Okay, so last week we talked about creating clarity. And that knowledge is power, but clarity is what really directs you to get in the direction that you want to go and get your focus for what you want to achieve. So now we're going to take a step further. So now that you have clarity and you're clear on what direction you need to go and what you want, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to take action. So many of us fall into that procrastination mode or find a million other things that seem seem really important and then we don't go and do the thing that's really, really important to us, something really meaningful to us. So this is where creating urgency. And I'm going to teach you how the best ways to create urgency around the thing that you really want. So if I think back to my university days, I didn't realize how much of a procrastinator I was until I found myself pulling a bunch of all nighters for papers for, for studying, for exams, all sorts of things. Because throughout the school year I could find so many other reasons to do other things instead of what project that was due or test that I needed to study for. So if that's you, you found that that's the case for work, or maybe getting in shape for a team, or maybe it is just plain old getting in shape or weight loss, or maybe it's getting that skill that you always wanted but you never got around to learning the skill. So let's create some urgency around the thing. What we do as number one, is ask yourself the question, who needs you? So who needs you? If you think of that and you take a look at that question, who needs you? Then the answers start to bubble up. Your team, your family, your company. Maybe you have a company, maybe it's your clients, so you know that you're needed. And this can create a real important reason why you're going to take action on the thing that you need to take action on. An example for me, that was very powerful earlier in my Life. I was around 30 years old and my oldest daughter was around 3 years old. And I was in a pretty toxic relationship. And I know that I would have stayed in that relationship with much longer than I did if it wasn't for my daughter. Because I knew she needed me more than anything in the world to take care of her and take care of her well and give her a really good example. And so that her need of me is what prompted me to take action when I probably wouldn't have had the strength or the urgency to do so if it weren't for her. So that's a pretty powerful example of someone really needing a parent, but at the same time knowing that that person may not have had enough strength to take action otherwise. So when you ask yourself who needs you? And you really dig into that and you really dive into what it's like for them if you aren't at your best self. So if it means taking action on a career goal, sport goal, a personal goal, know that whoever needs you, needs the best version of you, the most skilled version of you, the happiest version of you, the healthiest version of you. And once you really embrace that and understand that, that they need the best version of you, that's when you start to take action and have urgency when you wouldn't have. So that's number one, asking yourself the question who needs you? Number two is know why? Why? Asking yourself why this is a must for you. Why do you need to take action in this thing? Is it because, for instance, for someone who, if I think of my husband, for someone who, if it's really important for them to be their best, they can be at their sport and that's really a big why for them, then what is the best in their sport? It's the Olympics, it's the pinnacle of sport. So then that becomes a huge driver and that creates urgency as to why you do the day to day things that really make the difference. So that creates urgency because the why for that person is being their best. They have to be their best. They are driven to be their best. What creates the best? What is the best? Well, it's the Olympics and on they go. So take a look at number one, who needs you. Number two, know why? Why is this important to you? What happens if you don't take action on this? Why must you take action now? And number three, proximity is power. You've heard me say this before, but it's so important. Proximity is power. Level up who you are hanging out with. If you're In a team sport or in group settings at work, then hang with the people who are more productive, more positive, are doing the things that you want to do. That makes a huge difference in what you're going to do and what you're actually going to take action on. So courage or excellence is contagious. Courage, excellence, the people you're around, it's all contagious. So guess what? So is negativity and lethargy and any of the other things you may not want in your life, that's contagious too. So who you are hanging out with, that proximity is key. And let's just say that you're in a team environment. Typically we say, and that team could be a work environment, could be a school environment, could be a physical sport team. But typically those teams are divided into thirds and those thirds are, you know, that third that's really motivated, really driven all the time, the third that could go either way, and then the third that's really kind of being dragged along, that's typically what we're looking at in an entire sport team. So when you look at an environment that has a culture as a whole that is really positive and really motivated and contributing and giving, then a new person coming in is more likely to take that action. Those types of attributes and because they are influenced by the people that they're around, you take a new sports team and you have a really positive culture. You have a newbie come in who's negative and guess what? They are either going to change that attitude. If they've been a complainer, they're going to stop complaining or they're going to be off the team. That's how it will work. So choose wisely as to who you surround yourself with in that proximity that will help you level up. So, so those are the three things to really create urgency and provide more incentive for you to take the action that you want that's really important. Not the menial little time wasting action that's causing your procrastination, but the action that's gonna get you where you wanna go in life. So again, number one, who needs you refresh? Why are you important to other people? Why is it important for you to be your best self and be the best version of yourself? And number two, know why you are going to want to have that result, know why it's important to you. And number three, proximity is power. Make sure you are hanging with the people who have the attributes or do the things that you want to be doing as well. It's really important. Courage is contagious. Excellence is contagious. Be around those people that make that difference for you. So I hope this is helpful. I hope this creates urgency in the direction that you want to go today. Have a fantastic week, everybody. Happy Monday, and I look forward to seeing you. Look forward to seeing you soon.
