What's up guys? Welcome to Pelvibiz Podcast. I'm your host, Kelly Alhui. Today we're gonna answer this one question. How do I know if I'm making the right decision? How do you know? How do you know you're making the right decision? So you're probably thinking, well, how do I know? And what are we even talking about? So maybe there is a decision of where should I put my office. This happened to me a year something ago where I was actually mobile and I was treating an hour away and then I was treating also by my house, which was again an hour away from all those other patients. So I had my home location where I was treating at. And then an hour away by D.C. i was also treating and I had to make a decision. I had to make a split decision within one hour, where was I going to put my clinic? And there literally was. I took a piece of paper out, I wrote down every single patient in their address and where they actually lived and I just drew out this map and it was, it was even. Half of the patients were by D.C. and half of the patients were by my house. And I had one hour to decide where am I going to put my location. And you know what I said to myself? I said, I built this business because I wanted more time for myself. So, so does it make sense to put my clinic where an hour like an hour away from my house or does it make sense to put my clinic right next to my house for me? I said, you know what, I'm going to risk losing half of my patients and It's a big risk because this is my first investment in an actual space, in an office space. And will they actually drive an hour to come see me or am I going to lose that? And I just said, you know what? I'm going to do what my gut instinct said. And it said, put it next my house so that I could get my time back. So what did I do? I put the clinic right next to my house. It's five minutes away from my house. Okay? And it still is to this day, even though we move locations. And the reason, by the way, it was the best decision I ever made. Best decision I ever made. Because if something goes wrong with laundry, or if the lights are out in the clinic and no one can turn them back on, or if there's a flood in the ceiling and I need to get there, I can get there, whatever it may be. And I have to go to and from the clinic a lot. I can do that in half the time that it would have taken me to do it. You know, if it was an hour away, it would have taken all my time. So I think that's really important to note that sometimes you just got to jump head first. No matter how rational you try to be about the situation, you just got to say, you know what? Why did I do this? I think this is huge. Why did I actually start this? Like, why did I start this business? For me, it was to get my time back. So I would be sabotaging myself if I put it somewhere else. Even though I'd be pleasing my patients and guys within two weeks. Just to finish the story. Within two weeks, all of my patients that were mobile switched to coming in person. Every single one of them within two weeks. And half of them were driving an hour away to come to Orthopubic. It's crazy. So another thing is, is watch your beliefs of what you're telling yourself. Because I thought 100% I'd lose half my clientele and that wasn't the case. So how do you know if you're making the right decision? I mean, that's the question that. That was just one example. Another example of that is hiring. When you hire someone on, how do you know it's the right person? Sometimes, you know, people can put on a good front and then they get in there, especially in pelvic health, and then you're like, oh, well, this person isn't as bubbly to keep people on their schedule. Or, oh, this person doesn't know as much as I thought they did. Or you Know, this person needs to really work on understanding how to convert people. Like, there are things that come up and a lot of times you just have to hire them and see what happens. And I have to say this because I have made mistakes with hiring is every single hire that I've done, I've actually gotten better and better and better at it. Every single time I've gotten a better person than the person that left previously or went somewhere else or whatever else. So sometimes it's just something, a skill that you have to kind of build up and kind of do the thing to then understand truly what you're looking for. Like when I first hired, I had no clue, no clue what the heck, you know, I was looking for. Which I'll create another whole episode on that. We'll have to get into that because that's a whole episode in itself. Another thing you can ask yourself is, you know, how do you, how do you know if you're making the right decision to go to PT school or be in PT school? Or was that the right decision? I look at like this. If I invested $200,000 in PT school, which I did, okay, in debt, student loan debt, does that overall give me the return that I'm asking for? If I just continue to work at a deb job and just did a 9 to 5, no, it would not be worth it. It would have taken me 20 plus years to pay off my student loans. Seriously. Okay? Working for myself, it's taken me a lot shorter time. So then now I look at it and go, okay, does that give me fulfillment? Yes. Does PT give me fulfillment? Yes. Does pelvic health give me fulfillment? Yes. Overall, can I actually pay off my student loans now? Yes. Before, I would have said, nope, it was not worth it, but I didn't know that until after the fact. So that's also another thing is you can make a decision and then afterwards you may have to adjust based on the decision that you actually made and create a different pathway that's going to give you the outcome that you potentially thought that you were going to have, but you didn't have. So for instance, when thinking about PT school, I thought I was going to come out, I'm now a doctor in PT school. I'm going to come out. I was going to make over 100k for sure my first year. I didn't even make that after eight years, guys. So that was kind of a false belief. That maybe, I don't know who led me to think that, but that people led me to think you know, to think that way. And that wasn't the case. So then after the fact, I now have to pivot and go, okay, how am I going to actually pay off the student loan debt to make it worth my investment? Another thing of how do I know how to. If I'm making the right decision? For me personally, it's all about vibes. Like, what vibe is this giving me? Am I scared? Am I feeling very, like, unconfident? If I'm not confident about it, am I, like, terrified? If I'm terrified, that's actually a really good thing because it tells me I'm doing something big. I'm doing something massive, and I like to do big things. Okay? And also, what is my belief? Do I believe in myself? I truly believe in myself. And the reason why I believe in myself is because I've done things that I've definitely failed at, and then I've been able to recover. So that's what's given me my belief to make kind of whatever decision I want. And then, like I said, I can then take that decision and create a plan around that decision if it wasn't the way. If it didn't turn out the way that I wanted it to. So when you guys are trying to make, you know, big decisions in business, I think this is a great question. You know, I don't think many people, you know, ask this question, but, you know, did I make the right decision? Well, when you're trying to make these big decisions, there's no right or wrong. There's literally no right or wrong. It's just, how are you going to handle the situation if it's not the outcomes that you expect? I think that's the bigger question. So how are you going to do that? And do you have the tools and the guidance to actually take that situation and then be able to pivot and do the thing that you truly thought the outcome was going to give you? You know, that's truly what you should be asking yourself. So if you're listening right now and you're like, man, I gotta make a big decision about this, my advice for that is don't overthink it, okay? Do not overthink it and just say, okay, what do I want? If I make this decision, what is the overall outcome that I believe this is going to give me? If it doesn't, then give me that outcome, how then. Then am I going to pivot to then make the outcome true? And I think that's a bigger, bigger question, and it should scare the crap out of you. It literally should scare the crap out of you. You know, I have such big goals, which, you know, I can go into another episode on this, but such big goals that it's people will be like, what? Like, is this even a reality? Because it should be scary. It should literally be so scary that you should just. You should just try it and do it. So, like I said, if you're someone here, they're trying to make a big decision, thinking about, what the heck do I need to do? Try it, think about the outcome that it's going to give you, and go from there. Bye, guys.
