We Repelled a Waterfall / Father and Son Camping

The video is a first‑person vlog of a father (the narrator) and his son Josiah on a coming‑of‑age outdoor adventure. They begin the day after sleeping in the back of a truck, recounting forgotten gear and light‑hearted banter. With guide Joe, they tackle a steep rock face, learning climbing techniques, rope handling, and safety cues. After reaching the top they rappel back down, practicing rope control. The next segment is a waterfall rappel, during which they spot a rattlesnake, adding tension. The day ends with an unplanned detour to a large creek pothole where they enjoy cold plunges, a natural water slide, and a final jump, celebrating the spontaneity and fun of the experience. Throughout, the father reflects on Josiah’s growth, the bonding moments, and the lessons of responsibility, teamwork, and embracing nature. The tone is informal, enthusiastic, and instructional, with a mix of humor and genuine pride.
Chapters
How'd you sleep last night? We slept in the back of a truck under the stars and trees. Today our goal is to climb a real rock, rappel down said rock, and waterfall rappel. Josiah and I are on his coming-of-age trip. I'm a real boy! We're having manventures together. I forgot my raincoat. You forgot your raincoat? Did I forget mine? Yeah, boy. Uh, it'd probably be in the clothes, wouldn't it? They say you got to be wearing a raincoat. I think we're like rock climbing next to waterfalls. We are bonding in the woods. I can't believe how big he's gotten. Can y'all believe how big he's gotten? What happened to my little talking teddy bear? I'll remind him the next few days he can ask or tell me anything. You got anything you want to ask me? What do you do for a living? Lots of things. Where's your office? I don't have one. How come? I don't need one. Where's your wife? Don't have one. How do I clean this water bottle out? So you do have a question for me. Lastly, I want to make sure you know what it means to be a man. Do you know? I don't know. You don't know? I've told you like 3 times this trip already. Surfing? There you go. This morning when I really had to go to the bathroom, And it was looking like a rush. You said, hey, you can take my bag. That's being a servant. There you go. Take the dish rag and wipe it out, and then rinse it out with this water. Rubber spatula. There it is. Is that working? Yeah. Yes. Are we not finding the ham? Really? We did bring the ham. We forgot my raincoat. We forgot towels. We forgot pillows. In lieu of no bread for his ham sandwich, my idea is we do have tortillas. Now that does mean we're not going to have breakfast tortillas, but that's okay, right? We gotta pack our lunch for this expedition. Let's see that sandwich. We want a full review by the end of the day, okay? Okay. We just met our trail guide and we are on our way. We're going deeper and deeper into the forest, and our guide Joe, totally cool dude, and it's just Jessiah and I today. I'm telling you, we came at the right time, like after summer and before the fall rush. Like everybody wants to come and see the leaves. We got our supplies. Passes, thermos, helmets on. Okay. At first glance, this rock seemed really steep, huge, daunting. I guess we could do this. We seem to have a good guide, so we just had to put our trust in Joe. You ever been real rock climbing outside? Okay. Waiting on our guide to set up the ropes. Our goal today is to go all the way to the top of this thing. I suspect what we can see is only about half. You nervous? Not really. Uh-huh. I'm a little nervous. A little nervous. You're not gonna pull it out of the tunnel, are you? He's been setting the rope and he's almost down. If you guys kind of walk up this way with me, I'm gonna kind of demonstrate for you real quick. So don't be afraid to put your hand in this crack and use it like so. You see that? I am tied off. I made it to the midway mark. It's Josiah's turn now. Is that pretty easy, Josiah? Yeah. How was your first time rock climbing ever? Good. So how do you keep these ropes from tangling up? That's why I guys have you guys on opposite sides. I mean, it helps a bit. You ready to go? Yeah, I've made it to the top. It's Josiah's turn. Come on up! How about the view, huh? Yeah, the view is great up here, buddy. Just relaxed as can be. This is step 1 right now. We're body position. Wide feet, straight legs, weight back on our heels. There you go. Good work. Lean on that rope. Good. You're doing great. We made our goal. We got to the top. We're back to the midway point. Yeah, about to rappel. We're back to rappel. This is kind of a practice as well for the waterfall. Does that make sense to you? We're about to rappel a waterfall. Let that rope slide and walk backwards. You feel that? Awesome. Keep on going. All right, you're ready to go. Climbing was super fun. There was the climbing, and then he let us down, and then we rappelled. Which did you like better? Climbing. Definitely the climbing. It's a good workout. Lunchtime! Is it worth it? Mm-hmm. It's good? Good as a sandwich? Not quite. Pretty easy when you're carnivore, you just pack in a bag of cold burgers. Turns out the rock was very doable, thanks Joe, and a lot of fun. And now it's time to go do something I had never even heard of until this year. That's Waterfall rappelling. Next we're going waterfall rappelling. You can start to hear it. Here goes nothing. Rappelling down a waterfall. And waterfall rappelling was, I guess, almost exactly as I imagined it. Until Joe found a snake. You see where it is, right? Okay. Because if that snake falls, we don't want to be where it falls into. Does that make sense? Yeah. You saw it, huh? Yeah, I see it. I see that snake coming up the bank. What kind of snake is it? I think it's a rattlesnake. Trying to see if I can see his back tail. Okay, now water rappelling next to a snake Is that trump climbing or climbing still your favorite? The rock was fun to climb. Now what we do next was totally unplanned, not on the itinerary, but it ends up being the highlight of the day, if not this entire trip. We took a little break to refuel, and now we're gonna explore something we saw on our hike earlier with Joe. On the way up here, Joe pointed out what they call Pothole Creek, but these are not potholes like you imagine. Think 10 feet wide, 10 feet deep. That's a gigantic pothole. Should we get in that one? Ultimately, what should we maybe get under the waterfall? Okay, that'll be the grand finale. We'll get warmed up in these. These actually going to be cold plunging. Is there one down there? One, two, and then the waterfall. Look at this. This is all ours. You ain't got to worry about anybody else getting here. That was so fun. Love swimming when everybody else has gone home. Well, this is a slide. You want to do the slide? What? Go for it. That's got to be the funnest thing for me right there. That's fun. Yeah, nothing like cold and adventure to rejuvenate. Man, I feel good. You feel good? Yeah. There's one more spot right where we parked. You're gonna jump off this? Yeah. You've done this before? Yeah. How far is that? Is it deep enough? Yeah, I've done it before. Okay, safety first, kids. She's gonna go find the deep end. Maybe I should go down there too. Probably be a better angle. Jump way out to there. Go for it. You know you've had fun when you go to bed at 7:45 at night. We had a fun-filled day, didn't we? Good night.
