Winning Our Fight Against BURN OUT

In this farm‑vlog style video, Victor Justin Rhodes (Speaker A) walks viewers through a busy, rain‑soaked morning on his family farm. He coordinates moving sheep and cows, milking a cow and initiating a three‑day dry‑off to give the animal a break, and performs fence and trailer work while juggling equipment like buckets, a stainless‑steel scoop, and an umbrella. Throughout the chores he promotes his upcoming two‑year‑long "Permaculture Pigs" documentary, announcing a 48‑hour free online premiere and Kickstarter backer bonuses. The narration interweaves practical farm management tips—rotational grazing, pasture renewal, and animal health decisions—with reflections on how the farm’s ebb‑and‑flow rhythm helps prevent burnout. Family members and crew (Mom, Gideon, Jonah, Jenna, Rebecca, Grandpa Chick, etc.) appear, contributing to the work and adding light‑hearted banter. The video serves both as a day‑in‑the‑life showcase and a call‑to‑action for viewers to watch the documentary and support the project.

Got a good bit of editing done this morning. Beautiful one's feeling better. Look who's feeling better, Gideon. Feeling better. What happened, Mom? You just snapped out of it. Well, I just got better. I guess it was just like a— whatever it was, I'm not sure. He's catching up on his sleep. But this morning I felt a lot better. This morning. I'm quite loaded. Am I going to carry you guys down? What do I do to bring you guys along? Hook you in right there. Yeah, there we go. How's that? As you may know, I'm working on Permaculture Pigs. Big premiere weekend this weekend. 48 hours free viewing for 48 hours only online. I'm gonna try to get a sign up ready for that, so hopefully I've done that by the time this video gets out. Link will be down in the description. What is all this stuff I'm carrying? Give me one second. Well, we're carrying a tumbler of hot soapy water, the buckets, there's two buckets here, a reservoir bucket, catchment bucket. We got clean cloths, I just washed them yesterday. And this is the empty bucket for the dirty cloths. It is raining, we'll be happy for that, it's much needed. Super bummed though, yesterday, yesterday the mic somehow got turned off. It's one of those automatic mics that turns on When the camera turns on, thank God for those. I've lost a lot more audio having to manually turn on the camera, but now it auto turns off. But somehow— always leave it on, but somehow it got turned off, which was so good. I think I can salvage it because we moved the sheep, guys. We moved the sheep. Why I'm making this a big deal is because if these sheep get out of this 3-strand electric, like, are we going to be chasing sheep all over the mountain until dark? I hope not. I hope they go through. I want to get the cows for milking. Thankfully, we remembered to put Moose up. Yes! This is not good. This is not good. You guys are getting all wet. Should maybe get y'all an umbrella. Oh my, that's where they're supposed to be. Well, I was gonna come get an umbrella for the people. These people, they're very, uh, water intolerant. Um, there was an umbrella in the old barn. There was one over there by the creek. Don't ask me. Good luck. Haha. Uh-huh, it's there. Don't ask me why we're keeping our umbrellas by the creek. I have something to do with chiddlers and wind. Hey, you coming to help me with this lane? Yeah, that's great. Oh good, y'all right up top. Mama number 1, mama number 2. Watch out, it's fun! What's going on here, ladies? Come on, get in your stanchion. I'll get you your— I'll get you your stuff. Come on, come through. What's happening here? We having a revolt? How's that? I turn the light on out here, so dark from the rain. I'm looking for the stainless steel scoop that's supposed to be in the alfalfa buckets. Come on, come on, let's go, let's go. Well, there it is. I guess I opened the wrong one. Okay, okay, your slobbery mess. Gosh, she gets a 3-day break. We're drying her off. 2 and a half, so half the ration. RC Gold. And then we're not milking you tomorrow. For 3 days. This is the last go, okay? Should be happy to get the break. Wow, it's really coming down. Listen how bad it's coming down. You guys up there again? You guys up in the fort? Where are they? All right, this is always sort of a sad but relieving moment. That's it. We're gonna leave her dry for 3, 3 days. She's gonna have a calf in 2 months, so we'll milk her one more time and let her completely dry off. It's exciting or relieving because we gotta— we get a time off. I mean, that's Probably why we don't burn out is that this way and the style of farming, it ebbs and flows. We're going to a season of slowdown, which keeps us lasting. Started starting to be a hair more cooperative. Is that from the castration? Has that calmed you down a bit? We've heard Jersey bulls can be pretty ornery. Bear had his moments, so I can't imagine a bull. Bear was castrated. You seem to have even more spirit than Bear. Hmm, you got more spirit than Bear, kind of like your aunt. Are you serious? That's one way to get over there. Really? You have to go over the buckets and wrap yourself around the fork. You don't like the neck rub either, huh? She's eating some of Mama's alfalfa. Your mama needs all that, so you eat this, okay? You eat that. Hi, mucho leche! 2 gallons. Absolutely beautiful day. Do I even need this sweater? No, I need the sweater in this porch, but I bet you I'm gonna warm up. You guys ready to move some sheep and cows? It should be an easy move today. Jonah, when you're gonna finish the Luchador's mineral— the other mineral tray? Oh, you know what we can do, guys? If we— let's hurry up and do our chores. And if we have any time, we'll put the trailer and the tractor up. The trailer and all the— and all the meat shawls. Yes. Okay. All right, let's hurry up and do our chores. All right, I got a ton done on permaculture pigs. I'm going through it. I'm gonna have to do a narration to link the different sections. It was an amazing 2-year journey with pigs. What was your favorite part about raising pigs? The bacon. Okay. Anything else? And they ate all your scraps. Taking them on walks, eating our scraps, the pig port, the forested system, the garden system, and giving them skin milk. Yeah, running them in the chickens. Man, 2 years, a lot of adventures to be had with pigs. I'm going to show you guys that full movie this weekend, por nada, for nothing, for free. But 48 hours only. And all you Kickstarter people, you're gonna get your download, you're gonna get all your bonuses. A lot of stuff's gonna be dripping out. Yes, it used to be raining, now there's hardly a cloud in the sky. Okay, and shortly after— some of you are wondering, well, when can I buy it? When can I get the documentary? It'll go up for sale officially right after that weekend, right after the weekend. So next week, you guys play that game that— hey, okay. Boy, it's fun to have all this crew. Everybody's going. All we're missing is Mom, and she's going over my edit and not pushing it too hard today. Look at this, guys. They mowed that down so good. Wow, the meat shaw. Let's get it up, John, while we're out here. Come on, guys. All right, you put the Energizer and the water in the tray. I'll start rolling up this fence. You can put the other fence up on it. The monster shaw. Why are we calling it the meat shaw? That's for the sea monster. That's the monster shaw. Not bad. If you need to make yourself useful and hold on to the nets, guys. Okay. I see Grandpa Chick never made it to any posse. Where have you been staying, buddy? Your posse's way across our house. He's been going to the motel. His motel. He's been going to the hotel. I'm pretty happy this meat shaw made it 2 seasons. Still going real strong. All right, they got more damage. Rod, you meanos over here. Now you step your end. Uh-oh, I don't know, can I do it? Yeah. So, so high I can do it. All right, we got this leaning up against the wall. Doesn't take up much room at all. A couple shims so it's not sitting on the ground. Come on, let's go move the sheep chute. We only have 35 minutes now. May— yeah, maybe, just maybe we'll have time to get that trailer in. Jenna's putting up the new sheep fence. We've already moved the cows. They're going up towards the top of our pasture, some of the poorest part of our land. There's no better way to improve it than to put these ruminants on it, to mow it, to poop on it, and through rotational grazing, giving them daily paddocks. They have to— they have no choice. And they'll eat it. Look, they're eating it. They're having a good time. It's giving them a choice. They'd be down there. And if they were down there, grass would start growing back. It wouldn't be fully mature and they'd eat it. Just destroy it. But then guess what would come up? The weeds. Then all these weeds would just thrive. Oh, don't box Phyllis in. Gotta get her out. Open it up for the sheep. Look, they know. You guys aren't dumb when it comes to new pasture. Rebecca, is that our bacon from this year? It is. It's 4-week-ago bacon. Okay, that's about as fresh bacon as you can get. That's right.
