WE MOVED… TO a (tiny) CABIN

Victor Justin Rhodes and his family move from their larger house into a tiny cabin they plan to remodel. They figure out how to fit their furniture and appliances into the compact space, converting bedrooms into a kitchen and dining area, and wrestling with what to keep and what to cut.

It is moving day. We are going out of the Hodler house and into the cabin, getting ready for this remodel. Farmhouse becomes the milk room now. It'll officially be out of our house for the day. You guys excited? Yeah. What are you excited about, Josiah?
Well, getting out of it.
Calf's 2 days old. You're good, you're good. Have some mercy on me, Vanilla. The movers will be here as early as 20 minutes. Nope, she's not gonna have mercy.
Keep absolutely still.
Thank you, Vanilla. You got a good mom, Chocolate, sitting there staying warm. You like that, huh? Cutest thing. I did it, Josie. Oh boy, mover truck's right here. I was just about to process the milk.
I'll process it.
Okay, let's see what we got here. We could seal these boxes if you need us to. This all goes to the cabin. You put in specific rooms, like, do you need somebody over there showing you where to put stuff?
So it doesn't need to go to specific rooms?
It would help.
Okay, first to go there one time and show us what room is what.
Okay, plan is taking the couches or taking the furniture picture. So all these boxes don't get in the way over there. That's pretty smart. These guys are very nice, big, strong Arnold Schwarzenegger kind of guys. This is good.
You back on the electric bike?
How many kids get to do that, Josiah? Going back to your bedroom. I spilled some paint. I don't care about it on the floor, but you got on that rug, and this ain't any rug. This is a hide from the farm. I could see if it dapple up. Am I going to get really lucky? Nope. I'm going to get really unlucky.
This one.
I thought this one.
Can't pick out a date.
Yeah.
Okay, it's fine. We have a lot of furniture. We have a lot of furniture for a small—
Not a problem. Not a problem.
Well, hopefully, but— and worst comes to worst, we get rid of this table and we buy just a square table. I need like a miscellaneous box that I'm just literally shoving things in. Hey, we got some boxes!
Yeah, cabinets going.
This is all going. Cabinets, cabinets. See anything that you know is trash, just trash it. You guys are so fast. Start sweeping this up.
Teamwork, teamwork. Yeah, okay, Lily, we got to load these toys.
You need one more?
Yeah, we need one more.
So are these nightstands going? Yes, sir. Your rocking chair going that's in here, babe?
Yes, the rocking chair.
Rocking chair goes. I'll get this cleared off.
This is going to be kitchen, and that bedroom's going to be the dining room, and then that—
our room's going to be—
bedrooms are going to be over here.
So are you adding on to it, or are you just—
no, we're just using the space that It's under the roof, and then we're gonna go downstairs with it too.
Nice, that's awesome.
Yeah, I'm very excited.
See how old that drop is too. Gideon, I really need you, buddy.
Come sweep in there.
Now these are all pretty good sweepers. We can get them to help us. When the gentlemen get back in here, can you ask them to take the coolers?
Oh boy, she's getting stuck.
Yeah, like, what is that?
That's awesome.
You want to show me what's wrong with the bunk bed? Is that the only one that's stripped? It's going.
It ain't.
This ain't spinning, Papa. This isn't spinning.
What is it? This metal's not. No, it's not.
No, it isn't.
With these channel locks. I'm getting it. Come on, let's go see the truck.
All right, watch it.
Home sweet home. It's a bit of a downsize. We've been in smaller since the bus and the Great American Farm Tour. Our stove's coming over, our fridge is going to replace this one. I believe we're putting another fridge right there. Somehow we've got to fit in our dining room kitchen stuff. Rebecca had this brought over, stainless steel table for extension of counter space. This is all the counter space that's in this thing. Half washer or full washer going there. The only bad Exactly, we do have a half bath. Boys get an upgrade. Plus they have a half bath.
Is that your sticker collection?
This truck's been to every single one of those places.
You move people from Nevada, New Mexico, about everywhere but Hawaii and Alaska.
Right here is gonna be that shelving that was to the left of the fridge. Justin's desk will go where this is so we can move it. Nobody's watching us and we're gonna do exactly what we want.
What about your bedroom stuff?
The white thing from my bedroom, our nightstands, we'll put the sauna in there. The bench is going to go on the porch.
Can I ride my bike in the house?
Yes, Josiah is going to ride his motorbike in here.
Yes, ma'am.
I would do a measurement real quick, like from here to here in the ceiling, but I'm sure if you actually disassemble it, you could probably reassemble it in here.
And Lily's room. So that's the first hanging thing right here.
Yep.
You know where that fridge is going?
Cuz we'll swap. I'm not sure where it's going.
We can ask them when we We're gonna have to move the table again.
And where would you like the table? Yeah, whatever you like.
Thank you so much.
1 o'clock. I don't know how we're doing. Honestly, I don't think we're gonna get it, but we'll see. These guys are hustlers. Let's get it down to what goes over the house and what goes to storage. It's all storage. Cabin and then cabin, and then the other boxes are storage over there. It's getting getting real in here. You guys hear that echo? Hang tight. Just saw he's already been doing donuts on his electric bike. Gonna get the dirt bike in here. How often do you get a chance to drive a dirt bike in the house? Well, that's different, isn't it, guys? A little bit of stuff left here. The true test is, can you get a dirt bike in here? Really? Really?
My bedroom. Is it fun? Yeah.
I'd say we had the clouds cleaned out. What do you say? Yeah. Problem is this cabin, the roof is small. Like, I can touch it. So this shelf is too tall. They say it's only an inch short. So what if we cut this whole leg off right here? I think you should cut it right there. All right, we'll go from one problem to the next. Yeah, I know. Bed couldn't fit in here, so you had to take apart—
the problem was it covered your screw holes, so they were screwed in this way. I have to take this off to take this off.
Goodness.
The rest of the screws that are left, I think there's only a couple, and they're just spinning, so they're not really doing anything.
You're gonna have to cut them. It's gonna be easy. You just take your saw along, cut.
Ben, you think we can lift this now?
So as far as the box together.
What's the plan with those?
Because it's gonna fill up pretty fast.
Not too many of them come over here.
Oh, there's not?
Okay.
Oh, this is the bottom?
Yeah. No, are you serious?
That's the top.
Oh, that's the bottom. Yeah, yeah, that's the bottom. So this needs to come up like that. How do you want to do it? You're the professional.
Yeah, let's get this.
Another problem?
Yeah.
Oh my gosh, I'm gonna stand up.
Well, that's the problem we're having out here. That's gonna have to be cut. Oh, so close.
There you go.
You might not even ever I noticed.
Getting near 5, the truck's getting empty. Are we rednecks or what? If we don't become minimalist after this, I swear we're gonna become minimalist. Nothing like moving to motivate you to get rid of junk. We were hoping to put a second fridge right in there. It'll fit sideways, but it's not gonna be able to open much. It's gonna hit right here.
Well, did we measure?
Because you're gonna have— you can't put it on that grate, right? Or can you? So my other idea is right here, but is this where we're gonna have our table?
This is where we were gonna have the table.
How far could this be pulled out? Or you could put a fridge back by the washer and dryer. We just have freezers somewhere else. Could we put in the boys' room? Better on this porch. You want to be rednecks, put it on the porch. I don't think there's a plug out here. Jonah, you want to sleep with the meat? Do we need this long, big of a table? We do if we're gonna have Grandma and Grandpa. So how far can this table pull out? Let's see. So could we move it out to eat like this, Rebecca, and then push it against the fridge when we're done? It'll be easier than going his room all the time. So we'll put the freezer in the washer and dryer and we'll put the other fridge right here. Come show me what you need. Just like Brianna said, make sure you have beds ready, dinner ready. Grandma's got dinner, so now we gotta get this bed.
This needs to be lifted up right here.
Okay, so if I lift it up, can you do it?
Yeah.
So if I get it up there, it holds— it holds itself up. That messed it up. Lily, you got your bed ready? Yeah, our bed's ready. Can we get the freezer in? Just ripped off this door. Yeah, really? That's impressive.
It's a good sound.
That means it's working. Made it. They're moving that with all that meat too.
Dang, did they know it was in there?
Yeah, they did. Look at this. Look what you've done.
I'm getting stuff done today. We're really tempting fate. Once I get that white thing uncovered, all this stuff goes in that. I might get Randolph to take down those shelves in our room and bring them over here, and then we'll have more space.
Where's the sauna going? That's the only place. That corner.
That corner is the only place that it can go.
That's a loaded table. It's a little tight getting today's Footage uploaded. Gideon, where are you going? What have you been into? He's been making tea. You like the new house? Little kids are so flexible. Hey, can you go shut that window over there? You know, it's kind of a cozy cabin. The heat and air condition works really good. It's a heat pump. Just hit the button. This feels good. Freezer full of meat right by the bedroom. Henry has passed out. Rebecca, this isn't as bad as I imagined.
Kind of cozy over here.
Having our stuff here makes it feel more like our place. And it's real now. We're remodeling, honey, because we ain't moving stuff back in without an immaculate homestead house over there.
