What does Justin Rhodes Do ALL day?

In this day‑in‑the‑life vlog, Justin Rhodes walks viewers through a typical 24‑hour cycle on his family farm, blending farm chores, family life, and the behind‑the‑scenes work of producing the "Rooted" documentary series and his Abundant Permaculture membership platform. The video opens at 6 am with morning routines (checking phones, caring for chickens and cows) and quickly moves into farm tasks such as milking, vacuuming, and managing a bathroom renovation and pole‑barn construction. Throughout the day Justin discusses the logistics of releasing the first episode of "Rooted," the surge of 5,000 shares, technical hiccups, and the decision to expand the series to a full season. He explains his productivity method of allocating limited time to prioritize the most important chores and business tasks. The vlog also reveals family dynamics: Rebecca’s early labor contractions, preparation of a diaper bag, and the anticipation of a new baby. Mid‑day, Justin shares his content‑creation workflow—editing videos, posting daily Instagram photos, creating TikTok verticals, and responding to premium member texts. He highlights health rituals such as a daily cold‑water plunge, Epsom‑salt bath, sauna session, and tracking sleep with Oura rings. The day ends with dinner, reading to the children, and winding down. Throughout, Justin promotes his member‑area bonus (a planner from Jill Winger) and encourages viewers to sign up before a limited‑time offer expires. The vlog interweaves practical farm management, creator entrepreneurship, family life, and wellness practices, offering a holistic picture of how Justin structures his day to balance multiple roles.
Chapters
6 AM, I wake up. Usually soon after we wake up, Little Bird or Mr. Brown get in the bed with us. Why you like getting into bed with us? Because it's warm. I usually sneak over here And cuddle with the mama because it's warm. Just kidding. And we usually get up about 6:30.
Yep.
Before we go out, I usually check the internet, check my texts for any like problems. Whoa, like 5,000 people shared our premiere of Rooted last night. 5,000 people have shared that thing. But there's somebody else having problems saying the replay of Rooted doesn't start until like the 4-minute mark. But we, we cut that off, or we set it up so— yeah, because there was like a countdown and then there was a little bit of technical difficulties. The response was so well to our premiere docu-series, the premiere of our docu-series episode 1, that I text the guy, uh, the director Ben. I said, looks like we're doing show number 2. And if we're doing show number 2, we're doing this 12 shows, an entire season. Yes! Now this is the part you always see. About 7:30 we go out and do chores. That'd be about 6:30 in the summer. Since you see that every other day, I won't show much of it here, but it is a big part of our day. A lot of folks ask, does the camera get in the way. To which I've had to conclude that the camera is the way. I've got to look at things different. I'm not out here milking a cow, I'm out here making a film about milking a cow. Perspective changes. You know, people also say, hey, why are you always in a hurry? Well, I gotta say this, you know, these music— these videos don't make themselves, as Art would call them. It's not a YouTube magic window. There's a lot that goes into making these happen and a lot of other content happening I found that when I give myself an allotted period of time for something, you end up prioritizing what's the most important. So what if you only have so much time for chores? What should you be focusing on? Uh, animals, vegetables, what kind? You only have so much time, you force yourself to focus. Same thing when I go inside and do business. I do the most important things first. I may have a long list of stuff I want to do, But if you only have, say, an hour to do a farm project, you're going to do the most important pressing farm project. Hey, why didn't you go this morning, my man? I forgot to round him up. I say it so he'll be with me. That's half of it. The other half is this gigantic Styrofoam mess you've made while I was gone. Hey, wait. Keep vacuuming. We gotta get it all up. Okay, you got something stuck in the vacuum?
Yeah.
Oh my, stuck in here? No, right here. Oh yeah, bring it here. See if we can't pinch it out with this. And then maybe don't use this, maybe just use the— oh my goodness, use that without this head. Oh my, piece of bubble wrap has gotten in there. Okay, good. I think I got it, Mr. Brown. But don't— you can't suck up any big pieces with this. Oh gosh, are you kidding me? All right, now try it. Is it working now? Stop getting the big stuff. You have to get the big stuff by hand. While I'm waiting for the milk to fall through, I usually catch up on texts. I got some texts here from my assistant updating me on the sales so far. We had a little bit of problems with this. We crashed it. Like, we broke the internet. She's working on that. Looks like we've gotten that fixed. Also just got a text from the guy who built our pole barn. He said to call him. He's also going to build our shed/butchering area. Hello? Hey Shane, Justin here. Hey, how are you? Good, how are you? He's coming to build that thing tomorrow. He just had to check with me on the height of it and stuff. He can use regular posts. It's not going to be as tall as the pole barn. Are you confused?
Yeah, but wasn't he— wasn't we supposed to use that solid?
Oh yeah, but he'll have to come back and do that later. We are gonna board the side of this, but it's not like he can do that in one day. Gideon! Gideon! There's still styrofoam everywhere. Can you get the bigger chunks, Jonah? I'll get him back out here vacuuming. Gideon, can you go get the, uh, styrofoam out? Oh, that's good news. I see the toilet in my future in here. You better believe it. Oh, good deal. We're gonna be flushing before the end of the day. Nice. And this is the part of my day where I check on the beautiful one, aka my baby's mama. No baby today?
Not yet.
What? What?
I mean, we have all day. That was some serious contractions, and then it was 9:15, so you've been having contractions since— I've had a— let's see, since I woke up Woke up at 5:30. I've probably had like 8 contractions maybe.
Yeah. What are you doing here?
I am, well, I'm cleaning up my mess that I just made. But I, um—
Is that a baby bag ready to go?
This is our diaper bag. I just, I got it. It came in the mail and then I am gonna go wash these, these last, these are the last of the clothes that I need to wash. Nice. I got some gowns. Because we like to use those at night. We got little farm ones. I want to see my baby daddy.
All right, little Mr. Snowball. I will greet this day with love in my heart.
I will greet this day with love in my heart.
Good mantra for you, buddy.
I know.
Now's the time that I do projects around the farm today. We're in a bathroom reno. I think we're a little behind on the trash. Let's take care of this, Josiah. Okay, well, that was embarrassing. Only a little bit left for the bathroom construction. A lot of bathroom construction trash and a lot of our trash, but we got it cleaned up. Now I've got a very small project to do. Let's, let's get on it. From our little pod project stacking up the wood the other day, we've got a little bit of divot from where the tractor was. Josiah, would you bring your hard rake over here? So it's going to straighten this up. I'm going to park the tractor out of the rain. Kids, come here! As much as I want to get started on business, we gotta clean up. I told everybody last night if they shared Rooted on Instagram, I would share them, and a bunch of people are taking that to heart. They're tagging us in it, and I told them Rebecca would go, oh, you having a contraction? She's having contractions. She's getting the business done.
Well, because I don't think these contractions— I mean, they're—
I think they are doing something because I can feel it, but What, what's entailed? So, so people are tagging us.
Yeah. And then I just go to the—
and you share it on my story message.
Yeah, like you go where people— because they tag you in their stories.
Yeah. And then I should have told them to go to the trailer that I posted on my Instagram and share that. Yeah. So I guess any future shows— look at you, it's getting that bad.
It's pretty painful.
Oh boy, we could be having a baby any day now.
I know, I feel like because we got through the premiere last night, I was like—
That was the hype. You've been having that.
I know, it was like, that was kind of a stressful thing of like, what are we gonna do? 'Cause we have this plan, it's hard to postpone it. And a lot of my friends said, I bet you're gonna have that baby. Actually, when I left the camera, some of them texted me. In the webinar, they thought I was going into labor. It was time.
Just listen for one second. Hear that? That's somebody signing up for the, for the premiere, for the Rooted premiere. Ding ding. It's like that all day long. Folks are so excited. So I've always wanted to do this. I'm going to set this up probably right here, and I'm going to set a time lapse. I've got to edit a little bit of a video just, just to announce the opening of our member area cart to get future episodes of Rooted. And I'm wondering if this would be cool, if I could set the camera up on a time-lapse while you guys watch me edit that. That might be super cool. Let's try. About noon, we eat lunch. Lunchtime! I figured out that if we eat just 2 meals a day, it's a lot easier. Sure, the kids eat a snack, Mom eats a snack early on. I intermittent fast, and it turns out to be pretty nice. And we eat every— pretty much every meal together, wouldn't you say? Sometimes after lunch I can come to the bedroom and check on the cows and sheep. Now I've committed to posting an Instagram photo a day, so that's one. I couldn't believe that Rebecca actually went into labor, and then what happened, I don't know. I guess every kid is different, but I think that'll be the Instagram post for the day. I also decided to post a video to TikTok every single day for a year and let's see what happens. So right now we're working hard on promoting Rooted, so why not? I made some verticals of the film and I'm putting it over on TikTok. One of the most important things I do is check member texts. For those premium members in my member area, they can actually text us, and me or Rebecca will answer them. We go through it once a day, get back to folks in 24 hours, specific problems I'll put it on a time-lapse and then let's highlight maybe one of the more interesting ones or relevant ones to you guys. I just wrapped up MemberTex. A lot of people just congratulating us on Rooted. Other people, there was a couple people moving to— moving, and they wanted me to look at the land, give them some feedback on that. That's kind of stuff you can't find on Mr. Google Pants, so it's going to help them inside my premium area. And by the way, that took a little longer than usual today. That's because A lot of members have signed up. We're at like 400 or something crazy. Something crazy. So we do only keep the premium level. I mean, we have to end up capping that because we only have so much time to adequately aunt and uncle the people. We don't want the live shows to get too big. We can't handle everything. We don't want to get the texts so much we can't get back to everyone. So I would encourage you to get that during New Year's registration till the 22nd. And then that is most likely going away until another launch. The other levels will be there but not premium. What do you have here, Lily?
Fish.
Here's my girl. And then I have 2 boys.
I got 3 fish.
2 boys and a girl? Yeah. That's how you can tell the girl's littler than the boy. Okay, are you starting your own breeding program already? Right off the bat? No. I might. Are they related? Are they the same?
They could breed. She doesn't want to deal with that.
So we got her her own fish. Because she's been working so hard. And, uh, this is something that she wanted. Yeah, just finished writing an email. Ironically, the one about this, what I do in a day. It's going out to my email list. It's 3 o'clock. That means it's afternoon chore time. But I just checked the waters, we put the calves up, and check the hay. I feel like you sometimes see afternoon chores, but they're kind of boring. But you know what I don't get to show you a lot? Is the kids do a lot in the afternoon, which is play, because I'm in there working. What are you guys doing?
Making a high park.
All right, let's see it.
Best way to get up is over there.
Okay. Hey, why is there hay falling down? We got to keep this hay out of the weather.
Oh yeah.
Oh, there's how they do it. Everybody got their boots off. This is our food's food, so we're keeping it clean. Just say, what do we got here, buddy?
A fort.
Okay, we got a hole right there. Do we go in there?
Yeah, just come through this way.
This way? What? Cool. Look at this. This is like— this is a boyhood dream right here. 600 hay bales under— in a pole barn.
It's a castle.
Fresh air. It is. Yeah. This is cool. You got seats. You got an escape.
Oh, this is the jail.
Oh, a jail. Okay, opposite of escape. Oh, there's the jail. Is that escape or is that a window?
Window.
Nice. Gideon just jumped out of it. Nice view of the creek there.
Hi.
Hi. Nice view of the animals.
Up here's a better one.
Nice. This is a cool view. Alright, good job guys. Play on. Kids are gonna go inside, check out the goldfish. I'm gonna go in and continue to work. Winter is a wonderful time to create. I'm working on a writing project. I just coordinated with the co-director of Rooted. We're meeting tomorrow. We're gonna have a photo shoot here tomorrow. We're gonna talk about episode 2 through 12. Planning out the entire year. I'll check emails. I've been sending out email blasts lately, and I like to respond to those, as many of those as we can. And then we'll eat supper. Then we eat at 5 o'clock, clean up, and then I read to the children. Two butterflies fluttered by. What a lovely flower, they said. And then we go about the nighttime routine. At 6:30, we brush the kids' teeth, and after that, we tuck the kids in for the night. Of course, we'll set them up a nice audiobook to listen to to wind down. About 7:30, it's, it's usually dark. I'm doing this in the light so you can see. I go get in the 40-ish degrees water, and for 3 minutes. The first 5-10 seconds is always the hardest. You never get used to it. This is always uncomfortable. It's 40 degrees outside. 42. The water's— the water's 42. Why do I do this? Well, this is called cold therapy, cryotherapy, cold exposure. This is good for the vascular system, blood flowing. It's, it's good for burning fat. It's good for your immune system, inflammation. That's what I'm telling myself as I sit in this cold. It's one of the healthiest, freest things you could do for yourself all day. Usually because it's night, we can see up and see some beautiful stars, and, uh, it could be, it could be quite peaceful. Do you get used to it? A little bit. You do get a little bit better. I don't think I'd be having this conversation with you the first time. No, the first time I did it I jumped in, I jumped out right away. I didn't know you're supposed to stay. You're supposed to stay in like 3 minutes for the full benefits. Benefits. 55 degrees, 3 minutes. Okay, 1 minute left. This is always— if I'm not watching a clock, this is always where I'm like, okay, how much longer? And it's always 1 more minute. So it's like there's something about the 2-minute mark. It may never be comfortable getting in. But it's always refreshing and so energizing when you get out. Yes, I go in my underwear. That's so I can go straight into the bath. Then I do an Epsom salt bath, a detox. Time to start winding down. I'd like to say I come in here, I post an Instagram post, I check out some business videos, or, you know, learn something, listen to a podcast. Sometimes I do that, but if I'm honest, I probably just get a little nonsense Scrolling— don't scroll much, but maybe this is my time for that. So I might watch YouTube trending or something like that. What does Roald Dahl say anyway? A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest of men. Around 8, I get in the sauna. It's totally good detox, totally good relaxing time before bed. I usually like to escape with a good book, usually a fiction, or in this case a nonfiction. Just Mercy, it's pretty good. Something that gets me away from my normal life and just gets me relaxed before bed. After the sauna, just a real quick normal shower. Then about 9, 9:15, we get in the bed, talk a little bit, and then honk our shoes. Well, I don't know. I don't honk. You do.
I sleep peacefully.
I don't really honk my shoes either.
I sleep very quietly and peaceful.
Who sleeps better, me or you?
You.
We got the Oura Rings. Who gets the better points every night? You.
But that's mainly because I'm pregnant. I think once I'm not pregnant— when I wasn't pregnant, I got good, better points.
Okay, so that is the parts of my day that you normally don't see. That little planner thing I was using, that, that's from Jill Winger's Old Fashioned On Purpose Planner. I'm actually giving that a bonus this week as you sign up for New Year's registration inside my Abundant Permaculture member area. You'll get the Rooted series that's coming that will be dripped out this year, learning library, access to us, discounts to different companies, things like that. Check that out. That's at the link down in the description or members.abundapermaculture.com. I'm filming this after the reenactment of the cold plunge. It's starting to get to me, and you're watching me, you're watching You're giving me pressure. Yeah, you're giving me pressure. So anyway, that's been one of the most— one of the bigger keys to our success is organizing our day and being very disciplined about it and including a lot of health practices. I think it takes time, I think it takes discipline, but I think it's worth it. Wouldn't you say?
Yeah, I mean, it's— I don't think we'd be doing it if we didn't believe in it. Yeah, and I look forward to getting back into some of those routines once we have the baby.
Guys, you get the digital version so you don't have to run it through a printer. You can just look up the page you want and print it out. Uh, that's going to be free. That's normally $17. That's free until Sunday, 11:59 PM. So check that out, link down in the description.
