We Called the Midwives! THIS IS IT.

Becky's having contractions four strong ones in ten minutes, then spacing to five to ten minutes apart. The family keeps doing farm chores while they wait and finally call the midwife at 9:30 am to check if the baby's head is there.

Holy cow, that one was really bad. It's really bad.
They're getting powerful. All right, Becky, we should probably call them. Hey, Jonah, am I seeing this right? Yeah, Flossie's in the creek. I don't see where they would have gotten out. Where— and where's Stud?
I think it's that gate. Oh, she's peeing in the creek.
Okay, so you think maybe they got out the gate and it got back shut? Yeah, I can see the poop right there because I don't see any Oh, there's the fence. The fence is down. The fence is down over in the corner.
But there's no way down into there from that little spot right there.
Yeah, but they walked around, honey. Slept in mega this morning because this one kept waking us up.
Well, not me.
Little baby Snowball.
Snowball kept waking me up.
We about called the— 11 PM. Good thing we didn't, because telling me, hey, I want out.
And I was thinking, well, if you want out this bad in the middle of the night, I guess we'll let you.
Yeah.
But then he stopped.
Alright.
I'd have like 4 contractions, like good ones, like where it was serious. So I would change positions to see if that either sped them up or slowed them down, and it seemed to slow them down. So I'd just get back in bed and go back to sleep for 2 more hours, and then I'd have another hard contraction that woke me up. That was pain— I mean, like, they're— I don't wanna say painful, but they're doing something. Like, I can feel them doing things in my body.
Powerful.
Powerful. Powerful is a good word. And so I'd wake up and then I'd wake up, I'd have another one, and then I'd wake up Justin and be like, I don't know. But we did do laundry at like 5:00 a.m. I got some stuff done. I was like, if I'm gonna be standing up, to see if this is speeding it up, because they were like 10 minutes apart. So I would have it, then 10 minutes, and then I'd have another one, then 10 minutes, and then I have another one. So then I think, okay, well, if we get up and it speeds it up, then this may be labor. But the first time at 11 PM, they were right on. I had 4 within 10 minutes, hard ones, and that's what made me go, oh boy. And then nothing.
Gideon, are you gonna come with?
Uh-huh.
Where are you gonna get dressed?
Uh, yeah.
Okay, go get dressed. Mr. Brown wants to go today because we're painting. Everybody's excited about painting the pretty shawl. Why are you guys so excited about that? Let's go see what's happened to these cows. Well, that was easy. Super anti-dramatic. Uh-oh, corn! She's trying to get our corn. There we go. What happened, Arun, do you think? I think who did chores later afternoon forgot to do it. I didn't go—
I didn't even touch that gate.
I didn't even touch that gate because they were playing all over here. So maybe— so the gate in the back was unlocked? Unlocked. Yeah. All right. How are they doing, Jenna? Are they done? One day they're done. This is what happened when you do 5. Okay, you are almost done. I mean, we We could— we could do— let's do one more day and then that's it. The chickens would have prepped all our raised beds. It's ready. Well, we probably should have taped— we need to tape the roof. Oh, we did. Oh, good job. Okay, cool. Maybe not that side. So we have some few, few tape jobs to do. How's the water look, Josiah? Still clear? Yeah. Okay, maybe our lids will— I don't know, keep it a little more airtight. I guess that air would encourage that algae growth. I see Stud Muffin had a good old time. Look. Okay, this is a good example. Look how they've pugged up this yard. Okay, next to the Cummins. That's one reason why we keep them in the deep bedding in the winter, because of what you call pugging. They're just compacting the soil, and they'd be doing that in our pasture and tearing it up. We're giving the pastures a rest and capturing all those nutrients, urine and manure. Beck, I'm gonna go milk. You need anything? You got dressed? Are you having a contraction right now? Okay. All right, the midwife's coming. Midwife's coming today. What time?
9:30.
I mean, just for a regular checkup.
Yeah, just my weekly.
Did you tell her to bring her stuff just in case?
Well, I told her what's happening, but I'm just not convinced. I don't think I'll be convinced until I see a head and they'll be like, I'm having a baby.
Oh, get the camera, Jess.
Now the baby is coming. When the head is— when the head is between my legs, they'll be like, oh, we're having a baby, everyone. I'm sure I'll be that calm too.
All right, looks like they're about to milk. I better go help them. We are going to milk Phyllis in the pole barn today. We're going to try it. Wish us luck. Well, she put her head in here and Jonah's like, why don't we milk in here? The reason we weren't milking her here is because she was moving around and it was good to have her against the wall. But maybe she's not moving around anymore because we fixed her teeth. She moved around so much in the cleaning. I'm not gonna risk it. Let's put her in the corner. Uh, let's put her in the corner, and hopefully that's enough to keep her somewhat still. It worked! She stood still like a charm. You still got alfalfa left. Thank you for letting me milk you so easy. We'll put Polly on, get some more milk down, then milk. We're gonna paint right after milking. This is nice of you, you brushing her down. Yeah, thank you very much. That was much more bearable. Definitely worth putting the buttercream on because even though we have to keep the calf off for another hour, her teats are smooth. They're not crackly, they're not dry. And it healed up the scan. Well, that's a good idea, blow it off.
It's almost out of battery though.
All right, what do we have? We have 2 trays, just 2 trays. We got rollers. Okay, so Gideon, yours is big. That means you have to do the big areas. Okay, let me see. Yes, you do that big area like that. Lily can do the little areas. Arun and I will get around the trim. Okay, Arun, the rooftop and the trims. Brushes. You and I are on brushes, they're on rollers. I wasn't thinking about primer. We do have primer. We could have primed the whole thing. We didn't have to tape it, but that would have saved us some steps. But when we untape it, I guess we'll prime the trim and then paint that. Oh my, they're excited now. I hope this lasts. Yes, primer is everywhere. We could even put it on the trim. Gideon, you're getting with it, my man. That, that took a lot shorter than I thought. We were running low on prime. We still got to prime the trim, so we kind of held back. We'll probably have plenty of white paint, so we'll just do more layers if we need to with that. Overall looks good. Looks like maybe we missed this with the brush in that crack. Maybe we can get that with the white paint. I think this is turning out to be quite the pretty shawl. What do y'all think? Says it needs 4 hours to dry, so maybe this afternoon, uh, we'll paint it. Happy contraction. Bless your heart. We're starting to track them. Midwives are gone and it starts up. Might be calling them right back.
She said she was turning around.
Is she really?
No, she said that she might just be turning around.
Yeah, she thought she might. She did think that you would be ready sooner than later. Baby's healthy.
Yeah, everything. All of my stuff was really good, um, like all of the things that they track.
You still in it? Don't worry about talking. All right, that was a minute. You're looking at 4 to 5 minutes apart right now, but this has kind of been the trend, you know. You have a few close together and then—
yeah, she said don't track it for a whole hour. But track it for a little bit and then let her know.
Okay, okay. This could be it. Beautiful day to have a baby, Becky. Blue skies, warm outside, not a cloud in the sky. Oh, the light's fabulous. Come on. Are you going at it again?
No, I'm just sitting here.
Lighting would be fabulous. All right, get nourished up.
Thank you, Giddy.
Let's do this. It's after lunch. Hey, are you nesting?
I'm just trying to get stuff done.
You feel like it's imminent?
I do. I do feel like maybe this is gonna go somewhere, and I don't have to see ahead to make it happen.
Oh, it's gonna give you some warning.
Yes, I hope so.
So are you having a contraction right now?
No, you're breathing tired because I need to lay down. I need to—
bless you. All right, you want me to do this? You lay down.
Yeah, that would be the end of the world. You could maybe hang it all up.
Sure.
Holy cow, that one was really bad. It's really bad.
They're getting powerful. All right, Becky, we should probably call them. Yeah, let's call them. Wow. Okay, why don't you rest? Let's touch base with them. I'll fold these clothes. Okay. Get resting. Okay, she got through that one though. 5 minutes apart, getting a little more intense. Come on, Beck, it's a beautiful day, midday. Let's do this. Let's get him out here in a couple of hours. All right, now rest. I'm gonna have to pull you away. All right, she ended up having some heavy contractions during that time lapse. We went ahead and called the midwife. We're going with it. Feel like it? It's in your gut, Beck, this time.
Oh yeah, these are so intense.
I'm gonna wrap up this vlog. I'm getting it to Dan, who's gonna edit this for us at Grass-Foot Homestead. Thank you, Dan. Um, if this happens, hopefully we still know what happens will be the next video. So I don't know if I'll be able to post right away, next day, we'll see. I'll update you guys. There's a tab called Community on my YouTube channel. If you click on that tab, I'll post there, and that's where I can give you news without giving you a video. Look, look, a woman in labor. This is what it looks like just hours before a beautiful, healthy baby boy is born.
