There's somewhere in this bedroom explosion—
Sophia, but they're mine!
You found some?
Uh-huh.
Okay, go ahead and put them on. We are running so late. It's like 8 o'clock. Normally we're out there by 7:30. Something about this child. I mean, I was sleeping good. Waking up a few times. I think it's just the excitement and the work. Do you know where your coat is?
No.
Where you wear camo? No. Is that it? Way over there? No, that's a vest. Hey, you getting a little distracted? It's not in the fridge.
I know one place where it might be.
Oh, I got Jonah on babysitting duty this morning. How's little Henry? He's good. How's little Henry? Teddy, you want to go with us? Want to go outside? Mom's taking a bath. Jonah's got baby duty while we do chores, rotating the kids through that. Have you found your thing yet? Did you go out and look in the greenhouse? They're cold until they play in the greenhouse and then they take it off. Wait, you didn't find it? No, you went to the greenhouse and didn't see it? Or you're gonna wear that one? I thought you said it was too small.
I'm gonna see if it's okay.
Maybe till you can find your black one.
It's perfect. Oh, that one's bigger. It's like up to there. Okay, he's a complete rechange.
Oh, Jenna says the baby needs changed. What do you need, Lily?
New boots.
How can you not tell?
I have to wear a gait— I have to wear just size boots because what's wrong with your boots? One's missing. It has holes in it.
Okay.
And it's too little.
What did you say about Gideon's jacket?
It's down at the pool bar.
I don't see it. Where at? Oh, I see it. Gideon, it's on the gate. Yeah, I remember seeing that yesterday. Jeremy, you got an outfit ready to go? Yeah. And wipes and diapers?
Now I remember.
Okay, now make sure he doesn't pee. I changed his diaper. Always feel so sorry because my hands for some reason are always so cold. You think you can change his outfit?
Yeah. Papa, okay, you've done a good job.
All right, you got him? Yeah. Hey, what's going on guys? Okay, nice. Did you have a hard time getting those goose eggs? Lily said they were being protective of them. How many goose eggs you got in there?
Goodness, there's still more eggs.
So we still got an egg eater. I see. Where are the more eggs?
Back down there. I want a sweater.
You can't walk down there in that?
No.
And switch it. All right, Teddy wants to go. Our project today— more on that in a bit. What are you going up that way for?
Because it won't open.
Ah, we keep forgetting to get this door fixed. Oh, I got it. Okay. Hey, which one of you is laying all these eggs? Which one of you is Rosie? Rosie's the prolific egg layer. Hey, what do you got? How do you know that's an egg eater?
Because the egg just got cracked and it has a beak wet.
Oh really? We have somebody eating our eggs and Josiah's telling me it's this one. How do you know it's that one?
Well, look at his face. It's wet.
It's wet? Its face is wet?
Just watch.
Okay, okay.
Oh yeah.
Oh, naughty chicken.
Got it!
Well, wait, let's just see.
Yep, it's eating it.
It's eating the egg. Oh yeah, we caught it. Okay, hang on, hang on. Let's not lose sight. One naughty chicken can eat so many eggs. We could be getting double the eggs. Look, egg yolk is coming out of that chicken beak. That's not even a prize chicken anyway. It looks super skinny. Wow. Wow, that— yeah, look, it's a bearded lady. She's got yolk on her legs. Well, she's got yolk on her beak. She got yolk on her feet too. Oh yeah, she's got yolk. Whoa, we found the egg eater, Rune. Does he eating eggs? So you should eat her. Oh no, you know who's gonna eat her? The pigs.
Oh, guys, throw it on the floor and break up the shell.
Or do that to the pig. Throw it hard into the pig pan so it breaks. Oh no. Oh snap, I left the door open. And how are we gonna get out without scaring them all out? We can't. So what we got to do is herd them along that wall in, in there. Let's do some weeding in this garlic again. All right, harvested the chicken. She's in a pot of water. We just gotta light the stove. It's super easy to get the pigs a meal this way. They'll eat it like that. They'll like it better cooked. Go ahead. Nice. Oh my, I've gotten so distracted I forgot I'm supposed to be getting Gideon's jacket.
Gideon's okay if it— he's in there playing.
That's what I was afraid of. There it is, Josiah. You want to take it up to him?
Sure.
Okay, hopefully he comes. Whoa, look how tall this material is! It's right there. That's, that's over a foot and a half. That means it's going to be heating up. I'm actually in the process of proofing, uh, Joel Salatin's new book. Yeah, like my job is to make sure he's talking to homesteaders. This is his first homesteading book. He can homestead, but he's just used to talking market farm, so I'm kind of helping him like make sure we're talking in terms that homesteaders can understand. He mentioned that for a compost to work— we want this to work as a compost— it's got to be deep enough. And he was saying a foot, but we're well over a foot now. That's going to be heating up real nice any day. It's already at 100 in some places, so that's a slow cook. I would maybe like to see it get a little higher given that we only have about 6 weeks, 5, 6 weeks 5 weeks till these guys go out. Adjustable ranch. The problem is these wheels have gone completely flat. We looked into just fixing the flats, but at $16 for a whole new caster and wheel, it's cheaper just to take them off these casters and just replace the entire wheel. I'm crossing my fingers this opens up. You know what we need? Another wrench, because that's just twisting. I know we have an adjustable wrench somewhere. For now, let's just see what we have in the tractor since it's right here. I got an assortment of rusty tools. Out of the tractor. Maybe one of those will work. That'd be nice if the wrench would work. What? Perfect. Who's gonna help me with this?
Not me.
Wrench on one side, this one on the other. It's coming off nice. I said I bring that wheel over. Hey, do you have some blocks we can put under there? Maybe a bunch of these. Can you shove this under there if I lift it up?
Sure, right there.
Okay. Good. All right, that's it. That's nice. So I mean, if you think about it, if you can raise 2 sheep in it all the growing season, have to replace 3 wheels, it's $40, a little less than $50. That's pretty cheap ongoing expense. There's this one needs replaced and that one. Something like this might just need air. This one just might need air. All right, that looks good, right guys? We do not have time to move it right this minute though. Let's go milk the cows and then we'll move this thing. I'll put that in the metal stall. Okay, let's get some air building up in our air compressor. Let that compressor fill up. Bryn's prepping the cows. Hey guys, any babies yet? No babies? About a week, they're officially due. It's quite possible if Nacho bred them the first day. Here, let me scoot her over so she can get in here safely. Look at her, she just knows. Wow, she knows. You know, speaking of Joel Salatin's book that's going to be coming out soon that I'm working on, he's got a course out like next week, an online course. This week they're giving away 3 modules. It's a lot of what's in this book. It's going to be a good companion. Like, I was reading this book about the water, how to build a dam out of a 2-foot by 6-foot piece of tin on a spring. It was amazing information, but it's a little hard to grasp in a book. So I'm like, that's where the video would be perfect. And I know they talk about it because then you could just see it, so it'd be a good companion for each other. The producers of that are letting me give away 3 of those modules to you guys for free. And if I have that link in time, I'm going to link it down in the description. I don't see the harm of it. Sure, you'll get an opportunity to join the course, but you can grab the 3 free samplers really, uh, and for no obligation.
What do you need me to do?
Oh, okay. Arun got her somewhere off. Papa, the size, back at it. Yeah, if you want to pull that leg back. For her. She don't want to go easy, does she? All right, all right, go ahead. Milk and Phyllis, this one heat just keeps getting clogged again and again. I can feel a lot of material in there, so either she's getting worse or this is finally that thing that L's are breaking up in a big way. Oh yeah, I got it, got it! Unblocked there. I must have unblocked her 4 or 5 times. I think this might be— this time I might have did it. Yeah, and it stinks. Yeah, I think I, I think I got it. Gosh, it smells like a rotten egg. Still got a couple more months to milk before we dry her off, but any worst case, we'll just have to dry her off if she completely plugs up. Oh, she is at retirement age. This is done.
Oh yeah, that's the chicken.
What's going on in here?
Making Mama her toast.
Okay, nice. Is that first breakfast?
Okay.
How's it going in here? It's going good. How's my baby's mama? Good. How's my baby? He's good. You know, we're in a new stage. He's starting to wake up a little more. More. Instead of wishing for that stage to come, I'm dreading it. I'm just enjoying all the stages.
I know, I know, we want all the stages to last.
That's 40-year-old saps, like the stages, enjoying all of it. All right, Beck, I'm gonna go move this wrestling ring. Hey, thanks, Arun, for getting our tank up here. Try to pull the valve out and I just pushed it in on accident. Yeah, see, I just shoved it in there on the accident. I just have a thought. If we get these old wheels off, we might be able to get to them a little bit better and not have to replace them. I'm going to try to pull the valve out. Yeah, now I can do it. It's an L. I've pulled it out. Now I think I can get this on there. Oh yeah, heck yeah, we're doing business now. Good. I'd rather save a tire than replace one. I ended up just taking the concept and doing it on the wheel. I didn't even have to take the wheel off. Just kind of had to figure out how it worked, and now I can do it in a little more tricky situation. I'm kind of excited to get back at this, even though we moved it twice a day during the growing season. It's getting old at the end. We got a rest, and now we're energized. Okay guys, let's pull it. Let's do this. Thanks everyone for helping me move. Just saw fooling around with the drone. All right, y'all can play now. I think this is about where it was. I'm so thrilled that this pasture got rest all winter, a couple months. That is our wrestling ring for the luchadors, which is Nacho our ram and Escalito are— he's a wither, he's a castrated male— because the ram needs a buddy. We're gonna put the ram out there, I think, pretty much as soon as this— the sheep start giving birth, or, you know, maybe a little bit before, just because we want to time our breedings. We want to have babies in the spring when it's easy, warm, grass, and butcher all at once in the fall. I think Arun got Sally queued up. We didn't even need her. I think Arun's ready to get back on Sally. He misses riding. I do too, you know. I'm for once not dreading spring and getting very excited about it. What's going on?
Oh, look!
The little bundle getting in a carrier.
He's not loving it. He wants to nurse some more. I need to go nurse him.
You tried.
But he's, um, he's not hating it completely like Gideon did. Like, Gideon would not go in these things. He was not happy.
Call me when he's awake and happy and we'll show everybody. Okay, that'll be a nice happy ending. Okay, well look, he settled in.
Yeah, he did. He's happy.
Oh, Teddy's up and about. Stop, Teddy. Her midwife orders. Okay, well, he made a liar out of me. It's almost 1. The kid still hasn't woke up, but I am enjoying resting him on my chest. I'm about to get on the phone call with Ben, my co-director of Rooted. We're talking through the next show. You excited about that, Rebecca? It's gonna be about you, Megatimes.
I don't know if I'm excited about that, but I'm excited.
I think it's gonna be about the courage that you women have. It's not so much about you, but women and, and mamas. You're just gonna represent.
