We Got 100 More Chickens Before It’s Too Late

In this farm‑vlog, the host (Speaker A) and several family members coordinate a busy day of farm work centered around the arrival of 100 new chicks from McMurray Hatchery. The video walks through preparing a deep‑bedding compost bed and inoculating it, setting up two hover brooders, sprinkling dry shavings, and getting water and grit ready for the chicks. While waiting for the shipment (tracking number provided), the crew moves existing livestock—cows, pigs, and turkeys—through a “sacrifice area” to rotate pasture, feed hay, and collect manure for soil health. They also discuss upcoming member registration for their farm community, plan future infrastructure (turkey and chicken shaws, greenhouse tables, seed trays), and handle routine tasks like milking cows and cleaning. Mid‑video, they unpack a delivery from US Wellness Meats, showcasing grass‑fed lamb, bison, elk, and other specialty meats, and mention an affiliate link in the description. Throughout, the tone is informal, conversational, and enthusiastic, with occasional humor and family banter. The vlog serves both as a practical walkthrough of large‑scale chick onboarding and a snapshot of daily farm life, emphasizing food security, sustainable livestock rotation, and community engagement.

Hey, Lily, they haven't called us yet.
Are you cold?
Are you excited?
No, no.
She's done, got the truck started.
But you said— but they said— Gideon said they're coming too.
They're supposed to come today. Our 100 chicks are supposed to come today. Should I go track them? They did give us a tracking number. Let's do our chores real quick. And maybe they'll call while we're doing our chores. Plus, there's one thing I want to do to get ready for them. I didn't expect to get chicks, let alone 100 more chicks. All right, let's put them in this side. Do you get in? But this needs turned. I need you to spray it down while I turn it. We need to activate this bed and get it decompositioning. Okay. Boom! Hopefully— I wish I'd have done this a little earlier, give it time to heat up. Hopefully that will inoculate this thing and bring the microbial life, getting it warm, letting it be a nice warm base plate for these guys. All right, we talked with our friends at McMurray Hatchery. We're getting more chickens, we're getting more meat chickens. 200, not enough when you give away so many, and You eat— we're eating like 5 a week now. We got the upper field chores. These kids are ready to go. I'm kind of excited. You guys are still excited? Last, last batch of chicks. I have to remember to put Sally under the shed or this happens.
Oh yeah, I can see.
Just having here a room. Arun, will you wipe that down for us? Over here, mostly. Yeah, funny.
Hi.
There we go. All right, the cows have been in this sacrifice area a week now. We've gone up this side. I think we'll start going down that side. We put the chickens in two nets hoping that they would have a little more room and not have— they wouldn't put as much pressure on the fence for them to get out. Let's move the chickens up. We could actually use the same nets. We'll just move the chickens up and then do the nets. All right, we've got the chicks out. Lily's feeding them. Mom just called up. Did you guys hear her? Yeah, the chicks are here! Daily water move for the cows. They are getting antsy in here after a week. They're not used to having to be in one place a long time. We're giving our grass a bit of a rest. We were moving too fast. That's good. So we have them in the sacrifice area, place that needs more nutrients. Feeding hay, they're getting the hay, the land's getting hay nutrients, it's getting the manure nutrients, it's getting the chicken nutrients. So we're gonna take advantage of the situation, turn it into something positive. All right, you guys. I feel like we need to do the pigs and then we can go get the chickens. All right, we're getting the turkey shaw out of the field. Good news, Jason, my buddy, Southern Land, he's actually a professional cab plan drawer previous days. I'm gonna get him to draw a plan, plans for this thing. It worked. We're gonna put it in our member area. Okay, let's turn this around. Do you think— no wonder you can't pull this up that You want to push it like this around?
Oh, I should have emptied it and then just loaded it.
Yeah.
Oh wow, it's because of the turkey, the turkey feed.
So I'm putting my plans for the turkey shaw, the meat shaw, the chick shaws, the greenhouse tables, the green, the green, the seed block starter trays. You know, it's, it's about that time people are starting to ask, hey, when's member registration open again? Fall registration coming up, coming up early September. Stay tuned. Yeah, nice! I thought we were gonna have to move them. Jonah and Josiah moved them. Look how well they killed that. Ready for seed. All right, we got these fat pigs fed. It's time to get pigs with feathers, sea monsters, Cornish Cross meat chickens. Hey, darling! We're gonna go get the chicks. Do you think you can start magic water if I get it?
Yeah.
Jonah, did you get my brooder ready? Yeah. Did you sprinkle— let's sprinkle some dry shavings on top.
I did.
Oh, you did? What about, uh, the hovers? Do you turn those on?
I turned one on because there's only 100.
We need 2 for 100, 50 in each. Cool. And you got them water and grit? I thought I was ready to go. Just one more thing to do.
All right, it's time to go.
A party is going on there. You got that? That's funny. I went to try to put it in that Suburban. Lily had to tell me it was the wrong car.
Yay!
I'll go as fast as I can legally. All right, we're home. Everybody want to grab a box? I doubt the deep bedding got inoculated. So quick. So I had Jonah put down some, uh, dry shavings. All right, Jonah, you want to hand them up to them? You guys dip their beaks and then put them there under the— hey, just get in. You could put the feet in, or is the feet in your way? You just want to put it in later? Look at that. Here we go again. This is when we thought we were going to get some rest.
They're already just drinking on their own and they hop in it because it's warm.
Look, Jonah's right, they do jump in to get warm, but soon they'll figure out there's a heat lamp over there, there's hover brooders over here, they'll be just fine. Put heat lamp over their food to encourage them to get out and eat. Yeah, that's good, they like it, they want to get warm. All right, y'all got this. I'm gonna go get milk and splash. Jonah, I wonder if you ought to leave them to it and you go get the cows, and I'll go get the milk and splash. Can you guys finish? Yeah, Jonah leaves. I guess we're like, you know, Everybody else is tucking in their garden, everybody's putting away their chickens. We still going, we still going, we're still going. I guess we still gotta eat. Well, Beck, I got you 100 more of these things. Food security right there, baby. You feeling a little better?
Very happy.
Yeah. Hey, how's Grandma? Saw Big Daddy drive by.
Grandma, uh, I talked to her on the phone. Yeah, and she's doing good. They were gonna get her out of bed at 9 to walk for the first time What? Yes.
Is that what big daddy was doing?
I don't know. No, I think big daddy's just missing Grandma.
Going out to eat?
No, I think he was gonna go see her.
Oh.
She told him to bring him coffee.
Oh.
So I don't think I'm gonna get to go because I think, I think dad needs all the visits he can get.
Aww.
They are all together together all the time. So I don't think—
like me and you. Yeah, so excited.
Look, I'm putting pizza over me.
I see that. Well, that's great.
Trying to hit me in the head.
There she is. She's adorable.
Try to pull her hair.
She's a fighter though, isn't she? Very much. You don't go anywhere automatically. You don't go anywhere without a fight. You don't go anywhere without a fight. You're a good cow, Polly. You're a good cow. You're a good one. You're a good one. We need to pull your hairs right now. Yeah, we need to pull her hairs. Let's do it. Okay, this is crazy. I just took Flossie's milk up. Jonah just— or Jonah and Lily started milking Phyllis. They're at 3 gallons. We're at 3 gallons. Miss Thing, let's see if I can get any more out of her. Should we put the calf on and get more? Probably. Yeah, you guys milked her good. All right, Rebecca, you want to pull her tail— or her tail feathers? I keep saying tail feathers. Tail hairs.
I don't really want to, but yeah.
You want me to? This is to test if she's A2A2, which means your milk will be a little easier that day.
Jess, you do it.
Okay, how many do I want?
20 to 30. Goodness.
Well, you probably don't want to get 20 or 30 at once. Yeah, no.
Oh, did you get any?
Nope. One. Come here. The tusk is what you want, right? Yeah, the little, uh, the little boogers at the end of it.
It's hard.
It is. I'm not getting it.
You might need to wait for 2?
It's 2. It's gonna take a while. There you go. That's a bunch. That's how you do it? Yep. You just tape in a, uh, yep, the roots go there. And all right, nice. And how long would it take? A couple weeks?
Yeah, a lot.
So you cook those, cook the eggs. We've got our— oh man. Josiah put— we've got grounded hamburger in there, we've got steak and bacon in there. You're gonna love this. Uh, that's leftover Mexican from last night. So this is like huevos rancheros. Wow, did it just come? Yeah, okay. Wow, you'd ask— wellness meats order came. Grass-fed lamb, bison, and elk. We jammed it in here. In between things. Although that didn't feel like it was shut. All kinds of stuff. Oh look, elk patties, pre-made hamburger. We got bison— we set the bison patties out to thaw. We got a bison ribeye right here. I'm excited about that. 100% grass-fed lamb, grass-finished lamb. That's very hard to find, but thanks to US Wellness Meats, we found it. Wow. So I just mentioned US Wellness Meats just casually in my, uh, One of my last videos, 1,000 of you guys clicked over. But anyway, I'm gonna put another link to them. You guys like them so much. It's down in the description. We are now affiliates, so thank you. Thank you for checking that out and supporting us in that way. Appreciate it very much.
