We Flew a Helicopter Over Mountains

Victor Justin Rhodes takes his family on a helicopter ride over mountains after a morning of mountain biking and breakfast burritos. The vlog captures the flight, then returns home to everyday chaos: septic work, potty training, and moving wood.

Last night in the truck. How was it? Good. That's our morning view. You gonna miss it? You ready to go home? Last hurrah. We're gonna go in a helicopter. That's kind of crazy to think we're gonna be in the air over this. We've got a lot of time until then, so we're gonna just brunch it up. Tell them what we're having, my man. Uh, breakfast burritos. Still got room though? You just had a granola cereal. What are you, a hobbit? You gonna eat second breakfast? We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast? But before we do that, I had so much fun on biking. I'm thinking that's something me and the boys could do once a month. I'll put 2 on that. I still have some points at REI and some tips from Joe, our guide yesterday on mountain biking, on what to get. Plus, we're doing this bike to pizza thing for the boys' channel like next week. We could use a, an adult bike to help in the filming of that adventure. Have you ever rode in a helicopter? Uh, yes. Once my dad got us a helicopter rental, we flew over the Grand Canyon. That was pretty wild. And then another time there was a doctor that lived on top of Bearwallow and he took us in a helicopter ride all over Hooper's Creek. Are you excited? Yeah. Are you nervous? Not really. I'm a little nervous, but I am 44 years old and you're Josiah Reepicheep Rhodes. Reepicheep because he's fearless. You afraid of anything? Mm-hmm. What? I don't know. Are you afraid when Jonah drives? A little bit. Would you be afraid to go to the pigs by yourself at night out in the forest? Yeah. Okay. You know, before we go buying a mountain bike though, we need to clear up a beautiful look. And I hope none of these are rotten. I feel like that last one's a little sus. Yeah, rotten egg's a rotten egg, and you definitely smell it. There's like no doubts about it. So I guess we're good. On today's episode of Burn It Up Cooking Show, bacon— I'm bacon— in eggs. Actually need to cut this bacon in half. Or into bits. We're gonna need pretty heavy bacon because I realized homegrown bacon comes in pound packages, not like little half-pound packages. Vitamin P, as Joe calls it. Josiah, we gotta add some vitamin P to our eggs this morning. That's magic. I'm telling you, she's easy to cook for these two bachelors. Josiah, how many burritos you want? It's hard to beat olive oil for frying tortillas in. I'm so nervous about the helicopter ride. Hopefully I can eat what I need to eat. I think I'll be able to down it. Burrito number 2. I think I'm pushing through just fine, and I'll probably skip lunch. What about elevenses? Lunches? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he? We're gonna leave as soon as we back up. This is all that stands between us And I'm out biking a helicopter ride, dude. Before we go to REI, we really should check in with Mom and make sure that it's okay that we buy a bike. It's okay that we go biking once a month. Might not be the best time to ask when she's home alone with 2 kids. Hey there, what you doing? We're just coming out of the woods. You're potty training Henry. We really got things under control. He's sitting on the toilet. Has he, has he made one pee or one poop in the toilet yet? He's peed 3 times. What? What? You pee? Okay, we got a question for you. This is why we're out of the woods. Okay, we had so much fun mountain biking, right? And we need to get a bike to follow them to pizza. Okay, so we're wondering if we should spend the rest of that money, REI money, getting me Please, please, please, please, please! Maybe once a month we could get Austin and Ashley down here or something, and we could go riding in Pisgah with the boys. That's fine. All right. Straight to the bikes, Josiah. We're biking once a month? Yeah. In Pisgah? Yeah. I like the hardtail, flat pedal, and the single gear up front. Yeah, the Habit hardtail right here is going to be a similar bike. Okay. So fairly aggressive geometry, the 1x drivetrain. That one's like $50 cheaper, and actually I kind of like the build a little bit better on the Co-op. But they're very capable hardtail bikes, so there's no trails or anything, but you can take it out, there's some parking lots and stuff, you can cruise around, make sure at least like fit was good. Yeah, just say let's compare it to this one. Which one's lighter? Which one's heavier? Feels about the same. Yeah, Cannondale has the good name, but he's saying the gears, Shimano, are on the Co-op, and the brakes are better too. So 15 years ago it was all the same brand, now they're mixing, matching brands from different things. That's not too big for you? All right. Next up, helicopter ride. We have like an hour and 15 minutes. I'm going to see if we can— there's not an earlier flight. At this point, we, we're just excited to get home. We're running early. Is there any way we can get on earlier? Uh, sure. Are you from here? So yeah, each week number? Yeah, Fletcher. Okay, cool. How long you been flying? About 4 years. And why helicopters? They're cooler. I guess it can't even be worse than that, huh? Oh my word, it's so tight. So always want to know, because the helicopter weight is now nothing on, nothing turning. Getting in here, the doors, I have them for you, um, so please don't touch the doors getting in or out. Inside leg in, grab this bar. Please don't grab on the door and use that as leverage getting in or out, okay? Grab the bar there. I can see my house from here. That was fun. Maybe that was his highlight of the trip. Is that the highlight of your trip? Yeah. Hey, so how was it for you? It was fun. Oh man, I was scared to death. I was ready to be home. I was ready to land. Not one inkling of fear? No. All right, I like it, I like it. Well, let's get home to the family. Home sweet home. It's gonna be a hair awkward because I'm gonna need to check in with the soil scientists about our septic tanks. We are pretty much at a standstill. Doors are looking good. Good to see our roof back together over our garage and waterproofed. Decking going right there. Being a soil scientist. I'm glad we were able to get the helicopter early because now I can be a part of this. Randolph's taking care of them though. Hey Steve, Randolph taking good care of you? It's been placed in the ground, or do I know where? Yes, I can— you have it? The man who knew is dead. So there's going to be total 3 bedrooms. And then we have a separate tank up top, and then down here. Did Randolph show you there's one up top? Yeah, gotta dig to try and find the drain. Oh, all right, we're just bringing the Mini X out. Hey, you found it! Polystyrene. All right, so yep, there we go. So is that all you need? Well, I know what type of drain fill is. This is the top of the netting with that— not come that up, but we definitely found it. So hey, Hey, I'm back! Looking good from this angle. You're just looking for watery and you got a watery. Looks like we're good to go there. Lord willing, the creek don't rise, we'll be cleared on the septic early next week. Look who's back! It's so anticlimactic for me, huh? Give me a hug. Hey, come here! I'm back! Hey, oh, you— I see you having a shopping spree. I made a bunch of money. Oh, wood and string jammed and potty training. I could tell Jonah's been hard at work. He's got a few surprises for me. You got our wood totes going? Heck yeah! Have you been able to move them yet? Yeah, I moved them from down there in Africa. They move all right? Yeah, they move great. Heck yeah! I made this piece of spawn so you can just pull them off the sides. So it's working. See, look, these IBC totes. I mean, if we have to, we can do an opening, but we can try it. He doesn't want to do the opening. It would compromise it. And when you're moving it, if it bounces at all, yeah, all fly out. We're all back together again. We're walking out in the pool. What kind of day? Potty training, cleaning, cooking. Wow, comfortable. You were coming home, so you're gonna have fried mozzarella. I wanted to celebrate you coming home, but I also didn't want you to come home to a disgusting home. It's very relaxing. Thank you.
