos to the next level. I'm very excited about that. We just killed some Indian chicken tonight. Oh, look at this! Oh my gosh. Our first broth. And we're filling it up with the pot filler. Don't even have to carry it. Oh no. We didn't see this about the big house. We'll run it to skating rink. And it's like a gym. Henry runs around crazy. What's going on? You calming him down? Yeah. Okay, that's good. You reading to him? Um, no, but we're putting it on his face. All right, anyway, maybe it'll make him sleep better at night. Happy day.
