Us Getting Ready for the Ultimate Trellis

Victor Justin Rhodes and his family prepare materials and build garden trellises on their farm, discussing lumber sizes, T-posts, wire gauge, and tensioners. They troubleshoot watering systems, make a hardware store run, and work through daily chores like milking and prepping ribs.

Top of the morning to you. Get in. You see that? That's a slug. See how the new water works? Set up. It's got some stuff in it. Jonah says they're turning around and pooping in it, uh, which is— could be the case. They've only got a little bit of backwash in there, so we're doing better. Did you do in here? Yeah. No, no, no, you couldn't have because I don't see any shavings. So I did have this idea. Let's put the— let's put a bucket lid down, raise up the water a little bit. And if the kids were to do this, they've gone and cleaned up— clean this, put the cap on at the bottom. Can you just bring the hose in here, fill that up? And any kid could do this, even Gideon. Look who just took over! Oh no, no, keep closer, keep closer. You got to keep it close. You're gonna be spraying everybody down.
I want to do that.
No, I don't want to do that. Can you get the cap off?
You could do this job yourself.
They got no problem drinking sinking. I've raised it up a little bit. Let's see if it's butt level. Yeah, still a little butt level. Well, we'll see. Our bell water from yesterday. I know how to hook this thing into a bucket, but what if we wanted to put it into our main water line? Oh, we'd have to get an adapter for this, but then I'm sure a pressure regulator, and maybe that's all we need to get. That'd be neat, as opposed to the 5-gallon vacuum seal, because it get water going to it, never have to be refilled. I'm as bad as the kids, didn't pick up my project yesterday. Maybe for a project today we can do these bean things. I don't know if I can do the trellis, but I could do this. I could do T-posts. And then that mesh. I came inside, talked to Mom about this garden, this trellis situation. We've got a trellis, our green beans, we've got to trellis our tomatoes. Two different systems though. Uh-oh, the water line came undone right there. That all looks really good. Cows just recently through that pasture. We've mowed behind them. Crops are coming in. It looks all good. This came off yesterday. I don't know what to do. That was on all the way. What is the deal? Let's push it back on there and then screw this on until it's tight. That should hold it. Don't shoot. In order to get trellises We've got to attach wires on both ends. I'm thinking, well, we have a 2x6 right there, but we kind of need to go all the way across. Can I mount— I could screw a 2x6 into this metal. Perhaps we did a, uh, pilot hole and then a metal screw. I think that would work. Hey, you're shooting me! That stings! That stings! And go all the way across to as far as we can over here. That would do it for the cucumbers, tomatoes. There's 2 rows of tomatoes and 2— 1 row of cucumbers. I don't know if that was watering all night or all morning, but we got some Water in our beans. This is one of those cases where I'm asking myself, what would Rebecca do? She would scoop out the extra water from these beans. It's gonna take a while. Gideon, you wanna come help me scoop?
I'll help when I'm done loading my gun.
While we're over washing our hands— I meant to do this yesterday— let's check our Cummins fuel.
Come in.
Been using this thing like that's fuel.
All right.
Oh crud, I don't remember there being two. Openings for fuel.
There is. Where's the other opening, Papa?
See fuel. That's a fuel tank.
That's a fuel—
that's the fuel filter. We've got fuel, but how do we know how much? Oh, this is for measuring our tank up top. Just— how was string trimming?
Good.
Did you get it done? Oh, you know where I'd like you to string trim? And mow along the bank over here beside the garden. Fan's going. All right, that's cool. Okay, so out of— I don't know, the— let's see what this says. It could be 11 inches and it's at 6 inches, so it's about half full. I'd say we're good. Found a better storage for our measuring stick. Just hung it from this beam to that light because we only need it for this Cummins and our tank, which is just right around the corner there. So might as well keep it close by. Look who's here! Everything's a picture, everything's picture-worthy, isn't it, you veggie pants?
Oh, look how cute!
Yeah. All right, it's milking time, but Beauty's out here. Let's just go make a plan with our, our garden.
He said he waters for 40 minutes every day.
Yeah. Okay, well, they definitely have that. We're gonna do a 2x6 all the way across there. Yeah. And then tie our wire to it for the tomatoes and the cucumbers.
Yeah.
For the beans, T-posts, but we got to get the cable that goes through the top of it for our wire mesh. And I'm thinking T-posts every, I don't know, 10 feet maybe. They say, uh, no more than 25 feet. Rebecca is pruning her tomatoes. Rebecca, I had an idea. Since you wanted to go to Hens Plant Farm and get some, uh, sprawling flowers for the banks, some other things, maybe we should go there and see if they don't have something trellising, because it would be good to see how a professional did it. I got some construction down here at the end to get these posts in. I mean, I could take all day to do that, or I could see if Randall's available and he knocked it out in like an hour and a half.
The wire will be tense all the way across.
Yeah, but from what I see the videos, it doesn't have to be crazy tense.
No, but we could use high tensile wire, and with those tensioners, it shouldn't be a problem.
Yeah, I can't do all this alone, so let's just see if Randolph's available. Hey, are you available anytime early this week for a small project in the big greenhouse? What you working on, honey?
Killing bugs. Killing squash bugs and their eggs.
I see one. You're about to get you some yellow squash.
One under here. Oh yeah, there's one right there too. Gotta kill them.
I think our mission this week is these trellises before these guys get too big. Only found a few clamps down here. I found a few more things in the tool room. Let's just go take an inventory. Well, I haven't heard from Randolph, but I think we have— we looked at one of Casey Off Switch's videos. He's got the straps on the hoops themselves. Then we don't need Randolph, but we do need to get some stuff. He did just wake up. That was not the plan, Henry. You're supposed to stay asleep for this car ride. So if we go to the local hardware store, theoretically we could get the stuff we need and install, start installing tomorrow. Teddy thinks he's going, but we need— we don't need two babies. It's kind of cool our other kids are old enough to stay at home now. They are with Arun, but still, they're old enough to stay with another adult without like Arun, without him like having to babysit babies.
Yeah, he doesn't have to All right, Henry, we're at the old hardware store.
Let's get what we need to get. Zip ties. Yeah, get the big pack. There's your wire, probably what, 12 gauge? Do you think the 14 is thick enough? I feel like that's thick enough. Yeah, it seems like that's probably plenty right there.
Yeah.
Oh yeah, twine. Let's get us a nozzle for tomorrow's butchering. You along for the ride. And then our cable clips. We are back jumping right into it, staying busy. Got all our stuff for tomorrow. But on today's episode of Burn It Up Cooking Show, we're going to cook ribs. Thank you. So we're gonna go ahead and salt them. This is my new favorite method of cooking, I reckon. This, uh, gigantic Dutch oven. I am gonna put a little bit of water in the bottom just to keep it— help keep it moist. Then I'm gonna put this covered in the oven on 250 to 11:30. I wish I would have started this at about 9:30, so maybe, yeah, 250 instead of 225. And we eat at 5, so maybe we'll grill this a little bit before just to give that flavor, get some barbecue sauce on there. We got supper in. Training time. All right, you're gonna make us sweat today, Jacob.
I, I think just standing out here is gonna make you sweat.
Yeah, a little bit of a sauna out here. This is earth sauna. We got new, new pads. He's got us brand new pads. Breathing exercises. Into the right, out to the left, through the nose. When we cool down, we're gonna do the opposite.
Don't strain your neck when you do this. Just look up for a second and back down.
Original OG movements right here, Jacob.
It's actually called Original Strengths.
Did we tell you that? Yeah, OG Strength. Yeah.
All right, now look around at your heel. So what you're going to do is I'm going to look at my right— or my left heel over my right shoulder, my right heel over my left shoulder, and just look around each time. And again, don't strain.
Just look for a second and then back. Good training. Actually breathing a bit. About to get on a phone call. A guy, potential content for Abundance Plus. By the way, the waitlist is coming tomorrow. We're launching that June 27th. Got a lot of goodies in that waitlist for you guys. Don't want to miss tomorrow's video, don't want to miss that waitlist. We see you guys then.
