What Happened AFTER our Big Animal Harvest

In this vlog, Victor Justin Rhodes and his family walk viewers through a busy day on their farm following a large animal harvest. The video opens with the team unloading pigs and a large bear-sized animal from a trailer, discussing loading logistics and timing. They then transition to milking duties, describing the schedule, the cows, and plans for pasture rotation around blueberry patches. The family builds and adjusts a new fence, using a “3‑prong” gate system to contain moose and sheep while protecting crops. Throughout the day, they share meals—sausages, chicken‑broccoli‑cheese, and a blueberry‑banana yogurt smoothie—while commenting on the novelty of sitting down to eat. The vlog also covers editing work that fell behind, the completion of several vlog episodes, and announces upcoming visits from Polyface Farm interns (Joe Salatin’s operation) slated for October. The tone is informal, conversational, and enthusiastic, with frequent family banter and occasional instructional remarks about farm practices.

You ready to unload this thing?
Yep.
Hopefully all goes well. We got 35 minutes till we need to leave. Put the back arrow on is easy enough. Now what you do— there more?
Come with a strap, didn't it?
Don't do anything but stabilize. I'm going to lower it down on this and then hopefully Let's make the truck convertible. Okay, we got all the pigs out. All we lack now—
look over there, I know, dork, he snuck in the house.
Okay, so the idea is to lift Bear out Hold on to that. Bear was a lot bigger than we thought.
That's a quarter, it's not even a half. So he was 18 months old.
Dang, I think he dressed up pretty good for a Jersey 18 months old.
Yeah, he totally did.
Are you gonna let me do that?
Well, I have a Hoss.
I know.
Well, I'll let you lift that carcass into the trailer then, huh? Okay, we got it loaded just in time. Well, a little late, 6:35. He's okay with us coming anytime, but we got to get back to milk, especially since we milked early yesterday. Rebecca is talking to Grandma. Boy, this Suburban has already come in handy so much. No more borrowing trucks. We got about an hour drive without a trailer, so it's probably gonna take us a little bit longer, but no worries. We got our '90s on 9XM radio.
Hey.
Ready for a '90s party?
Yeah.
There you are. You don't want to go with us? Oh, he's got his Apple banana headphones. You don't want to listen to '90s on 9 with us? He likes 2000 and— he'll like 2020. He'll like '20s music.
He's gonna like '90s music because that's what his mother listened to while he was growing up.
We're there.
They have pigs.
Oh, there are.
It's so nice. Like the other place that we have taken cows to.
Yeah.
Oh, look. So this is what would happen if we brought them here live. They look just like ours. You don't want them too stressed out.
But they could have been trained with trailers.
Yeah.
This type of life.
So would we want to next time train them to trailers? So they don't get trussed out in the hall? Or are we going to do a 13-hour butchering?
Well, I think we need to just be a better butcher. We just need to plan better.
Okay, Rebecca, we dropped it off. 8:45. There's the cuts. Yeah, you're gonna be ready to tell her what you want. Yep, they're calling you in an hour. We gotta go home, it's 8:45. We milked early yesterday, we're gonna milk late today.
All right, we're back.
Let's get milking. Boy, it feels good out here, nice and cool. Hey, Miss Thing, she's gonna give a lot of milk today because— let's see, we milked her 8:30 yesterday. It's now 10. I got the boys set up to milk. Thank you, boys. How charming, both of you. I need to see where we're gonna go next with the sheep. They love the COVID crops, and they have revealed all our pumpkins. Can't just come straight up over in here because we have blueberries, but can we like zigzag with our fence and encompass the blueberries? Compass the Isles of the Blueberries.
Yes, can I have the audiobook?
Sure, what are you gonna listen to?
So there'll be Jonah Wants To.
Okay, well, got one fence up, we got Flossie out, milk cup. Look who's here! Everybody likes to see you, Moose. It's okay, it's okay. Hey. This guy, his destiny is the same as bears. His role here is to sustain us by meat. We appreciate that, buddy. We're gonna do good by you while you're here, though, okay? I know Phyllis— thank you, gal— the boys wanted to do the fence. I don't think— oh, you did it! Okay, let's check it out.
We got a new fence and it worked amazing.
What do you mean? Oh, okay, it wasn't all tangled. Okay, this is quite the zigzag here. Look at the zigzag.
Did we do it right?
Yeah, protect the blueberries. There you go. Let's see what they think. It's too narrow for them. They got it. How sad. Chickens won't love that as much as the pigs. We are bottoming out on our wrestling ring today. I talked to Ben yesterday. We're probably gonna put 4 more wheels on this thing, so wheels will be in the middle too.
Wow.
Okay, teamwork. Yeah, you did. It's much easier with y'all. Right there. Oh, grass! They're hungry. They're ready to move on. Hey, have you ever opened up the paddock for the cows? Look at them, they're waiting on you.
Do I actually pick up the fence?
Yeah, do the— either one. You can pick up the post or the— now if you want to show off, you can say sugar. Yeah, hey, come on, you're not much of a show-off. Make it look like they're coming to your call. There you go. Now put it back. Now we need to make a gate here. I'm liking this 3-prong system. It's going to keep in moose, going to keep in the sheep. Gosh, it's going to be so smooth when we have our whole farm with a nice vein going all the way through it, right, Rebecca? I look at these lanes as veins getting the goodness up to these pastures. Okay, that's legit. The, the, the width of the, the lane is as wide as the T-post, so the gates are the same width, so it nicely hangs there. Look, that's perfect. Joni, you did a good job measuring these out. Yeah, breakfast time. Where you been?
In here.
Yeah. Good morning, Lily. Good morning. Apparently Lily made us a Fancy Nancy yogurt with Anna. What is in the Fancy Nancy yogurt?
Blueberries, yogurt, blueberries, banana, and Thank you.
Sausage, how appropriate. How's it feel, guys? Over a year's worth, easy a year's worth of pork with a lot to give away. Gone. It's at the cooler. Rebecca, have I even sat down to eat in a long time? I don't think I sat down to eat. No, I ate standing up. Probably.
You can put it in there.
This feels foreign to me, just sitting down and eating.
It's nice.
Here we go. Let's get our editing on. We got some catch-up to do because we couldn't edit yesterday. Didn't get done until like 8 o'clock at night. Take a break from editing for a second. Rebecca? Rebecca? Yeah. Okay. Taking a bath? That's perfect on a chilly day like today. Good and restful. Wish I would take time to take a bath. The sheep already mowed that down. Supper time. Been going at it. Got a vlog finished, Rebecca. Vlog number 1, almost 6. Uh, gonna have to go at vlog number 2 to get us caught up.
That's right.
I like to call this chicken deliciousness. Chicken and broccoli and cheese. 3 of my favorite things. These, not so much my favorite, but they're good for you, right? All right, after supper, snack time. Lily's getting the smoothies out. Josiah, you got a new strange foot there, buddy.
Yeah, peg leg.
Peg leg. All right, hey, you guys have a wonderful weekend. We love you guys very much. Thank you for watching these videos. Looking forward to Monday. We got Polyface interns coming this weekend and we're going to document that throughout. So that's going to be very special. Polyface, Joe Salatin's farm, his— they've been spending the summer working there. Uh, it's gonna be a great insight and a great fun.
4 or 5 of them, what'd you say? Are we?
We're gonna go. Are we gonna go there? We're going there in October.
Joel Felton.
Yep.
All right, Miss Penelope.
Okay, high five. All right, until then, his people are coming to us.
Okay.
All right, say see you Monday.
See you Monday.
