EP93 Mindset Monday - Vitality v Disease
28 Jan 2026 · 18 min
Solo Mindset Monday episode by Kari Schneider focused on "vitality versus disease," applying the distinction specifically to SARS‑CoV‑2/COVID‑19. Schneider clarifies that SARS‑CoV‑2 is the virus and COVID‑19 is the disease, notes that the virus is an RNA virus prone to mutation, and reports an incubation period typically 2–14 days (median ~5–6; possible longer outliers). She emphasizes viral load as a key factor (reports mean viral load ~60x higher in severe versus mild cases) and points listeners to nextstrain.org for tracking viral spread. Schneider broadens perspective by comparing COVID deaths to other major causes (cancer, heart disease, road accidents, suicide) and stresses prevention: hygiene, nutrition, exercise, time outdoors, social/spiritual connection, limiting fear/news exposure, and building daily practices that boost immunity. She states she is neither strictly pro- nor anti‑vaccine and invites open dialogue.

This is the Empowered athlete podcast Mindset Monday. 10 minutes with Kari Schneider to learn new mindset tactics and tricks to optimize your performance in sport, business, and life. Okay, so today we're talking about vitality versus disease, and I'm going live on my public Facebook feed. So this is really nerve wracking for me because I usually do truth bombs in my private groups. I'm pretty liberal with whatever I say. And going live on here is a little nerve wracking because I'm talking about vitality versus disease and I'm not talking about this in general. I'm gonna apply this specifically to sars. Covid. That's what makes me nervous about it, because I'm not a person that puts out information based on polarizing people. I'm a person who puts out health information that's based on inclusivity, that's based on everybody's best health, everybody's best vitality. So I know that this is such a polarizing topic that I want to be really aware and really conscious about how this lands for people. So here it is. I did a truth bomb Tuesday publicly live way, way early on about COVID and some of the things I was recommending in terms of washing your hands for 20 seconds, that was the best way to rid yourself of the virus. Not touching your hands and face and things like that. Those things are still all true. I also posted about a lot of other global deaths so that people could really understand the bigger picture. Because one of the things about health is really understanding the bigger picture. And then what works for you, Specifically, bigger picture. What works for you? Not everybody's going to eat a big salad every day. Not everybody is going to run 5k every day. You have to find what works for you for your best health. Well, the same is going to go for what you can absorb with the amounts of information that's coming in about COVID But what I'm not hearing, and this is what driving me crazy about this entire conversation, this entire pandemic, is I'm not hearing people have conversations about best health. I'm not hearing people have conversations about what's going to be really, really good for boosting your immune system right now. What's going to be really, really good for having your best mindset during COVID What's going to be really good for protecting your, your family the most in a space of prevention instead of reaction. That's the difference. Prevention versus reaction. I know we're all in a reactive mode, and we have to be right now however, what does it look like to have your best health? I'm going to give you some information on here that maybe information that you haven't heard, because this isn't the stuff that's coming across on the news. Everything that's coming across on the news is the new Covid numbers, the new death rates, the new explosive spots in the US that's what's coming across. And everybody worrying about the fall school year. That's what I'm hearing on the news sources. But what I'm not hearing about is how do we live our most connected life? How do we boost our mindset, vitality? How do we live with our best physicality and our physical health so that our immune system is at its best? Here's the other thing you don't hear a lot about, and that is that there are a whole bunch of people who have been exposed to people with COVID 19, people with the coronavirus, and they have not become infected. And people don't know why. But I do know some people myself who have been around people in very close proximity. I'm talking about taking care of in laws with COVID 19 and the person who's the caregiver not getting sick. I'm talking about living in vacation mode with an entire family and a bunch of people get sick with COVID and one person doesn't. There are some things that are going on out there that we don't understand and it has to do with our own personal health and it's not understood. So we need to really emphasize, we need to really support our own best health. So here are some things that, if you don't know this already, I'm coming from a different perspective. I'm not looking to have the spotlight on me about the news or anything like that. I'm looking to provide the best health information. And I've avoided talking about COVID for the last three months since I did that first post. But now I'm talking about it here. So Truth bomb, it's called SARS CoV2. That is the name of the virus. So SARS CoV2. SARS is severe acute respiratory syndrome, coronavirus, and then two, that is the virus that causes COVID19. COVID19 is separate from SARS2. It's caused by the virus. But the infectious disease is COVID 19 that's causing the problems or the deaths. So SARS CoV 2 is the virus that causes COVID 19. That's the first, first thing the problem with this, when it comes to a vaccine, I Am to be clear here, I am not pro vaccine and I'm not anti vaccine. And I know that right there is going to have a whole bunch of people like, well, you have to be one or you have to be the other. No, I just don't know enough. There's a whole bunch of information that I know and I don't know enough to say I'm totally pro vaccine and I'm totally anti vaccine. There's a lot that's unknown, but here's what I do know in this situation. This is an RNA virus. That means it mutates a lot. There hasn't been a vaccine made for SARS that was effective. So now we're looking to have a vaccine for this scenario with the infectious part of COVID 19. And guess what, it's an RNA virus. It will mutate a lot. So even if there is a vaccine, we're likely gonna be in a situation where it mutates. So hopefully if a vaccine is created, it's one that can be adapted to the mutations that come along. So that's important to know, I think, as a educated health consumer. So number two, there are seven diseases that have been the most problematic for Covid or for. There are seven coronavirus diseases. The three that are most problematic are MERS, SARS and COVID 19. Because in part, there's a longer incubation period. The longer incubation period means that that's why it gets spread, because a lot of people don't realize that they might be carrying it because of that longer incubation and then it gets passed around more easily. So that's the second thing. Number three, that incubation period is between two days and 14 days with a median of five to six days. But the longest stage would be 24 days. So you got a median of five to six days of that incubation period, but going typically from two days to 14 days. Number four, and this is the one that I really wanted to get to for the best health. The best information that you can get to and that is viral load. I don't know if I've never come across this in the news. I had to dig through the research to find this, but it's viral load. What happens with viral load? The fewer harmful viruses that you have in your body, then the better for you. So here's the data. The data says that the people with the most severe cases of COVID 19 have had a mean viral load of 60 times higher than those who had mild cases. So your viral load, what you are carrying around in your body as extra viruses makes a difference for not only the severity of, of getting it, but perhaps even if you get it. And this is what's not understood and this is why I'm having this conversation right now so that you can protect yourself more. Okay, so there is a site called nextstrain.org and what it looks at, it's a almost, almost live time view of what's happening in the world in terms of growth or spread, spread of the viruses across the world. And you can look for Coronavirus nextstrain.org and you can see where they're mushrooming overall. If you are just listening to this in the middle of this, make sure you listen from the beginning so you really understand the context here. So that's what's going on there. When it comes to COVID deaths worldwide, we're looking at cases of 16.5 million recovered, almost 10 million recovered. And we're looking at about 650 or over 650,000 deaths of COVID But here's one of the most important things I want to give you and that's perspective. It's horrible to think of that many deaths in the world from anything. But I also want you to understand how many other deaths there are in the world of other things as well. So cancer in US alone, there are over 600,000 deaths a year in US alone. When it comes to the world, it is a massive amount of deaths per year. So we have major deaths from cancer. That is something that we're working on as well. Another thing we work on for our best health is heart disease. We're looking at 3.4 million deaths worldwide and almost 650,000 deaths in the US alone annually. 3.4 million. It is the highest cause of death in the world is heart disease. We have some level of control over that when it comes to the choices we make for our health. 1.35 million global deaths from car accidents. 1.35 million annually each year. Almost a million and a half deaths from car accidents. It's insane when we look at the overall deaths that are happening. Suicides. Suicides are crushing Covid right now by 1 to 1.5. It's predicted to be 1.5 million suicides worldwide in 2020. It's typically been between 1 and 1.5. It's being predicted to be 1.5 million deaths by suicide in 2020 in the world. Now I want you to really grasp this because I have children. I care about children deeply. I care about their Future health. And we look at annually, in just the US alone, or over 460,000 missing children. I'm not talking missing people, I'm not talking missing adults, I'm talking missing children. And I'm not even talking the world. I'm talking the U.S. 460,000 missing children in the U.S. i'm not saying this to have you have a panic attack or freak out. I'm telling you this because all our focus is going on what we focus on, focus on. That's where our energy goes. We are focusing on coronavirus, SARS, COV2 and COVID19. That's what we're focusing on right now. And what we focus on, that's where all of our energy is going to go. And that's where our energy is going. Yet when you look at suicides, you look at missing children, you look at cancers, you look at heart disease, those are easily blowing this pandemic out of the water. Now, yes, we are slowing this pandemic, but we also know there's big questions around how the deaths are being reported, especially when people have comorbidities. So I don't want this to be an awful conversation about, about the horrible things with a pandemic because we hear so much about that. What I want this to be is a conversation about health. What can we control? We can't control what the government mandates, we can't control the overall things that are going on in other countries. But what we can control is our own health. We can control how we boost our own immune system. We can control how we manage our own mindset. We can control who we communicate with, who we hang out with, where we go outside, whether we get some time in nature, whether we exercise you. These are the things we can control. We can control our hygiene. We can control what we choose to eat on the day to day. These are the things that are about best health. And this is what I teach on. And that is why I'm having this conversation, no matter how freaking uncomfortable it is for me. Because I didn't want to talk about COVID at all. And I've avoided talking about COVID in my private groups, on my podcast, in my anything that I'm doing. I've avoided talking about COVID And except for the very, very beginning, I did one post in here. So this is my second post in the last four months about COVID And the reason I'm having this conversation is because I'm not hearing it. I'm not hearing the conversation on the radio. I'm not hearing it in the news, I'm not hearing it on the television. I'm not hearing the conversation about boost your immune system. And I'm not talking about some fad supplement. I'm not talking about, you know, lay out in the sun. And that's the one thing. It's not one thing to have the best immune system, to have the best health, to have your best vitality, to have your best energy. It's not one thing. It's going to be your exercise, it's going to be getting out in nature, it's going to be being in the sunshine, limited amounts. It's going to be having the best, most vital organic food and lots of vegetables and lots of fruits. It's going to be those things. It's going to be your personal connections, it's going to be thinking positive thoughts. It's going to be having a spiritual connection of some sort. It's going to be contributing and having service towards other people. These are the things that are multitude of things, layers and layers and stacking of things that lead to your best immune system, that lead to your best vitality. This is the stuff that clearly I'm passionate about, clearly I believe in. And at the same time, that's not been the conversation. So that's why I'm getting super fresh, uncomfortable to have the conversation here on a public platform. Because it matters. It matters what you do and the choices that you make every day, how much water you drink, whether you worked out, whether you've hugged somebody and loved somebody, whether you've given back to somebody. All of that freaking matters so much right now. So put the focus on those good things. Put the focus on that. Put the focus on all the things that matter in your life that, so that you can elevate the vibration, so that you can elevate the immune system and elevate your own health and have the space around you that brings health and attracts health. And that's the energy that you are bringing. Instead of the focus going to something like the number of COVID deaths in the world, instead focus on the number of people that are supporting other people, the number of people that are rallying together around Black Lives Matter, the numbers, the number of people that are choosing to make healthy choices and find really healthy foods, that is going to be a better focus of your time, of your attention, so that the energy goes toward those things. Have your energy going towards the positive things or things that really matter in your life and to your community and to people around you to have a better Global effect. So we can have a ripple effect that is broader than just sitting in fear and focusing on awful numbers. Don't sit in fear and focus on awful numbers. Take the action and have the focus on your best vitalities. That's what we as the empowered. My company, my team, we focus on mindset vitalities, physical vitalities, spiritual vitality. So you have the best outcomes overall. That is what makes the bigger difference. So set the fear aside. Set, set the awful. Limit the amount of news you're going to listen to, maybe just a bite size amount each day. And spend more time focusing on your connections with your family, more time focusing on the water that you're drinking, the activity that you're having, the outdoors that you want to be in, the fruit and the veggies that you're eating. All of that. That is my wish for you and I'm sending it to you from a space of massive amounts of love because I know we all need that a ton right now. So that's your truth bomb today. Super uncomfortable. I hope you are healthy. I hope you are well. Please bring the comments. I welcome them all. I'm not trying to tell people to believe one thing or not believe another, but simply elevate the focus so that the energy is put towards the things that are serving your best health so that your energy is going towards what really matters. So have a fantastic rest of your day, a fantastic week. Much love to you. Feel free to put comments in. Even if you disagree with anything that I've said, put it in there. I'm open to open dialogues, open conversations, even if they're uncomfortable. I think that's what gets us places. So feel free to comment. You can even put a thumbs down, thumbs up, whatever you want, I don't care. All I care is about bringing up the dialogue of things that support our best health and our best immunity. Instead of a constant stream of dialogue focused on cases and deaths and things like that, I would rather have a dialogue on best health and what we can do to support each other in our best lives, best health and best immunity so that we're not as likely to contract something even if we're freaking exposed to it. Okay, I hope this finds you well. I hope you are healthy, staying safe, doing whatever you need to to physical distance, wash your hands, whatever is mandated at this point. And lots of love to you.
