How is everyone doing today? It is the week leading into the holiday. There's so much going on. So happy Monday, everyone. Today we're talking about now results versus later results. And I chose this topic because I think it's really going to serve you over the holiday time. So what does this look like now results versus later results? I'm really present to this right now because I have just spent two days, 48 hours doing what I call a juice cleanse. But it's not really a juice cleanse. And the reason I say that is because many people, I would typically not tell a client to do any sort of cleanse because it's usually some sort of thing that is to market someone to have some sort of powder or to weight loss or whatever. And it's really not a good thing. So most of the time, if someone hears of a juice cleanse, it's an awful kind of scenario. What I really mean is real juice, real food, and that kind of 48 hours of doing that. So what I would do is do three days, or, sorry, two days of three juices throughout that day. Very alkaline, very full of greens, carrot, ginger, all sorts of amazing nutrients coming my way. Kale, spinach, you name it, and then a smoothie as well in the evening that has cashews, has avocado, has fruit, has almonds, all again, sorts of amazing nutrient dense, fat dense things. And then I'll also have some of my greens and my creatine and a little bit of protein. And I'll also have some broth, some organic chicken broth, that kind of thing. So that's what I do for 48 hours. And I've started to do this every season change. So I've started to do this every solstice. And in the beginning, I didn't think I could do it because I couldn't imagine missing my meals. I typically do not miss a meal. And I also didn't want to go on some sort of juice thing that I might lose weight when I'm small enough as it is. And it's, you know, I work really hard to keep my muscle mass, so I don't want to lose that. So in doing this, why the hell would I do a juice cleanse if those are the scenarios that I'm looking at? Well, I'll tell you why. Because when I did it for four days a couple years ago, not quite, maybe a year and a half ago, I felt freaking amazing. And it wasn't just about the physical feeling. It was about my. I couldn't believe how powerful the results were for my mindset and my determination and my ability to follow through with what I said I would do. And so then I just started going, okay, well how could I reduce this and make it something really useful for my mind and for my body and something to represent every season Change. So I'm really paying attention to the time of year when what's going on and not just letting everything pass me by because there's so much that's going on at every time. So the reason I'm telling you this right now is because when I'm in this, it is sometimes so easy it blows my mind. And other times I'm really struggling. And it's a mental struggle more so than a physical struggle. So what you're seeing right now is I'm on the last 30 minutes of the 48 hours of doing this and I feel great. I feel fine. However, in the first 24 hours, on this particular one, this hasn't happened every time. But on this particular one, my mind, my brain started telling me things like, oh, you need to stop. I don't think that you should do this for more than 24 hours. Maybe it's just gonna be a 24 hour one this time, not a 48 hour one this time. And then my brain started to tell me, hey, you know what, you don't need to do this every season change. Why don't you just do this maybe once a year that would be better. You know, you like how you feel and everything, but maybe just once a year. So my brain kept popping thoughts in, in the first 24 hours and I was almost considering them. But it's just my brain reacting to this little hunger signal. That's all that was going on. I didn't need to listen to those thoughts, but that's exactly what was going on those first 24 hours. You know, you don't have to trying to convince me to throw that determination out the window, but because I planned for it. And in the fridge were all my juices set up and in the fridge was my two days worth of smoothies. I had everything set out that, that pre planning is the thing that kept me going for, for the 48 hours. And now I'm on the last 30 minutes of that 48 hours. Now I typically I Don't fast. I never have really fasted other than my 12 hours at night. I do advise some clients to some not to for various hormonal reasons and things like that. However, the power of the mind was unbelievable even yesterday versus today in trying to convince me not to do something for versus the pre planning that I had already done. So I want to point out the now results versus the later result. And there's a big freaking difference between the two. Now results are the thing that are typically looking for reactions. So we're going to distinguish between now results and later results. Number one, a now result is typically something you're reacting so you might feel hunger and go to eat right away. You might be angry and yell. You might think something looks really nice and want it. So those would be now results versus a later result would be planned. I'm planning on going out and getting these particular groceries. I'm planning to do this particular work and I'm going to lay it out and it's going to look like this. Those would be planned scenarios. The now would also be a primitive brain versus the later results are looking at your prefrontal cortex. This is your planning brain. This is your badass super genius. That's what we call it is your badass super genius in and of itself is so ridiculous. The now is your jackpot. The now is you're looking at something. Something along the lines of I'm pulling that crank on that machine that's going to tell me whether I'm winning the jackpot or not. And then you go and spend the money if you won right away and re put it right back in. That's the now result. That's the primitive brain. The later result is going to be going, oh, I'm investing. I'm looking at saving for my future. That would be a later result. And now result is practice. A later result is game. You practice now. You put in the things that you don't want to feel, but you do it anyway because you want the game that comes down the road. Another one would be action based on feeling. You feel the thing, you do the thing, you feel the want, you act on it. The later is action based on decision that's been pre planned. Action based on something that you've decided at a time where you weren't feeling the urge, where you weren't feeling the compulsion, you weren't feeling the hunger. And that's exactly what happened for this juice cleanse for me is that I almost went, no, I'm not doing this. Even though I've done this for a year and a half. I'm not going to do it anymore. But I looked at what I pre planned. I had all my juices set out, I had all my smoothies set out, I had all the things and I kept going. And that is very powerful to tell yourself, hey, I'm following through on exactly what I said I was going to do. And then your brain goes, oh, oh, this has a payoff. Okay, I can do this. I don't have to listen to the voice that says, oh, you don't want to do this right now. So I'm going to give you three steps here. Number one is you're planning and you're practicing and you're adjusting. That is the system plan, practice, adjust. Plan, practice, adjust. The adjustment comes when you've had game day. So if you've planned out your practice schedule, you've planned out your periodization, you've planned out your work week, you've planned all this out, and then you practice it. You actually do it. You put it into practice, day in and day out week. Whether it's your eating plan, whether it's your work schedule, whether it's your practice, your sports schedule, you put that into practice and then it comes to game day. What's game day for you is game day. The meal is game day, the work day is game day. The actual game that you've been practicing for, what is game day for you? And then you see what the results are and you adjust accordingly. Did you really hit the wall on a certain level of performance? Did you really do well on another? And then you adjust your plan for the next one. That is number one. Number two is press pause. You are going to get the urge to do all sorts of things and you're going to have to press pause. What I mean by that is something happens Covid the weather, the holidays, someone reacts to you, something happens. And if you can press pause when that thing happens instead, instead of thinking the thought instead of feeling the thing, if you can press pause, that is a huge, huge skill. Pressing pause makes a huge difference in you being able to decide instead of react. Press the pause button in our reset. This is what we call living in the gap. When we can live in the gap. That is our most powerful life. And the last thing is bloody well skilled schedule. This is where your plan gets put into your life in a concrete way. If you can put your plan into your life in a concrete manner, then it's actually more likely for it to occur. This is where we make meal plans instead of a food journal. This is where we follow our schedule and our appointments instead of just saying we're going to do it and then we lost our time. This is where we put the practice in. In a practice in order to perform in a. These are the things that become critical for long term performance. And you feeling the reliability on your own brain. You do what you say you're going to do. That is where your confidence goes up and that's the difference between now results that are very reactive in nature and later results that are something that you created with purpose. You created with deliberate decision. That is what's there for you today. The reason this is so important around the holiday time is because there's so many things that are happening that potentially aren't what you want. And if they're not what you want, then plan for something that's going to fulfill you, grow your heart, feel connected, do the things now that will have that feeling of connection and family down the road or the feeling of fulfillment. When it comes to whatever you need, whether it's your work, your sport or your self care. Go for it guys. Do what you need to today and the rest of this week. I know you've got this. I know this is a challenging time and at the same time you can do this. Have a wonderful day. Have a wonderful rest of your week. Love to you Sam.
