Mindset Monday. Anybody notice the time change? How's everybody feeling with the time change? Feeling like there's a little grogginess. Anyone feel groggy today? Starting the week on the Monday, do you feel excited? Do you feel prepared? Do you feel bored, efficient? All of the things coming into a new week on a Monday, that's what Monday brings. And today we're talking about today from yesterday. And what does that mean, today from yesterday? This is one of those things that I notice all the time for myself, my clients, that we forget that everything we did in our past, everything we did yesterday influences exactly what our body's gonna do, how we're mentally gonna show up, how we're gonna feel today. And during a time change, it's an amazing time to really highlight that because we can feel it, we feel it in our bodies right off the hop, when we've got jet lag, when there's a daylight savings times, any of those times, we realize that whatever happened yesterday is affecting us today. We have this really aware feeling of it. So I noticed this a long time ago. I used to love to drink. Most people wouldn't think of this for me. I'm really into my health, I'm really into longevity. I'm really into high performance training and high performance thinking. And a long time ago, I loved to drink alcohol. And so much so that I, you know, drank a fair bit and I planned for when I was going to drink and all of these things. And then I used to say I accidentally quit drinking. And what I meant by that when I said I accidentally quit drinking, it was because I had my first daughter. So I didn't drink for almost two years because of the pregnancy and then nursing. So I wasn't drinking then. And then when I intended to start drinking again, I actually didn't find it was serving me. So I wanted to have a Bailey's in the evening before bed, I wanted to have a glass of wine. I wanted to have just beverages at dinner with people. So I wanted to have all this alcohol. But what I was finding is that it wasn't serving the things that I wanted. At that time, I had a child, I was working full time, I was doing research, and I was competing for the track team at university. So when I was competing and I was training so Hard in track workouts. If anyone knows how hard track workouts are, you can imagine that if I'd had a drink the night before, or two drinks the night before, it would affect me the next day. And it affects all of us. But this is just my example of our concept here. So what happened was, is that I made a rule because my performance, my training, my performance at work, at a high performance sports center, my performance in training, my performance as a parent was so important to me that I thought, okay, well, only on the days that I train, I, I just won't drink the night before on those days. And I thought this was a reasonable rule because, well, I'll just not drink when I'm training without thinking that I was training almost every day. So I did this rule and I followed through with it. I created the rule and then I acted on it every single day where if I was training the next day, I simply wouldn't drink. And it cut out almost all of the alcohol I was drinking. And I felt so much better for my training. I felt so much more clear in my work. I felt so much more present with my daughter. And it exemplifies the concept. Our topic today, which is simply today from yesterday. Everything that we do at any given time affects our future self. It happens from a cellular level right down to how our cells die, how, how hydrated they are, how well they perform. Our health is dependent on everything we did yesterday. Our sleep, our hydration, the foods we ate, how much toxicity was within those foods that our body has to process. That's happening today from yesterday. I ate a ton of salt yesterday. I feel that in my hydration levels today because I have to drink more water. So that would be an example for health. There's another example that I wanted to show within decision making. There's research that has come out recently in neuroscience about our memory. And it turns out that our memory, this area of our brain called the hippocampus, is directly responsible for our future events because it's responsible in our decision making. That's why a lot of people who are losing their memory with dementia and they can't make very good decisions because it turns out our memory, our past events, the way our brain formulates our past events influences our future decisions. So it's another example of how yesterday is affecting everything that happens tomorrow or today from yesterday. So it happens in our decision making. It's clear it happens in our health. You can tell with your eating, drinking, hydration, sunlight exposure outside, you name it, it affects how we Feel the next day on every level. And also in our schedule. I want to pick these three things, our health, our decision making, and our scheduling. Because I think they impact everyone. It doesn't matter whether you're in sport, it doesn't matter whether you're in a high level career, it doesn't matter whether you've got all kinds of things going on in your family. Your health, your decision making and your scheduling are all impacted by what you did yesterday, today, from yesterday. So the question becomes, how do we optimize who we are now so that it affects our future self? Everything that comes in the future happens from what we decide to do in the now or what happened yesterday. So I came up with some questions that can really guide the brain in order for you to have your best performance. The first one is who can I be to honor my future self? Who can I be now to honor my future self? Think of yourself in a day, what does it look like tomorrow? Think of yourself a week from today. What can you do now that honors yourself in a week from today? Think of yourself in a month. That brings us into a new time of year. Think of yourself now. What needs to happen? Who do you need to be in order to have the result for your future self? Same thing for a year, a year from now, what do you need to do? Who do you need to be now in order to honor that year self? We can flash forward 5 years, 10 years, 25 years. The things you're doing right now, who you're being right now, who can you be now to honor your future self in 25 years? Someone recently reminded me of a Mickey Mantle quote that went something along the lines of, if I knew I'd lived this long, I would have treated my body better. And that is exactly how I felt, exactly how I've thought many times with what I've gone through with injuries, chronic injuries, disc pain, chronic pain. So if I knew I'd live this long, now I'm thinking of, in terms of when I'm 100 years old, I'm gonna thank myself for what I'm doing right now. So that's one way to think of it. And then looking at that day, week, month, year all the way into 25 years, what areas right now need more attention? Thinking of your future self, what areas can you serve now that are going to make a big difference for your future self? When you live to be 100 years old, when you want to be thriving at 80, 90, 100 years old, when you want to come out of sport or your career, feeling like you've got lots of life in you because you've really nurtured and been amazing to yourself. The second question is what can I do today to set myself up for success tomorrow? Looking at these areas in your relationships, what can I do today to set myself up for success in my relationship tomorrow? Paul and I are looking at this every single day. What can I do today in my purpose or career or sport to set myself up for success tomorrow? What does it look like? That's the prepping, the planning, the mindset, how you show up for other people. And lastly, what can I do today to set myself up for success in my health tomorrow? Is it my hydration? Is it planning out my best foods and prioritizing with them first before I go into whatever the treat is? We're on no sugar this month, so that'll impact me tomorrow. So those are the questions. Those two main questions. Who can I be to honor my future self and what can I do today to set myself up for success tomorrow? This is the these are the quickest questions to really guide you from this topic of today from yesterday. Everything that you're doing now is going to serve your future self. I hope this serves you today. Have a fantastic rest of your day. Let this guide you powerfully into your week and have a beautiful rest of your week. Happy Monday everyone. Go for it.
