Welcome. Welcome to Mindset Monday.
Here we are on another Monday and.
We are wrapping up our team acronym.
For our team culture.
This is the acronym that we have created to really define how we want our culture to be in our empowered team, our group coaching program and the M. We are on M. We've done the T, the E, the A and now we're on M. The T is together. The E is empower. The A is action.
And the M. Finally we are opening.
Up this last letter and it is M for motivation. And motivation is not probably the definition you you may think of.
Motivation is what I call motive for action.
So motivation really becomes your why. It's your motive for action and I'd like you to think of that when someone asks something like what is your motivation? Where is my motivation? I have no motivation. Consider Those lines, where is your motivation? Think of it in terms of what is your why? Where is your why? I have no motivation. I have no motive for action. Why would I take action? It's your motive for action. What is your why? I have no why. If there is no why, there is no motive for action. Chances are a person will not take any action.
So we want to understand within our group cultures, what is our motivation? What is our motive for action? What is our why? Why is what we do important?
So I know firsthand, because I've created any of this, all of this, because of what is so meaningful to me and hoping in the hopes that I can help other people make a difference for themselves and those that they touch. So my why, my real motivation behind what I do is to really allow people to step into their best. When that the key right there, that one thing is the thing that provides fulfillment, happiness, connection, all the things that people really, really want. They want to feel like they have a place in the world. They want to feel like there's growth and importance and that they're contributing to something that's larger than themselves.
And in order to have that, in order to really make a difference for other people, it requires personal growth, it requires personal transformation. So for us, our motive for action.
Ends up becoming this real personal and professional narrative.
And there's a few areas that it really lands when it comes to. What's our motive for action?
Part.
Part of it is the who's around.
Us, who is within our proximity.
So the people that I've been exposed to, whether it's leaders or high performance athletes or grassroots athletes or people looking to make a difference in their lives, or my family, all of those who's, all of that proximity, those are all a bunch of my whys. Those are all my motives for action. And they are for you too. Those people that you're around, the environment that you're in, the community that you're in, nature, your workspace, all of those things end up influencing what really matters to you. So when it comes to your motive.
For action, they're what you are, what you have proximity to the people, you have proximity to the environment, you have.
Proximity to the nature, the workspace, all of that is part of your motive for action, your why. The other main part of this is our values and our vision. There's so often that people will come to me in the hopes of attaining a big goal, in the hopes of achieving an outcome. And what they don't realize is that goal or that outcome is their Vision. That's their vision right there. But they haven't stopped to really see that. That's just a part of their big picture. That goal or that outcome is just this little snapshot in a huge movie that's called their life. And this is where understanding our own values and really seeing the vision that we want to create in our life that is critical within this motive for action, within our why. Sometimes we're struggling with motivation, we're struggling with our why, because we haven't really looked to see what we'd like to.
Create for our future. And we haven't gotten clear about what matters to us right now.
What are the characteristics, what are the.
Values that really matter to us right now. So values are critical for understanding our.
Own why, our own motives for action.
And where people get lost on this, I see this all the time, is that they are. They have a memory of their values, but they haven't acknowledged or realized that their values have changed. This happens all the time in people who. An easy example is people who have children. And before they had children, certain things were clear and important to them and they were their values whether they realized them or not. And then after they have children, the values shift, the priorities shift, and there has been a values disruption. I call it a values disruption. And then a values evolution. And if we're unaware that this has even happened, what we run into is a values conflict. And what that means is that the.
Value for community or friendship that that.
Might be the value is friendship. And that value maybe used to be number one or two on your values, but then marriage and family came along and value of family went over and was prioritized over the value of friendship. And then where the resistance or the conflict come in is that there's actions that are being taken in alignment with an old value and it doesn't feel right anymore. And those actions really would feel more aligned if they were in alignment with the new value. So between a value's disruption and a value's evolution, and I'll go into those more deeply at another time. And that values conflict. That's where sometimes we find we don't have our motivation.
We've lost our motive for action, our why, or we don't quite have clarity on it anyway. And that's where we may struggle, but this is why it's so key.
Key to have it in a team.
Culture, in a group culture, because when you're clear on your values or the group has a clear values and a clear mission statement and a clear vision that everyone's going toward, then the group is guided. It is a compass. It is the thing that points the direction and says we all go this way. And if those values and vision and the awareness of the proximity around you are not there, then a culture, even the strongest team will struggle because multiple people in a group will be pointed in multiple directions and the group will not be traveling in one direction very fast because everybody's pulling in different directions. That's why common values in a company, common values within a group are key to have a group see a common outcome, a common goal achieved. So that's why we have motivation or motive for action as part of our team.
Company, our team acronym for our culture.
So for you in your purposes, what.
Does this look like, having this guiding, compelling future vision? Sometimes what it might look like is actually revisiting a vision and revisiting a mission statement. There's a few companies that I've been working with lately and it's been surprising to me to know that if an employee was asked or even a higher level leader was asked what the company mission was, they, they often can't answer it or wouldn't know where it is on their website or are uncertain as to whether that's really where the company wants to go. But when all of the people involved in the group or the company, and this could be a sports team, this could be a community, this could be your family. But when all the people involved in that group, whether it's business or not, if everyone has a common mission, imagine, imagine how much faster everyone will get to that goal. If everyone has a common mission, maybe within a family, it's the simplicity of staying connected, connecting in and touching base with each other every day in a personal way. If that was a family mission, imagine how powerful that would be. Imagine what the future vision would look like if that was just the mission. Something that's so simple can be so powerful to draw a group together and understand that all of their actions lead to a greater purpose. That's the group purpose. That something that lives a larger way than each individual does, something that has its own energy and that's the group's culture.
So use M as motive for action. Your why let that motivation really be a part of your culture? Whatever group, whatever area you lead, whatever you are a part of, bring that part to the culture of that group.
That you're involved in.
