It's us and our farm against 6 inches of snow and sub-zero temperatures. We're dealing with frozen waters, keeping warm, a freak and unexpected accident, and a heifer that is in her first time labor. Keep that going. We need a little more than that, right? Well, yeah. Okay. Just to keep it going. You haven't enjoyed a wood stove until you've deserved a wood stove. Now let's get these chores on and deserve this cozy spot by the fire. Very cold out here, Papa. How cold do you reckon it is? 5 degrees. That might be about right, actually. Oh my gosh! Oh my word, the trough heater's still working! That's one less problem. I didn't think that would work at 5 degrees. He's gonna milk. Let's haul— let's haul water to this. Harriet, you had that baby? Thanks for holding off. I was worried she'd had the baby on the coldest day of— they say it's going to be the coldest spell of the season. You're looking close, man. Those udders are getting big. Please hold off so we can train you to the stanchion. Good morning, Vanilla. You staying warm? Stay warm, stay warm. Hey Jonah, I've noticed this oak wood definitely lasting a lot longer in the wood boiler. Yeah, I say we take the poplar trees, we have so much wood, and just put them off to the side. Okay, and prioritize the oak wood. We've also got some, uh, cherry. That would be very good too. Tiny, cozy in there. Don't worry a bit for the cows in the pole barn. They've got deep bedding, they've got cover, they've got wind protection from the north side. Well, shoot, they even have wind protection from the east side. They're open to the south, the sunny side. Even the chicken. Josiah said the sink downstairs isn't working. That's an emergency. That means our pipes are freezing. Oh shoot, please tell me no. It's working. Okay, now turn it the other way. Turn it to cold. Oh, are you serious? Shoot. Sink work? Yeah, don't run the dishwasher right now with the water not working. Let's see if it clears up as it warms up. Maybe that's a whole separate issue since the other sinks are working. It also because that's on the exterior wall. You staying warm down here? You staying warm down here? How are they doing? They dug a big old pit to stay warm. Look at their panel lights. Don't worry about them. The bedding is frozen in here. Or was it full of water? It had water in it to begin with. Pound Cake's in heat. Beefcake ain't about to let us go in there. The nipple on his water is frozen. Let's see if it kept this thaw out. No, that's solid ice. It could be because it's so high up from the trough here. It could be that there's the trough heater is disconnected, or not, you know, not working. In that event, put a little pan and fill it up with the water in the morning. Pigs have zero delay gratification. They're such sloppy eaters and drinkers. We'll probably need to— well, we'll need to come and water them again this afternoon. You want to get us water to take the piglets? There's water in the creek. Yeah, but there's not a deep spot there. I'll get a deep spot. I'll hold it from a distance. Blowing snow blew in on our It's so fluffy though. Let's get the stuff that has snow on it. Hey, you aren't in that wood stove yet? Yeah. Your hands freezing yet? Not much, probably. Do 2 in 1 this afternoon. It's the cows in the field I'm worried about. You worried about them? Nah, if they're still alive this morning, they're fine. Yeah, this is probably the coldest night of the— yeah. They survived. They look just fine. Don't worry about your cows, guys. There's cows in Wyoming. Is there going to be water under that, or is it so— is it frost? It's solid. It's about 4 inches. I'll just put water on the top. Shouldn't we dump it? No, no, watch. That don't do nothing. Is this our cracked one? Yeah, there's cracks right there. Hey, Josie. Hey, look, it's leaking. That won't work. I wish I could tell you it would. I'll put this out here for them and they can drink out of it. No, they're not gonna drink a lot. This is the kind of stuff you have to notice, bro. Watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out! We can't just put water on top because it's cracked. It was the ice that cracked this, or is this our cracked one? We had a cracked one. Dang it, we just ruined a trough. Lily went in bare-handed. She's boss. There you go. Lily's taking one for the team. Okay, yeah, that's frozen solid too. It must— it must be the trough heaters at the very bottom of this 50-gallon tub. I imagine the water's too high up for it to keep it warm, and these trough heaters much more shallow. Come get your water, dude. It's only one of them. These pigs didn't drink water. Really? Yeah. How they doing in their new shelter we've built for them this year? Oh, there they go. Sides protected from two different sides of wind. They got a little hay nest box. They're doing good. It's dry, it's not snowy. They got hair, they got lots of fat. Not too worried about them. Clown grandpas. Braver than I am. That's a good grandson. I'm the least worried about the chickens. You saw their setup at what would have been yesterday's video. Food, water, got our heater set up. I love that we brought it up over. I don't know why we never thought about that. Uh, water, shelter. Putting your chickens in the greenhouse. Comes in clutch. The difference in here— wow. I'm sure this is thawed out. Oh yeah. Hey, hey, good idea, get the weight off that high tunnel, buddy. There it is. Okay, Jonah just came and got me. He said he was going up Big Daddy's driveway to scrape again, couldn't go anymore, started sliding backwards, jumped out, and it's flipped. Thank God he's okay. All right, you'll get above it. Okay, go get above it. He scraped it. Now son can get to this blacktop. Does Sally seem okay? No, the seat was loose anyway. That's okay. We need a scrape on that thing. Tracks. I wouldn't have never dreamed this would be sliding. Put your seat belt on in there. You'll be fine in that even if you flip. It's a tank as long as your seat belt's on. Josiah's concerned the Sally can't sit too long on our side. If we got to get her up right away, we got to go shovel the driveway. When I titled this Us Versus Snowstorm, This is not what I imagined. I thought we were gonna win. I thought we were gonna win by margin, but right now we're losing. To size concern, she laying on her side, it doesn't seem too unreasonable. So if we get the snow off of it, the sun can hit this blacktop, it'll melt faster on the edges where the salt is, not in the middle. No, that's the middle. That's where the You can't even walk up it. It's getting soon. Look. Yeah, the sun is going to be behind these laurels in about half an hour, an hour anyway. That's going to be all we're going to get. What's the plan once we get up here? I'm going to put the skid steer forks underneath the top of that and push it up. We don't even have to get it off today. I just want it flipped up because it will be sketchy to get off. It's just getting flooded. It's probably already flooded. Well, I'm worried about the oil in the bottom. Remember how we've had those oil problems before where it leaked through. That was quick. I feel like it's okay now. No slippy. All right, this is good. Okay, everybody get above it just in case. We don't need to get her off the mountain, we just need to get her turned up. And then the camera battery died. Jonah was able to leverage higher up on the Sally. Got it on its two wheels. Of course she doesn't start, she's flooded. We're gonna try her in half an hour. Yeah, earn that wood stove right here, buddy. Come on, Josie, you earned it, buddy. Sitting relaxed by the fire. Continuing our office bookshelf project. I need you to go get the ladder. Let's hang it. I'm gonna go get it. Stay here. That's the last one. They're just like the brothers in Ocean's Eleven. Waiting, sweetheart, just waiting. Good, go. Waiting for you. Go, little girl. You're like a little girl. Just do this all day. I'm gonna get out of the car and I'm gonna drop you like third period French, okay? Stop talking, go. No boys are working on the shelves. I'm gonna do the Burn It Up cooking show. What do we got? We're gonna see how it goes. It's gonna be first time ever making it. It's farm friendly. We've got some leftover brisket brisket. We just par-baked some potatoes. Got an Azure onion. You know what I'm making yet? If you don't got it yet, you'll get it now. As many eggs as we need. I asked the beautiful one if I could cook some onions with this leftover brisket, and she said, oh, what is it called? Corned beef hash. Because we just made some Reubens, so let's just do this. I'm trying to be the guy that gets gets everything ready before we go. So let's do that. Got our meat cut up really fine. I had started baking potatoes, then we realized we could make this. So these are par-baked. I think they're ready. All we just got to do is brown them. Let's peel them and dice them. Got the potatoes done. I'm a little— good and bad news. Good news and bad news all in one is they are cooked. It means we don't have to do them much in the frying pan, but they're also soft, so we're gonna have to nail this just right or they're just gonna get mushy, and we don't want mushy mashed potatoes. It is warming up out there. I'm excited. 22 is warm. We're gonna have to see if Sally will start in a little bit. How the shelf's going? Good. What's your plan? Get them put on. Finish this one, just get it done. Finish the one side. Yeah. Okay. Onion. Got the onions done and I cleaned up in between. I'm cleaning up as I go. It's cooking time. First up, some tallow from the land. Just rendered this the other day. Sauté the onions first. I'm gonna have to guesstimate this. I want to time this right with the potatoes. The onions need to be a little bit ahead of the potatoes. Butter. I think a side of fried cabbage would be good with this. Good seasonal green. Not the only one I like. We're seeing some browning. All right, all right, I did it good. I did it good. All right, all right. Okay, we're browning. All right, we need more oil here on the Burn It Up Cooking Show. Here we go. Okay, I'm gonna turn it again and we're gonna add the— we're gonna add the meat because it's got to get heated up. So that's the majority of the dish, I think it is. I'm nailing it, I'm nailing it. A little bit of pepper. I'm calling it. Just keep it warm. I feel like some Parmesan on this. Is that off? Oh, I can't wait to show Mom this meal. Boy, we made something out of nothing. What's that? You're eating the ends. That's okay. Is it okay? I got this out. Thank you. Well, that's a good— you think that'll work? 1,900? Shoot, I forgot eggs. I forgot eggs, Becky. Hold on. Surprise, surprise, surprise, surprise. Oh, that looks delicious. Don't I nail that? Very excited. First try. Parmesan works. Okay, let's do some Parmesan on it. Get it melted on it. Where'd it go? Where'd the cheese go? Get me the— get me the container of cheese. I must have put it away, or somebody did. Bed of cabbage. Is it light, guys? It's really good. Just know this is what motivated me to cook this. One less meal we'll eat together. Not the last meal, less. Why are you lying? I always get on a kick. I try to get on motivational kicks. Is that okay? One less meal. That's where it's at. I cannot believe what we're in the process of right now. Looks like Harriet may be in labor. Hope she's up. She's having her freaking baby. Jeez, coldest day of the year. I knew she was having that baby. All right, let's, let's, uh, let's get Vanilla out of there. I see a bubble coming out of her. Okay, I'd much rather her have the baby on the deep bedding, so we're gonna do a We're gonna do a flip. Get Minnie out of here. Minnie doesn't need to go in. Come on, Harriet, you're on your way. Come on, let's go have this baby. Gosh, why won't she go back in there? There we go. Let's stay in there. Why do you want to come out here in the snow? But she's a heifer, she has no idea what's happening to her right now. She's never had a baby. See, Harriet's about out of water. She's got She's seeing hooves. Holy moly. I don't have the bucket. There it is. When she realized it was a calf, that was a funny reaction. Her eyes got wide. Oh, she's done. See if Sally starts now. Fires right up. I've got to do this. Guys, it's too exciting. Harriet having her first calf, we've got to have its own video. That, that— I'll share that with you guys tomorrow. In the meantime, the farm battle against this winter storm is not over. We've got afternoon chores. Hopefully we don't have any more surprises like the side-by-side incident. Whoa! That was solid ice. That's good, they're done. Okay, how's he? Good. All right, animals are happy. You happy, Josiah? I'm happy. Happy day.
