Whole House Clean Out | We're Moving

In this vlog-style video, Victor Justin Rhodes, his wife Rebecca (Becky), and their children (Lily, Gideon, Henry) document the chaotic final days of moving out of their long-time home. Over a span of five working days, the family tackles a massive clean‑out, sorting and discarding items, loading freezers, and preparing boxes for donation and the movers. Victor leads the effort, urging a minimalist approach, while Rebecca navigates decision fatigue, especially around clothing and supplements. The family renders pork fat into lard, counts chickens for possible feed, and deals with logistical challenges such as limited truck space, box shortages, and delayed demolition crews. Emotional moments surface as they reflect on the 20‑plus years spent in the house, expressing sadness, excitement, and anxiety about the upcoming move to a new homestead with a farmhouse, a potential hot tub, and a more minimal kitchen. The video blends practical moving tips, DIY food processing, family dynamics, and heartfelt reflections on change.

We got to get every single thing out of this house. We have 5 working days. Can we do it? I don't know. Including all this. What are we gonna do with all these freezers? Trundle bed's going out for sale. And we have plenty of distractions. Squirrel! Appointments this afternoon. I said, Mom, what would make us feel good if we got done in an hour and a half today? Fifth of the way done. We're gonna tackle your room.
It is several weeks after Darcy's been here. Last week was insane. I did not get to any cleaning out. I did do the container. This week I am starting in Lily's room. How you feeling about it, Lily? Glad we got rid of some of the stuff we did?
Yeah. We've got a pile here we really need to deal with. I'll call it Darcy style. You don't clean out a room and make a pile and then not deal with the pile right away. Hey, wouldn't it be easier just to be minimalist? Mom can't even come in here, it's so overwhelming. So we got to get it to a spot where she can come in. Those boxes overflowing need to be condensed down to more boxes. We got it to where you could come in here, Beck. Right? You feeling overwhelmed?
It's so very overwhelming.
We cannot finish in here. We need to get everything out. You guys, you got to keep going through clothes. You got to dare to go underneath this bed.
Dare you to take a nap.
You got stuff out?
Yes. Look under this one though, Justin.
Oh, it's not that bad, Rebecca. Definitely all the Goodwill stuff's got to get out of here. We've got a trailer ready to go. Oh, look at that! Got everything out of the hallway. Huge progress. And what do we have?
An hour.
I think other days we'll have more time. We got to get this stuff to storage, got a load going to the Goodwill.
I can't pick this up, it's too heavy.
Okay, half a load anyway. About to eat supper. It just feels lighter in here, I swear. We're not bringing anything in we don't use in that cabin. That's gonna be the great test. Do we really need it? You guys feel lighter?
Yeah.
Does it feel lighter to you?
Yeah.
We'll go lighter in here to you. Think we'll get done? You have no option. Well, demo's coming. We have a few days after the movers leave, and we've been putting off the thoughts about the freezers. I need to start going through it. Some of it we don't need, probably feed to the pigs. How about this? Doing it. I'm going after these dreaded freezers. They've got to go somewhere. I don't know where, but we should start by going through them. Perhaps the market pigs will be happy today. Let's go ahead and render this pig fat. Hey, what are y'all doing? Can you start cleaning the loft? Unsolicited space, not gonna be so anymore. Going all the way over to the wall. I think I'm standing in the boys' bedroom. Knock this off. We already ground some pork fat. We're gonna turn it into lard. Put a little bit of water in there so it so it doesn't burn initially. When you grind it up like that, that's a game changer for rendering nicely. Put it on low heat. Put the ice packs right here into here. You want some help? I'll get this one. Fridge freezer combo cleared up. Movers will move empty fridges and freezers. Gideon, throw those styrofoam coolers down, please. This one dispersed over there and over there. What's up getting up there? Where's Henry? Right there. What are y'all doing? One empty freezer, two empty freezers. Can we disperse it? One empty fridge freezer, a little space there, a couple shelves there. Well, what's this chest freezer? We got two chest freezers. Maybe get this down to 5 freezers. Y'all come help me haul some chicken over here, please. Might as well fill this up. I don't think we'll get it all in there, but I can't— freezer. We put these in our walk-in freezer, these boxes. All right, we're gonna do it. It's hard to get help around here though. Come on, kids. It's like smoothie stuff. They're pretty close. Guys, come start hauling this chicken, please. Wow, a pig head!
I know, it's so cute! That's good.
Also get the count on chickens. We've got about 100. Call the Inquirer, folks. The Rhodes are down to one chef's freezer. And 1, 2, 3, let's get this mess cleaned up and we'll call it a day. Feeling good. I got— well, this is starting to render down. It's so good when you grind the fat like that. Look pretty good. Roasted bone. Let's fill this up with water. Instant Pot this 2 or 3 times. Round 1. I think I'm gonna get about a half a gallon. A little more. 3 working days till we're moving out of here. Oh my word, am I showing you this? Well, yes, I'll show you this. This is just after lunch. It's been an explosion. No excuses for this disgusting hallway, except we've been clearing. Mom's packing up the bedroom. I think we saved the worst for last. I'm about to tackle this kitchen. Well, the boys picked it up. That was the deal. They get to go outside now. I get to start tackling this. What do we need immediately and what do we need short-term? Everything's coming out. Condensed it down to a couple of boxes, a bag of trash, some giveaway. Do we have a bigger box?
It is like almost the day's over. It feels like I have gone through all of my clothes and I went through all the baby's clothes. Now I am kind of like going through all of our stuff, putting what we actually don't need into boxes. I have what one might call decision fatigue. I still have to go through all of my supplements. I am maybe a little bit of a supplement hoarder.
Look, don't you think that'll be a little weird? Weird? What? What's weird?
And I don't really know how to pack it. I'm quickly realizing that I really enjoyed not moving.
Only 2 days to move day. We got some work to do. So much for Sally. They want to use the truck to haul it. So excessive. Hey, Lily, this all your ice packs?
Yeah.
This is gonna stay here until it's not. No, it's getting removed. It's definitely gonna have to be last minute. Hold this. We need a lot of Boston butt. You think I can pick this up? All right, I don't know where anybody else is. Let's put them in the back of the truck. We're only going a little ways. Go real slow, okay? Family cow's a lot. Look at all those milk supplies. She gives a lot, she takes a lot. You want to drive, Becky? One day to moving out.
I feel really sad.
Oh, not sad.
Because this has like been our home for 20+ years.
This will never be the same. Where you're sitting is going to be a screened-in shade room.
I do look forward to having some grass.
It's been half a month— half a year now.
I'm very excited about what's happening. It's also very scary. Yeah, I've watched enough HGTV to know that when you remodel, there's problems. Oh yeah, and I'm hoping—
well, problem number 1, the demo guys have put us off 10 days. I know, but we're forging ahead.
We're forging ahead. I moved around a lot as a kid. I'm trying to, to find what am I gonna love over there because there was always something, you know, it was always hard to move.
What are you going over there? I'm interested to find out. One bathroom.
It's got a good view. There's grass over there. We're going to get really minimal with our kitchen stuff. Yeah, what I don't use or what I don't reach for or what I'm not using in that container is not coming back.
Please, Becky. You sad, Lily? She has a hard time. She's a homebody.
We could get a hot tub, like a natural hot tub, a wood hot tub.
Can we get another shower bath?
A hot tub, and we could put Epsom bath and salts in it.
What about the kids? What if, what if somebody went over there to take a bath?
I mean, we need to utilize that space.
Oh, we're gonna. We're taking the milk stuff over there now. Nice! I think the farmhouse is gonna be our new best friend. I think this is where you boys are gonna take a shower. Look at him looking at me. This new milk station, not too bad, not too bad. Had to do some by hand. Is your room packed and ready to go? Yeah, except for some clothes I'm gonna wear. What about y'all? Y'all need some work. Y'all work on this. We got all these coats. It's getting real. There's an echo in here. Not one thing on the shelf. Let's hit this area while we're doing shoes, my man. I like how this feels. Okay, so this feels done and ready to go. This is feeling good. You're getting there, babe. We got about 3 hours. Foyer is ready. Lily's making ice cream, celebrating the move. Her medicines are ready. This is This is your dad's ashes.
I mean, obviously we're taking them with us, but—
Getting it done. We are pretty minimal with our clothes. That's both of ours. You having a good time yet, Beck? No. Well, get ready for a party. We got 3-foot-tall sparklers. She told me she wants to record something.
I just want to point out we have run out of boxes, and my containers that I brought from my house are coming in very handy.
Me and all the internet apologize for making fun of you and your containers. Not. It's been so intense, guys. I don't even know where my other house shirt is. And I don't want to stop to find it. A little intimidated out here. We've gone through it. I don't think this is as bad as it looks, but it looks pretty bad. This stuff has to be in boxes. The movers won't move it without boxes. Might be a record for them though. We're moving from right here to right there. Darcy, if you're watching this, I just opened a box of brand new box of totes. We are trucking. A little bit of insulation down. I don't know why I pointed that out. We got this cleared out. I believe that's going to the big dumpster when it comes. Boom. Well, clippers. I need to cut my hair tonight. Stuff for sale. Nice pile of boxes ready to be hauled out. More boxes ready to be hauled out. To be fully ready for tomorrow, I feel like we need to tidy this up. This is all we lack. And then I have to go through that, my office. You did good with the ice cream. Last meal in the house. Want to celebrate with some fireworks? Don't light it near that paper. Sparky, go in the yard, go in the yard. Last night in the holler house. That Thanksgiving is gonna be completely different moving into the cabin. Yeah, it's worth the sacrifice for the ultimate homestead. You got one too? It's celebration. Yeah!
