What Happened to the Farm After One Week Away

This content was created by Victor Justin Rhodes. This content was uploaded by Victor Justin Rhodes. This is a YouTube video titled "What Happened to the Farm After One Week Away" (created 2019-12-18). The excerpt is an informal, diarized transcript of a farm-sitting update/inspection between two speakers — 'MARIAH' (the farm sitter) and another speaker labeled 'SPEAKER A'. They discuss routine farm chores and conditions after a week away, including animal behavior (pigs, sheep, chickens, a character called Stud Muffin), fence and pasture issues, feed delivery, wood chips/compost, greenhouse and barn work, the mower/tractor, and booking/Instagram info for farm-sitting. The tone is conversational and practical, focused on maintenance observations and logistics.

Sally's out and about.
Sally's on the move.
They're doing chores. She— we are not in Florida anymore. It is cold. You've been enjoying Sally, haven't you? Oh yeah, that's a useful tool.
It is, has been a lot helpful, especially with feeding the bales of hay. Yeah, we were feeling a little festive.
Okay, nice, I like it. How'd it go, Moriah?
It went pretty well. Stud Muffin has been quite the lovely treat. Oh boy, he's decided to move himself like 3 times this week. And so we tried, maybe we're like, maybe they're still hungry, so we'd feed them a little bit more. And then I think that just encouraged him. He's like, you know what, if I don't— if I move myself, they'll feed me. And he stared at me like that the whole week. Well, I had to kind of be a little pushy towards him because he got into my sheep. Hey, hey, hey, back!
He is acting crazy.
Yeah, he got in there with the sheep and I couldn't get him out.
Oh really? When'd that happen?
Like probably like 5 minutes before you all rolled up. I was trying to push him out of there and he was, he was rearing his head at me and I was like, oh God. So he's been crazy about the sheep, but he helped me get Moose in there. That was the only benefit.
Okay, good. Let's keep an eye on that guy. Yeah, I don't know, but the lane looks good.
Yes. And it was like every day we'd come out here and a new insulator would be broken, a new thing would— I guess this fence work has to be done every day.
Yeah.
And Stud Muffin decided to take out a lot of this post too. It sounds like he came out here earlier and put in, used the T-post pounder and pounded some in.
Sounds like Stud Muffin hadn't been behaving himself.
He has not been.
So this is Mariah, everyone. Farm setter extraordinaire. Uh, Sadie had to go home early. Yep, she left today. Your partner in crime, Phyllis, was in a really bad mood this morning.
She was not letting down her milk very well.
The sheep seemed fine. Oh, no drama with the sheep.
One of them let me pet him. I was so surprised.
Oh good.
She— all the boys are over there.
What'd you say?
It's very cold. What?
You're not in Florida anymore. Big difference one day. That's so cool though, like one day drives away, we're in like 80 degrees and we're back up here, it probably feels like 20. They must have had some rain just south. Okay, I want you to go see something down here at the Luchadors. I want you to see this pasture. You can totally tell in the winter, can't you? See this strip? It's like, oh my gosh, really? Really? How much greener it is over here. So I failed to tell you, the luchadors, when they got to the end of this field— I'm so sorry I didn't tell you to go left or right. You're supposed to go right. You, I bet, looked and didn't know which Because it's a lot to say right now.
Yeah, it all looks—
so what happened? You thought that looks greener, which it does, right?
It looks way—
and you said we haven't hit that in a while.
Well, they were happy. They were munching.
Oh, they are, they're fine. I just— the, um, the parasites we're watching out for, but they're hardy bees. So what we're gonna do, let's move them. Yeah, you're, you're already undoing the clips, that's great. Bring the clips over here. And we'll haul it back over there. They're gonna be fine, they're hardy guys. And that's the magic of the sea monsters though. Pick the worst part of your next year, sea monsters are going right there. That's been bad since I can remember. We're going way over there to the end of About right there. Good to see you guys doing well.
Hey!
We got our feed delivered. No incidents there? No, no tractor topsy-turvy.
It was beautiful.
We kept this clean, didn't we, Mariah?
We were very—
or did you have to go in after us? Well, you did a little bit.
Picked up a little.
Yeah, thank you. It looks good. Our chick shawls are doing willies. We got to get the kickstand. I should put that on your list to make a kickstand.
I thought about that. We did it almost every night, putting that piece of wood under there.
Oh, you got the gardens covered?
Yep.
Good job. All the gardens, save these. You probably couldn't find a tarp. Okay, yeah, we'll have to find the tarps for, for us. You're leaving tonight, aren't you?
Yeah, I am. I'm gonna drive up to Virginia tonight. We added wood chips twice, pretty like pretty early on in the week we did it, and then it rained and rained until it looked bad again. Yeah, we added wood chips Yesterday, and this is a product of rain from last night.
That's what rain in the winter will do. But this is going to be so much compost, you know that, right?
That's so much easier.
Oh yeah, look, there's some bedding here. Look, looks good here. It's just that one area really. Did you get any eggs while we were gone?
Oh, we got 2 dozen. A little—
oh wow, good, good.
Oh no, it's fine.
Why? No, it's not.
Can you get it?
Here, I'll help you. Well, here's the key, Mariah. It may be wet, but it doesn't smell. It doesn't, so we're good.
It smells delicious. How are the pigs?
Well, we're gonna go to them next.
They're great, they're so cute, and they decided their poop little corner is the door. Oh my God, it's actually kind of convenient.
I guess that's true. All right, you got our— you got us our wood pile going. Yep, that's good. From across the street.
No, it's not all of it.
I bet we fill this room plus some.
Oh yeah, we did a lot.
Good. Are they coming to you yet? Oh yeah, they— we got to be careful. You guys have changed so much in just a week. They're coming to the door already. Oh, have they been fed tonight?
They have been. They are—
they have been.
Okay, they got some swill and some—
Yay, they've already eaten it!
They have. They were—
good job, guys! You're not afraid of me anymore already?
Nope.
You've already tamed them, Mariah.
We were petting them earlier. We really want— you know, the pigs at Pollyface would not let you touch them because there's so many of them, but they'll let you scratch them, and that's what I want. Yeah, they're nice and friendly.
They, they train so quick. When there's just two of them, they're faster training than any other animals.
They're so smart. The brown one is the leader, the black one is the follower.
Bacon and sausage. Red is bacon and black is sausage.
Well, bacon's better than sausage.
You did a good job on the, uh, cleaning up this area, the basement, the wood pile, the garden, the garden beds. Keeping everybody alive and well in the fence.
We tried to clean them by the old barn. We got the A-frame in there and we actually got it stood up, which it took a while.
Oh, you got some stuff in the barn? Good. Yeah, maybe we should go see that and then be done. You got— you worked on the greenhouse? It was full of weeds. Oh, glorious! That's gonna be exciting come spring. February-ish, we're gonna be ready to go. We got everything in here then. Turkey shaw, pig shelter, the A-frame. That's one way to do it. So we got the chick, uh, meat shaw back there.
Yep, everything's back there. And, uh, well, how you'll have to move it is so easy. We just put the little dolly under there, that flat one, and we just pulled it out and it was— it's so light, it was easy.
Good. We got everything in the barn. The tractor, everything.
Everything.
Good job. The mower is covered over there and we still have some room. Good job, guys. Look, they backed it up in here. It started right up for you?
Oh, we had no issues with it at all.
Good.
So impressed. We didn't even plug her in the night before because it was cold. We just cold started her the other day and I was like, we don't have to set her up.
Okay.
Hi! Who won? Who won? Good job. The house, the house is nice and clean, and there was a fire going.
Yes, yes, the fire is a nice touch.
It was very nice.
Thank you very much. So if folks need a farm sitter, where do they go? They're not available.
They're only—
we get first booking. Yes, first right of refusal.
Go to our Instagram, so marbar_809. Sadie, I don't remember what—
