The content is a casual, instructional/diary-style homestead vlog about harvesting, food preparation, and small-homestead projects.

Happy Casual Friday in the Rooted Life. I believe we're going to be harvesting and processing tomatoes. Friday is a little more laid back for us. Today it's going to be a race against— let's get our stuff done this morning and have movie night at like 3 PM. Well, we aren't harvesting tomatoes yet. We need to get the tile guy some more tile. It's over in the back shed. Homestead house build party numero uno. Tomato time! I think our little foyer front entryway is getting done right now. We'll have to check that out later. Sort of having second thoughts about this, to be honest. I'm a little nervous picking tomatoes. Without Beauty's final consent. Look who I got! Looking pretty today.
Thank you. From our date last night. Yeah, we went on a double date. It was so fun. I've got my crate. We're gonna see what we can get today. I feel like we have enough probably to do another run of tomatoes.
Tomatoes. Beauty's thinking though, they're not quite We're not quite ready for a bunch. I misjudged it.
I just feel like, yeah, there's two— like, they're not— like, sure, this is turning red.
Yeah.
And this is almost red, but it's not complete. I mean, some people are gonna be like, that's good enough, but yeah, um, well, you get the complete health benefit from total vine ripening. Supposedly you don't.
I don't know.
I don't know.
You don't know.
It just tastes best. Yeah, and if I'm gonna do all this work, I want it to taste good.
I don't see any ready here. Maybe that one.
I need help too with this.
There's something going on here because one thing that's going to happen is we're going to get a lot all at once. Josiah on our 5th round of green beans from these bush beans. Rebecca, these are like the beans that never end. So is this tomato ready, or it could stand to wait till Sunday?
And to wait till Sunday.
That tomato too. So all these tomatoes that are They're like almost ripe. Okay, all right, so we're gonna wait till Sunday. It's good you got to— what, a trimming day? I reckon Sunday we'll have a big harvest. What do you think?
Probably.
You're getting the weeds off of that? I love it. And we get a wheelbarrow load. This little kid wheelbarrow load swelling over. At this point, you know, fifth harvest. They're starting to, you know, they're starting to succumb to some fungus or bud pressure. We're gonna harvest it all and then call it, pull it up. Hey, we can throw it in the pig port, guys, all those tomato plants, everything. Top of the vlog here, I wanted to mention tonight is the last chance to get Christmas in July Homestead Builds. We've got a special going on, bonuses. And also ensuring you get your book by Christmas, designing the builds of your homestead— the coops and raised beds and produce drying racks and all kinds of stuff. Look at all these beans! Wow, just a jackpot there, Josiah. Look at this. That special ends tonight. Last chance to ensure a Christmas order. You want to check that out, homesteadbuilds.com. Beauty is saying big bean like this It's gotten too big, and pork tastes better than a big bean. Go to the pork pile. Oh, I can't wait. We're gonna get to use the pig pork. We're gonna dump all this into there, and whatever they don't eat, they turn into compost. And God, we're gonna do that as soon as we get this pulled up. A little slow going, but that's what homesteading is sometimes, isn't it, babe? Slow and monotonous. We're thankful for the harvest. This bean beans gave us. They gave us a huge bounty this year. Let's be honest, who likes weeding? This makes it borderline bearable. You want to grab a big bunch of it, Josiah and Lily? If you can't grab it all, we got 3 stacks like this. Let me show you how to turn weeding into a delight. Let's grab it from the bottom. Let's not drop any on our way out. We put it in a nice pile, you know. Wait, take it on to the pigs?
No, we're putting in the back alley.
They're excited. Say, we got something to do. What's beautiful about this? Have a look. Yeah, we gotta get the feed bag out. It's right next to the garden. We throw in our garden waste. Gives the pigs something to do all day. They'll dodge the tomato plants, they won't care for them much. They'll probably figure out the beans. That one eating the beans, I believe.
Look, there it is, trying to get them to look.
Beautiful thing is, what they don't eat, it's just gonna compost on their bedding, it's gonna turn into bedding. Look, does he like the bean? Nope. They know. Of course, they've just eaten today, so they might not be eating that. They might not need to be fed tomorrow. I don't want to leave, this is so fun to watch. Well, Beck, we're gonna have plenty of time for a movie this afternoon.
I know, I'm excited. I was just looking though, we do plant the garden. Is that big tree a problem? No, these little trees are. We're gonna have to replace them.
Oh yeah, we're thinking about expanding the garden 100 feet or 50 feet, and then it might— that one might not, and that one might not be in the way either. But if it's in the way, just move it. You're funny. She's gonna give me a conniption this Friday afternoon. Let me put this net back.
I'm joking. Lily, will you grab that?
We're looking at expanding this garden from 5,000 square feet to 10,000 square feet. We're getting serious about quitting that grocery store, kicking the grocery store habit one day at a time. Going in, we're excited. Probably be in by the end of the day. What do you think?
Stairs to the loft.
He's waiting for you. You, the inspector. How cool. Stairs up to the loft, gonna get a railing. It doesn't take up much room. Oh, what you got cooking, dog?
I made a big lazy man's lasagna.
A base of zucchini and Parmesan.
Zucchini, Parmesan.
Just in time, Henry.
Okay, touch it, touch it. It better be delicious because the garlic, onions—
oh, and this is our tomato sauce, isn't Mm-hmm.
Our tomatoes, our pork.
How'd you season our tomato sauce?
I didn't season it at all.
Our tomato sauce, our pork.
'Cause the pork is, the Italian sausage is so seasoned.
Mm.
Alright.
Mm. Delicious. We made it to the movie. It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon. We have to move! Movie night at 4 PM. The Martian. I guarantee you that at some point everything's gonna go south on you. Ready? You're gonna say, "This is it."
