Victor Justin Rhodes keeps his chickens 15 feet from his front door, arguing they belong closer to the house than most people think. He suggests cutting a window into an exterior wall with built-in nest boxes so you can collect eggs without leaving home.
People tend to put chickens way too far away from the house. This is where our chickens are most of the year, literally, I think, 15 feet from our front door. If the beautiful one would let me, I would put the chickens right here, put a hole, a window in the wall, nest boxes right here, reach out and grab the nest boxes. Put the chickens as close to the house as socially acceptable.
If I had to start my Homestead all over again, it could only pick one animal…
