Will these kind of Pigs tear of the Yard? They say, no.

In this vlog, the family‑run homestead walks through a busy morning of farm management, focusing on whether their piglets can be trained to till soil and what shelter they’ll need. The host (Speaker A) coordinates a range of chores: repairing a broken fence, discussing wheel‑height adjustments for a pig cage, and planning a larger pig shelter. They tend to chickens, checking eggs, building a chicken tractor, and handling an egg‑eater problem. Garden work includes planting a square‑foot garden with herbs, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, beans, cucumbers and pumpkins, while also discussing seed orders and germination challenges. The vlog showcases a DIY water‑system hack using a shut‑off adapter, recycling wastewater, and fixing a leaking spigot. Equipment rental (a small tilling machine) and repurposing wheel‑axle parts for new shelters are described, along with ordering supplies online (pig shelter parts, energizer, fence components). Throughout, the family members (Lily, Rebecca, Randolph, Jonah, and others) are assigned tasks, discuss logistics, and share light‑hearted banter, illustrating the collaborative, hands‑on nature of small‑scale sustainable farming.

All right, do we have any— what just happened? Oh, Teddy touched it. Wet feet too, buddy. So I'm wondering if these little piglets will till. They have a little bit, man. It'd be kind of good if we could get best of both worlds. If they're in here maybe a day, they didn't till. We're gonna move them every day anyway if we put them out on pasture. And then if we want them to till Keeping them in one area longer. Let's keep them in here. Josiah's fed them. Good job, Josiah. In the meantime, while we're building a shelter, we'll see— oh look, yep, this is good news, guys. This all happened after day 2. We want them to be able to till, to be able to be a long-term solution of pig on our farm. It would also be nice if they grazed because we could go behind the cows and they would eat the manure, spread that, kill the fly— the pest cycle with the flies. Maybe do that with y'all in the summer and clear forest in the winter. Good morning, Miss Funky Funk. I like this outfit. You can get away with anything, can't you? Yeah, this garden. Yeah, this garden. Oh, so why do we bother with the cats? That's why. That mouse is severed. Hey, hey, hey, hey, don't scratch that. Hey, you're gonna— you earn your keep, you're worth the trouble, but we have a solution for you, maybe. Hey, what happened with Flossie being down here?
She busted out, so I just brought her here.
It looks like that fence that we mended yesterday is down. Could you screw that in with some screws today?
No, I know where she busted out, but still, could you screw in that, that Yeah, I will.
There we go. All right, just stay in there. Not long till milking time. Trying to show Teddy that we go— we all go outside in the morning. How's your grass holding up in there? Do we need to move them soon? Okay, we'll move them tomorrow. Did you move this chickshaw today? Okay, good deal. Okay guys, did you eat your patch of grass? We had to mow in front of you. Yeah, yeah, you got some patches. Okay, problem is this thing is terribly hard to pull. Here, where can we put you? Because the grass, I think, in the spring is just so thick. We got this in summer, moved it around in summer and fall, but look how thick this is even though we mowed it. Look how thick. Gosh. So can I move it myself now that we've cut the ground.
2, 3.
Okay, I think we would. That, that's showing the power of the 8th wheel. Look, if that wasn't so flat, I think it's bottoming out right here. See, there's a huge hump right here. What if I get in there and push? Lift up and push. Yeah, that would definitely help.
Yeah.
I talked to Ben, he's the guy who welded this. He said he could easily lower these wheels, therefore raising this cage. It's 3 inches off the ground. I'm thinking what we don't want is these guys to crawl under it and go breed our sheep, but I think we can get away with going a little higher. If we just went— gosh, we almost went a year no flat tires, I just realized that. So if we're replacing one flat tire every 10 months, $10, a dollar a month. What am I— sometimes, sometimes my cheapness comes to bite me. Just by the wheel. I need things to be easy enough for everybody. That's the goal, that It's a struggle for me. I want Rebecca or the kids just to come out here and be able to push that. Sure, we could use Sally, but you don't want to drive on your pasture. That would happen— that would happen twice a day. You don't want to drive out there twice a day and compact it and therefore harm your pasture. That's the plate. That's, that's your sheep's plate of food. Our luchadors are currently caged in a cattle panel. They're not jumping through a 4-inch area. So have it 3 inches off the ground right now, but then you have the, the grass sod. So could we do 4 inches off the ground? Certainly. Maybe 5. How you holding up, Teddy? Come on, go inside. Piglets! We're still figuring out what to do with the piglets. We're gonna train them, continue to train them in our backyard, maybe put them out behind the, the luchadors for a little bit before we put them behind the ewes.
I found another egg eater. Okay, I just put it in there with the other chickens.
Okay, so now we have 4 in there. Okay, can you also check the eggs like every hour? And we got to get a fake egg somewhere, guys. We have egg eaters in our breakfast posse. We need fake eggs and we need to check out eggs regularly. We— Jonah's caught some. And we put them in the chicken tractor. Speaking of chicken tractor, we used to plant it, you know, we moved the chickens over, they're prepping another garden. Rebecca planted me some— what'd she plant me? Here it is, maybe. No, that's probably her. Somewhere in here she planted me some summer— love summer crops.
What's your project?
We're gonna fit— we're gonna get the parts for this this pig, pig shaw. We can't get the pigs out in the pasture until we have a shade for them. Jonah went and got us the scraps, scrap food, skim milk. Come on, we forgot to bring extra pants, guys. Really? You test it every day. It's important to keep a pig fence on. Do you touch it every day, ladies? So I'm going to show you what I'm talking about, the tilling power of a pig. Just one second, hang in there. How about some meat scraps and cucumber and banana peel and chicken bones? The longer the snout, the better the pig's going to be at tilling. But can you imagine, these guys are like, what, 150? If we had a 600-pounder of these guys, 600-800-pounder would be their mom and dad. If we're gonna have our own breeding program, that's not really gonna work. They've tilled into this in 3-4 days, guys. They're almost ready. They need to do a little more work right here, but this is going to be grass seed, and it's a good thing. This is what's going to happen. This this grass 10x, really. This is where we've had pigs before, but now that we're going to come through again, it's gonna— it's gonna get up the rest, okay? Because this wasn't forest. It's our shelter that's working for 2 big pigs. This thing, it's not even 8 feet, is it? It's 4 foot because 2 tens are 2 foot. And then if I were to lay down on this, I'm 6 foot. Yeah, I bet this is just 6 feet. So give us an idea of what kind of shelter size we need. Oh, he's just chilling. She's just chilling.
You're gonna notice it any minute.
How do you get her to take off?
It's just like a little dance.
That's funny. You know, what if we have a little herd of piglets? So should I build it bigger now or just have to risk having to build another one? Probably be good to have some diversity, different options. Maybe a smaller one for two, and maybe later we could just build the all-out sheep shawl for the— for a big herd or something. We're definitely not going to need this year, are we? They've died and gone to heaven right there. A little bit of grain in that skim milk. Lily wants to try to milk Flossie on her own today. We're gonna help clean her and get her set up, and then we'll try it.
She can't get in.
Lily, you want to carry the tumbler and I'll carry the milk pails? Here, come on, come on, Mr. Brown. Let's go outside, buddy. Come on, buddy. You a Jedi? All good Jedi get up early in the morning and go.
Really?
All right, let's wash her. Here, Becca, you get the main captain's chair. Ted, you want to keep her company? She wants me to go get her the audiobook. Fair enough. Rebecca, have you seen my phone? I have it. Sorry, why isn't it plugged in? Oh shoot, it's probably back in the back. What size for this pig shelter? The current pig shelter is 4x6, so it needs to be at least that.
So 3x3 is too small, huh?
Yeah, 3x3 is too small. That's your first guess? I was thinking 6x6 maybe.
Isn't that really big?
That is kind of big, so maybe we should make it small. Maybe we should make a 4x6 Shaw. Lily, what book you want?
I know, because I'm going to sleep.
While you listen to your audiobook and milk, I'm going to tidy up around here, okay? I'll be working to tidy up right here while Lily milks right there. All right, what'd you get done, Lily? Good job. I'll finish her off for you, okay?
I can still milk at the peak.
Okay, come here, come here. Oh my gosh. You think he likes you?
Oh yes, he loves me.
You think he would stay with you or would he go and want to go inside?
He would probably stay down here.
Okay, let's see.
You want to stay with me?
You can get off this one.
Yes.
Oh yes, look at this seed book. What are you planting?
I'm planting your square foot garden.
Oh, you haven't done that yet?
No, I've got to do it right now. Okay, I'm going to take one square of lettuce off. And I'm gonna do it in herbs. Okay, basil and dill. And then, um, that way we can ferment. Yeah, with this.
So we're planting in the next instant chicken garden herbs, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, beans, cukes, and pumpkins.
Fun, because like I got a ton of— like my peppers are finally starting to come up.
Look, you got peppers coming. Peppers, they're so hard to germinate.
They are.
And this is your tomatoes?
Tomatoes.
Tomatoes are very hard to germinate. Yeah, it's funny because they're not hard to volunteer.
These are not— these are peppers.
Where's your tomatoes?
These are tomatoes and these are tomatoes.
Oh wow, you have some good success. Yeah, look at all those tomatoes. Good job. What's the word, Beck?
What's the word? What do you mean?
You got my stuff planted?
I did.
Where is it? It's, um, you're gonna run out of room in your greenhouse. Hey, when's your shade cloth coming? Um, because the heat's coming.
Well, it's a 2-week— it's a custom.
Oh, okay.
It takes a little bit longer. Um, I did get some stuff from that order that I did order.
Okay.
But, um, I haven't gotten a shipping notification. But I had some extra space, so I went ahead and planted some more things.
Yeah, well, look at this though for the chicken garden. This is going into the chicken garden, the one that's resting, I think not this Thursday but next. This is gonna get too big, it's gonna need transplanted sooner. Um, Maybe the spinach and the Swiss chard could use some more time in here for sure. Yeah, I've not been throwing— I haven't been putting our wastewater down the drain. I've been putting it in here. No, yeah, I'm talking to— I'm talking to the vlog fans. Oh, can they even see me over here? Then we pour it into these. There's some urine in there, 20 to 1. You know, I wasn't sure about putting the asparagus and strawberries there because theoretically they don't need that many visits, but they've been getting a lot of attention because they're close. And we have something to do with our wastewater now. I should show you guys this hack of a fix one of you guys told me about. So our spigot was leaking. He said just get one of those simple shutoff adapters at the end. There we go. And then all the pressure's on this shutoff. That's its one job. It's a lot for this to be holding back water all the time. It's not so much for this to be holding back water. So now we get to keep it on. Now our water's on all the time, and I just got to turn it on. I don't have to walk back and forth from the water, and we have no leaks. Okay, here are my sheep shawl plans, and here are all the links to most of it from the Chick Shaw plan. I'm making an order online, so we just have to pick it up, but we're gonna use it up as much as we can. We have a micro Shaw that we're not using anymore that we can use some of the parts off of. Turkey Shaw, gonna break it out this year. But anyway, oh yeah, we got enough, uh, seeing if we had enough, enough bolts on either side. We're going to use those wheels. We have the axles. Yeah, so we can use the whole wheel setup. We don't have to order any of the wheel parts. All right, it's time to plunge, but I want to get this order in because it takes them a few hours, hopefully not days, to get this order ready. We don't have to order a new solar energizer. We're going to follow behind the Luchadors if we can use that one. Randolph's hopefully going to continue working on getting this fenced in, and we won't need that energizer on our chickens. Let's place this order. The kids are waiting, they're ready to plunge. It's a little warmer, they all like it then. All right, y'all ready for this? Yeah, yeah, I've ordered the pig shot, Lowe's. They said they're having high demand, they'll email me, so I don't know. Normally it's a day or so, but maybe it'll be more.
I hope it doesn't take days.
I would rather order it online and just go pick it up, even if I have to wait a couple days, right? Oh yeah, then to go find all that stuff.
Well, it's probably that just so many more people are doing pickup.
Yeah, they're encouraging that.
That was a good boy. Still high, kids.
Here he comes, Mom. Look who's back!
Hey, hey!
With a nifty little machine. Well, they said that's a brand new one. I ain't rented it but one time. You're the first one to rent it? Yeah, or the second one. Nice. You're just gonna Mark the holes, dig it, and take it back. Yeah, they rent it by the hour or by the day? They'll do a half a day if I can get it back. There you go. Okay, well, I'll leave you alone. I'll leave you to it. Check this out, it's got wheels. You can move it wherever you want to. That isn't even like the one you have to hold and lug, man. This is nice. All right, we're gonna have to check this out later when you get going. Randolph's here helping us install Chicken fence. Okay, you see our new fence? The Randolph did a great job with it. Well, it's going to serve multi-purpose— a fence for our yard but also a fence for our chickens. We're going to put poultry wire on the inside where the chickens are, fence right here, and then down through there. There's what it's about, guys. Moving those pigs, building the pig shelter. Mr. Brown, that's what it's about right there. Bacon on the plate. We're doing it for something. Just made the order for the pig shop. Pig shop. All right, been placing a Premier One order for our cow fence, working on that together with Rebecca. Randolph's in the ground.
Is it working? Okay, good. Oh, you already dug All the—
that's the way to do it.
Easier.
Indeed it was easier. Now it's 3:30, time to do chores.
You want to go with Yeah, I need to, um, I'm trying to find something that is in the member area that I saw earlier so I can order it real fast.
What?
It's just some seeds. More seeds!
You're on that, I'm gonna go start on the afternoon chores.
All right, what are you doing so that I can catch up with you?
Well, I guess we'll move everybody and then if we have time we'll work on— we need to get the perimeter set for the silvo pasture. The cows will be there very soon. So we'll work on setting in posts. That little rascal, I think Jonah's out there on his own accord. Look at that, I think he's moving the sheep and cows right now. What's going on, Lily?
Water. We're gonna play in the water.
Okay, we're gonna fill up Sally. Jona, will you get a, uh, a screw, some screws, and let's do this board? Okay, hop in the fence. Yeah, we're gonna do the lucha doors. Go near the pole to climb, then you don't put so much pressure on the wire. You got to get the little pigs greens too, okay? Even though they're on grass, it's not really great grass. It's fine. Do it today. You're going to push, I'm going to pull.
Yeah.
Look, we might have to screw it back together. Hey, you got your guard dog.
I got my guard dog here.
Yeah, we're going to need to screw it together, honey. We're going to fix where Flossy breached yesterday. Okay, unscrew those first.
I, I didn't bring that bit.
Oh, you didn't? What bit did you bring?
Star.
That's not a star bit. No, it isn't. We got to go get screws. While we're at it, let's get the flags for marking our perimeter. Oh, and the wheel, wheel measurer. Where you— where did you put the wheel measurer? I saw you walking around with it earlier.
It's— I know where it is.
So happy to Papa, he likes to get in between us.
All right, I got the flags. That was easy. Waiting on y'all. I'm waiting back. You're funny.
Come, come close.
Uh-oh.
Oh, you're serious? Oh my gosh, help us, I pray. You water your plants, Stephanie? I am right now. I had a— I had an up turn them on you.
Look at this! Look, we got at least 2 big pumpkins. I might grow me a pumpkin and enter into the fair.
Sounds like a plan.
I got stuff all over that.
Okay. Hey, you got your part? Did you get a drill bit? Sweet. You're gonna put it right back, right?
Yeah.
Hey, did you find the reel? Yes, we need the reel and a couple rebar posts for marking the line. Uh, do you want to go with us? You don't have to.
No, I don't want to go.
What do you want to do?
I guess I'll go swim in that trough.
That's fine, that's fine. Go have fun.
Okay, got that ready.
Why? Are you getting warmed up for climbing the mountain? Yep. She ain't buying it. What, you ain't gonna buy it? Nope. Can I have it? Put them back.
Sally, I'm not buying what you're selling.
We're gonna go mark. Why is it so bright? Oh, you're on the— you're on the Suburban. That's terribly bright. Okay, let's go mark as much as— well, let's get this up and then we'll mark as many posts as we can. Okay, we've got to get enough to encompass the whole new silo pasture area, so if we don't finish marking tonight We'll finish tomorrow morning, and hopefully Arun's available and working tomorrow. He can pound the posts. I thought you were going swimming.
They dumped the trough out.
We'll fill it back up.
I'm just gonna go dive in the creek.
Okay, have fun, bud. Teddy, you gonna be okay?
He's gonna have to be.
We're gonna be right here, okay, bro? Let's draw a straight line from right here. Let's put a rebar in and tie it— tie a string to it, babe. And go down the line. Just tie it in a square knot. Put that loop over it. A square knot is like a shoestring knot, just twice. It's gonna go super fast. All right, tie that. Just, just wrap it around tighter. Do you need me to do it? You got the string?
Hang—
make I can do it and deal with the dog.
Okay. Did you seriously just jump out? You can't carry him. We gotta get some work done. How did you get out? All right, Becky, I got him on a tighter leash.
Hi, Max. Why can't you do this?
