So today we're talking about deciding because. Because it is such a huge influence on how everything goes in front of that. So what our choices are. You influence everything about our life. And I'm going to give you context here and why. I decided to change the topic today because last night I didn't get to sleep until 2 in the morning, trying to get to sleep at 10 at night. So that influences how I feel, the energy I have, the decisions I'm making. But here's how it typically plays out. So I didn't get a lot of sleep last night. That's the circumstance, that's the thing that happens. But we tend to want to make that mean something. So for me, I would make that mean that I have low energy, and maybe that's a fact, maybe I have low energy, but I'd make it mean that I'm going to have a bad day. So my day is going to be crummy because I didn't get enough sleep or I won't be able to work out as well or I'm not going to be able to get as much done or my mood is going to be bad. So I've made all of those meanings happen because I didn't get enough sleep. So I'm going to give you another example. Not too long ago, I was working with a team and this team had. They ended up losing a game and that turned into everybody feeling down Conflict in the dressing room, all sorts of things. And it happened to be the end of the season, the end of a lot of work together, the end of a lot of triumph as well. And then this team just totally broke down. So there's the. What happened? There was a loss, but then other people made it mean that so and so was to blame or we failed or this season sucked because of this last loss. But none of that is true. If we take a look at what actually happened. I didn't get sleep last night. Or the team lost. And separate it to just the thing that happened. Or even call it circumstance. Say somebody cut you off when you're driving. That's just circumstance. Something happened. But what do you make it mean? That is what's going to influence everything that goes in front of the rest of your day. What do you make it mean? So I have a choice when I wake up this morning and I feel like crap. So very little sleep. The sleep I did have was poor quality, you know, looking at less than four hours. And I have a ton to do. It's quarter end, year end, month end. There are all sorts of fun things coming up and booked for my day and where I need to show up. So I can make it mean that I'm gonna have a bad day. I'm gonna be in a crappy mood. The fact that my energy level's low is gonna wreck my workout and wreck everything else that I have planned. Or I can make it mean that I know my energy is gonna be down. What do I need to do in order to be who I need to be for the rest of the day? Do I need to get my walk in and go a little lighter on my lift? Do I need to listen to something really motivational and positive? Do I need to throw some music on? Think of the team that I gave you as an example. What do they need to do in order to reset that mind and take a look at what happened? We finished the season and we lost. Now, what do we make that mean? Does that mean that we have to work harder next season? Does it mean we have to bond more closely in order to make the team unit function its best? Does it mean we need to feel what it feels like to lose so that we know we don't want to go here again? Does it mean they can choose what it means? What does it mean when that person cuts you off, that circumstance happens? That thing it happened? What do we make it mean? Do we make it mean they're an asshole? Do we make it mean that it's going to be a bad day now because I got cut off and now I'm slowed in how I get to my workplace or whatever is coming next for you. What we make things mean determines what's going to happen next for us, how we're going to feel about it, how we're going to perform. So this was an impromptu topic today. I wasn't planning on. I planned on talking on something else, but because it was so in my space and the temptation is there to do the auto programming, whatever we learned from our parents, whatever habits we created in the past, whatever has set the stage before to have us go into that negative mindset or low energy or poor decision making, whatever is our programming, we can reprogram and we can have that choice. So that's why I brought this topic in today because it's so in my space, that choice today of going, okay, is my day going to be tanked? Is my energy going to be low? Am I going to miss my workouts? Am I going to be subpar when it comes to the people that I connect with today, the choice is yours. Instead, choose. What do you need to do to bring the energy back up? What do you need to do to bring the connection back in? What do you need to do to find the positive message in whatever circumstance was poor? So take your poor circumstances, take the things that aren't working for you or whatever happened, and let it stand alone before you give it meaning. And then decide what meaning you want to give it that serves your next purpose, that serves where you want to go and how you can best connect, serve, perform in whatever you're doing in your life. Separate the circumstance, separate it out. There's your mindset Monday, guys. I hope this helps your day. I hope this helps your week. I hope this starts your month in a fantastic way. And I got to think of some pranks today because it's April Fools. So have a great day, guys.
