We Packed the Farm (into two Containers)

Victor Justin Rhodes and his family spend two weeks packing their entire farm into two storage containers before moving. They sort through dozens of stalls and barns, categorize everything for storage or sale, and repair a frozen water line while coordinating tasks among Rebecca, Josiah, Jonah, Lily, and helpers like Tractor Zach.

Short-term storage, long-term storage, fit hay that needs to go to the field, for sale, but wait, that should go to long-term storage, trash, everything in our house, 20 years of collection has to go this week. To the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump, to the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump. Dreading this room, the fence stall. Don't need a lot of this stuff, but it's hard to get rid of this stuff. And there are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 stalls inside, 11, 12, 13, 8 more, On the outside, 21 stalls. Hey, hello. Every single thing in there gonna have to go within 2 weeks. Beck, you ready for this?
Ready for what?
It was 9 o'clock.
Children woke me up.
I figured that. I got on to them. I was committed. I'm gonna give 2 hours every day this week to cleaning out.
And then Josiah came to me with the pigs' nose water is coming down the line.
Are you taking the dirt bike?
Yes.
Let's hope this is a quick fix. Water's barely coming off the mountain.
Hey, that's quick.
Maybe it was a little frozen this morning. I still feel like we need to have more oomph than we do. I bet the line is apart right up here, guys. Yep, there it is. There's our problem. I bet we pulled it. Oh, this was maybe not even ever clamped on. No, it was never clamped on. It wasn't? Oh, you got your torch? We figured it out. Let's check it now. Oh yeah. All right, you guys are in water. Angel. Let's go clean out this barn like crazy. Beck, I gotta get you to order these storage containers. I'm just piling stuff up else Okay, hopefully you can bring it today. And what are you gonna work on? Are you feeling okay? Yeah, she's having a bit of a spell this morning. What are you gonna do for going through things? Okay, good luck. Did I really just do that? Almost done with this stall. Even eggs, we gotta get the eggs out of here. One stall down. I actually think this stays the brooder stall. It has to. Look at the bulletproof brooder in here. But we can clean it up, right?
You think?
I think this will take 20 minutes. You're pooping in cow's water, so let's make it 25 minutes. What's going on? There's a chicken in here. Here, let's just start dumping broken things. I think we did that in like 10 minutes. Trash can full of junk. Look at that, dweeb. Any chance to drive the truck? Now he's going to move it out of the way. He's going to put some gravel down. 2 stalls down. Well, we got to let the steers out. Brooder stays brooder. Those 2 stalls will stay outdoor. We're going to have a lift in here to take supplies up, up top. It's going to be a storage area. I'm going to pass all these tools until the storage container gets here. I see what you're doing. You're going at the easiest stalls. Pull the truck right here and then haul it over. What do you think? You want to collapse the bed and get the truck warmed up? Jonah's begun. Is that all you got? That's just some leftovers. We'll have to order some more. You're not gonna make it. You got to get straighter. That's better.
Come on back.
How are we gonna get this shop cleaned up so we can actually walk out through here. You don't want me to do it. I think that's it. This all goes to long-term storage. I don't want to load it in the truck, unload it to the ground, and then put it in the container. I want to unload it from the truck into the container, so I kind of need to wait on the container. This is a big old piece of trash right here. No, this is when I wish our CBs worked. Mama, Mama, you really want to keep this sink? The worm room is to be no more. We've cleaned it out. What about your playroom? Should we try to wait with the container?
This is probably what, short-term storage?
I'm afraid I'm doing all the easy stalls first. We did get 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6— 6 stalls done today. The big stalls still lie ahead. Rebecca was able to get a hold of the containers. They're coming at about noon today. Concrete is here for our stairwell. Hey, how's it going in here? I don't know who's got the tougher job, me or you. The storage container, one of two. Then you gotta move that train. Putting blocks in there so that it can pick it back up when we're done.
Flip the washer and dryer and the sink so the sink will be on the wall.
She's got a meeting with the designer, hopefully the last one. I got big hopes and dreams today. Learned it from Darcy, you don't want to clean out too many rooms without getting rid of the stuff you pulled out of the room. I'm thinking we're gonna start with this shop. Let's be brutal here, leave what they might be using immediately and get everything else in boxes for storage. Josiah I've went through a lot of this stuff. Do we even have the charger for this anymore? Are you gonna need this? Are you gonna need a sander immediately? Are you gonna need this jigsaw immediately? It doesn't even have a blade. Pretty much have it narrowed down to go-kart stuff. Look at this go-kart they're building. Metal frame. We'll leave this for the last minute so they can keep on their wood projects. Hitting that table next. Well, that wasn't as bad as I thought. What are we gonna do with that bike though? Keep it. What's wrong with it? A wire came unconnected. It needs to go out to storage. The mower won't start and it's in our way. You got jumper cables? I do have cables in my truck. Let's hit this one more spot. We have about an hour. I think we could do one load to the storage. Do you want to drive it or me, Josiah? I'll drive it. Let's look at the progress. We cleaned up our shop. We cleaned up this area. We still lack this. This feels good though. This is a big part of it. These stalls are empty. The hallway is empty. I'm still dreading the fence stall. We got some material that's been pulled out of the room here, and I've been putting this off too long. Look at all these nets. Let's go. This one is ours to keep. Eventually we'll put an ice chest in here, a walk-in cooler. So let's put long-term storage in here for now. That's a wrap, and I feel real good about that. How the stairs look, guys, the back, uh, oh, the closet It doesn't touch. Oh no, nothing was done.
What do you mean nothing was done?
Oh, did you do something?
Cleaned out the boxes in the boys' room. I'm waiting for her to help.
Let me see. Oh, you did. Okay, sorry, I judged. You did quite a bit.
Goodwill. I just get kind of dizzy when I stand up.
We have this week. Can we get done this week and next week clearing out?
Friday too. We'll have Thursday and Friday. I didn't plan on getting sick.
Lily, your cake turned out great. Yeah, first white cake ever.
Yep.
Got a load of metal. Rhodes family tradition, something my dad used to do with me. One of the fun parts of this mission, my dad used to always go and get us a drink and a snack. That's a popular one. Drinks up next. You can get orange juice or Rebel or coconut water.
I think I'll get this.
Okay.
Yeah, I'll get a Rebel too. All right, can you get these and I'm gonna go get flowers for Mom?
Oh, good idea. It's a rare occasion, isn't it? Enjoy it while you can. How is it?
It's good.
Good.
I'm gonna have mine at home.
Yeah, that's probably a good idea. You and this truck and chocolate aren't gonna go good together. Do you see that crank? Hey, good afternoon, Tractor Zach. Everywhere. The verdict is in. We spent $41 on snacks. How much do you think we made at metal? $40? I'm a little surprised. $82. Can't leave Mama out.
Mom, I have something for you. Flowers. Thanks for the flowers.
You got your hood on in the bed? We're gonna have a separation of the men and the boys today because I'm not feeling well, but the cows don't care. I'm gonna cheat and ride Sally everywhere. The cows don't care if you're sick. It's the commitment we made when we got cows. I've milked 2 cows with broken arm for 6 weeks. Look, this was left open. The kids can do chores, but you got to fill in the gaps. How's that for service? How are we going to keep going on this clearing out? Like, I confirmed with the crew that's going to help us demo, they're on, they're on schedule. That's in about 2 and a half weeks. Putting in hay. We brought on Pete to help with the film work, take the YouTube channel to another level, but I'm sitting there milking and and he's like, well, if you need to go rest, I can keep knocking things out. Pete, you're a blessing. Pete to the rescue today. Are you camera shy? I guess. Does the cameraman like to normally be behind the camera? Is that obvious? Pete did a lot yesterday. Thank you, Pete. I'm back at it a little bit today. I'm attacking the dreaded vent stall. Hard because this is good stuff. This isn't my system anymore. We're using nets and Giveaway, sell, file, or short-term, long-term storage. Like, we don't need all these nets. We need to bless some people with these nets.
It's a new day. We're getting down to the wire. It is getting to be very close to moving time. Like, we're— it's not this week but next, so we gotta definitely get moving. The boys, I had them go through and box up more stuff. I think it may be all giveaway stuff. I think it's all stuff they don't want. Hopefully I'm gonna get through it today. Justin and I have a date this afternoon, so we had better get to it because I much need this date. We actually all got sick from me being sick last week. I guess it's been kind of a crazy week, and I'm feeling almost 100% better, which is great.
2 weeks as of yesterday, we've got to get everything out of here. I'm gonna have an anxiety attack. Josiah, I'll let you have this shop here, but you've got to have it tidy at all moments. 4 stalls cleared. 5 stalls cleared. Giveaway or sold. I forgot about this. Do not be alarmed by that. We've actually remedied that and taken care of that. That is now a stain. We did it! We knocked out this room.
Almost a week away. From move out. Holy cow. Okay, so we have my bedroom, which is a mess, because basically what has happened is as I've gone through this entire house, if I don't know what to do with it, I put it in my bedroom. This stuff right here is pretty much all Goodwill for the most part. I don't have a lot of stuff in the kitchen that I'm not using. I pretty much use everything in the kitchen at this point. I'm about to work in Lily's room. She's talking to one of her little girlfriends. I'm waiting for her to finish up that conversation and then I'm gonna get started. We've been distracted because this is our photos. We have our photo pile and so we've been looking. Do you guys want to see some photos? Here is Justin and I on our honeymoon. Here's Jonah, Justin and I. It's our wedding with my parents. Jonah as a baby. These are just some that were on top. So yeah, we are done. Mainly. I don't know how people move like 5 times in a short time.
A little over an hour today. This is all that's standing between me and getting done. I've been putting this off. So many stalls are done. That actually went pretty fast. We got that cleared. Long-term storage, short-term access. Pole barn. We're moving our barn that's been in our garage to the pole barn. This is up next. It looks like a lot, but a lot of it's bucket and quite easy to move if we put our buckets back shelf. We'll kind of get them towards the end. We can clear this out of the way and we can get you on the track loader to start coming home with some of these pallets over the pole barn. We did it! I cannot believe it. I'm a little tripped out. I'm a little sad. This was my barn for years. Josiah was like, didn't we just keep hay in here? We've kept hay in here, feed, minerals, four-wheelers.
Jake's in here.
Yeah, this was a very smart location for a barn. It was right downstairs. If you can put the barn in the garage— I really don't want to downsize. What do you mean?
A little shed over there?
Well, one thing is like, could we store the screen like mobile sheds out at the pigs? I think Mom said we could have one side of this. Becca got done out there. Now I can help you with this disaster. How do people move? It's terrible.
I don't know.
Well, we got all the farm into 2 containers. And it's done. Y'all want a tour? Hollywood stall is empty. I've walked through here many a times, guys. You've seen these tools lying in this hallway. What was this? The barrel stall's empty. Another empty one. Jonah, your shop though. Everything's got to be ready at a moment's notice to get out of here. No spill in a tidy shop. Here's the rule. Because you don't know when I'm going to call you and you're going to be done. When you come down here and before you work, have to clean it up. Oh, the metal stall accumulated a little more things that we missed. Oh, still got a sale or giveaway or something or another. This stall, freezer room empty. Tool room, nothing. This will be the commercial kitchen. We'll spend many a time here processing meat, making our own ground beef. Lily making her cakes. This is our new entrance. Uh-oh, you guys have to clean this out. Furnish room, boom.
