Dr. Kelly Alhooie's Journey: 2020-2021

Dr. Kelly Alhooie (founder of Orthopelvic Physical Therapy) recounts her transition from an unhappy outpatient orthopedic job to running a successful pelvic-health practice launched during COVID. Key claims in this chunk: she started as a mobile physical therapist with $800 initial investment; she quit her job (last day: "March 14") and endured zero patients when COVID hit; through persistent outreach (free assessments, collaborations, online content, gym partnerships) she rebuilt business and reached $50,000 earned within 14 months and sustained ~$20,000/month by Q3, later opening clinic space and converting a bedroom into an office.

I gotta say something. I know she's heard me say this before. She is the reason why this event is happening right now. She's the reason this. I have never seen someone take action and be so desperate. And literally this is the first time that I beat her this weekend. One, she took the products that I offer and just did it. She started with the $99 one, then she went to the $5,000 one. Then she went to the next one and she just crushed it. I'll let you finish the rest of it, girl. You do your thing. Y' all give it up for Kelly and Louis.
Alright, guys, so I want to know, we just kind of went over this, but I want to know who here has student loan debt? Like raise your hand high. All right, who here works at a job that they absolutely hate? Raise your hand. All right, so we have a couple people. So this time 14 months ago, I was working at a job that I absolutely hated and I had student loans at and I had no idea what to do and. Oh great. I think I need a clicker. Is it right here? Okay, the big green one. Got it. All right. So I had no idea what I was doing or even where to turn. And I'm here to tell my story today to hopefully inspire at least one of you guys to make a change and become the person that you want to become and get the salary that you all deserve. So I went from no business March 2020 during COVID to making 50k in 14 months as a pelvic health physical therapist. All right, so for those of you that don't know me, My name is Dr. Kelly Alhui, founder of Orthopelvic physical therapy in Northern Virginia. I'm a hip and pelvic floor physical therapist. I have been practicing for 10 years and I started mobile. I started with $800 mobile. That's it. That's all it took for me to get started as a mobile physical therapist. Then now I have one clinic in Northern Virginia. So how I came into Greg's world, I randomly found Greg online. He was putting out this 2021 day challenge and it was 20 minutes a day. I had to listen to him. And it was just one month long. And I was like, you know what, I think this guy can actually help me out. And at the end of that challenge, he then offered a three thousand dollar offer which was smart success healthcare. So I guess I got in when it was a good price. So I told my husband, I was like, look, I really want to buy this. And my husband was like, are you kidding me? We just were both pts. We've worked two jobs our whole entire career to this point just to make ends meet and just to buy our first house. We just bought our first house in August 2019. And he was like, we don't have $3,000. What are you doing? He was like, who is this guy? This guy's a scam. Like, what is happening? But do not give this guy your money. And I did. Listen, we got in a major fight. I was crying, and I was like, I'm giving this guy my money because I know there is something there. So I won, and I gave. I gave my money to Greg, and I never knew what was going to be happening after that. So during the program, Greg said, when your pain is so bad, change will happen. For me, this was my moment. These are the words that mean so much to me. And this is step number one for you guys. I want you to write this down. When the pain is so bad, change will happen. My pain was so bad. I was sick. I was tired. I was working at an outpatient orthopedic job that I absolutely hated. And it was killing me. Really, it was killing me. I didn't know what to do. I was seeing one patient beforehand and one patient after work in my mobile practice at that time, and I didn't. I was so. I was just so tired. And randomly. David Bailiff, he messaged me, actually called me. Yes, give it up.
Hi.
He called me through Facebook. I've never met him until this weekend as well, and was like, kelly, what is your eval rate? And I said, 185. And he said, look, he did very simple math. And he said, you need eight visits to replace what you were making at your outpatient orthopedic job. A week. That's what I needed. And I was like, okay, I need eight patients. I then hang up the phone with him. I call my mom, and I said, mom, I think I'm going to quit my job. And my mom, she's here today. And my husband and my sister, they're all here. My mom was like, you should do it. You should do it. I called my brother. He's a business guy. He said, you need three months business plan. I had zero months business plan. I had nothing. I told my husband. He was like, are you nuts? Like, we just bought this house. We're gonna be homeless. He did. I told my dad, and he was like, never leave a stable job. All three of these people were doubting me because they were trying to protect me. Especially my husband. He didn't want to live in a tent, I can tell you that. And so my pain was so bad that one day I called off work from my outpatient orthopedic job and I lied in my bed crying, literally, like bawling. And I'm a very happy person. So for me to be bawling for five, six hours in my bed, it meant a lot because I knew that I was going to make a change. And I was terrified and I was falling. I called my mom again. I said, mom, what? What should I do? And she's like, kelly, you have. And so with David Bailiff and with my mom encouraging me, and that's my second point is, for me, I needed at least one person to believe in me, to know that I could do this. And then I called my head, head boss that day. I'm bawling my eyes out. She probably barely even understand what I'm saying. And I was like, look, I'm quitting and I'm only giving you two weeks notice. I know what she said to me. She said, oh, no, no, no. You have to give me four first off. And second off, you're just tired. We'll give you some time, Kelly. Two months off and then you can come back. And I was like, no, no, no, no. I am quitting. March 14. Best day of my life. Last day ever as a freaking employee, guys. Last day. This picture right here was taken on my last day. I actually asked one of my colleagues because I really wanted to remember this day because this was my motivation. I was standing there. I don't know if you guys can see it, but it says employees only. And I never ever wanted to be an employee ever again. And I knew I wasn't going to back to that place. I had a big smile on my face then, but I was 100% completely terrified. I was excited, but I was sick tired and I didn't know what I was going to do. I was super, super scared. So this is number three. I had to form a budget. I started shopping at Aldi and just promoting that I could make a one to two dollar meal and posting it online. And again, this is right when Covid hit. Covid hit March 19th. So then the second thing I did is I got it in my head, if I had to live in a tent, I was prepared. Because you know why? I was going to feel better and be better. I actually had time. This is something else Greg taught me. I had time. I didn't have any money. I was poor as Crap. But I had time, and I knew that having time, I could feel better and start to think and come up with an action plan. And this next thing was my lowest moment. I remember when Covid hit, I went down to zero patients on my schedule. So I have no job. We just bought a house. I have student loan debt, and I didn't know where to turn. And I have zero patience on my schedule because no one was seeing anyone during that time period. I then decided to put on my ortho pelvic shirt. I had no boob. I had nothing. I went to a trailhead that I knew people would run at, and I stood outside, and I started yelling at people, hey, come over here.
Come.
I can help you. Try this. Come to this parking lot. I will do a free assessment on you. Yeah, I was crazy, But here I am, I'm thinking I'm a doctor of physical therapy. I'm like a homeless person standing outside this trail, literally begging for someone to talk to me. And I started treating these people for free. And make a long story short on that, one of the people that I actually did a movement assessment on in the parking lot, I was actually then able to hire her as our photographer a year later for the clinic, which is amazing. So I then decided to do lots of other things because I had to make it work, because, remember, I had zero patients on my schedule, and I had student loan debt and a house. So this is another thing Greg said, plant the seeds and get ready to harvest. Do it now. This is what he said in his program when he was literally saying this. I was emailing every gym I possibly could.
Good.
So if it was like a strength gym, then I would say, okay, I will help you. I'll help you with a stretching routine or a mobility routine online. I did Q and A's for a ton of gyms, and I just said, hey, I'll show up on Zoom, and anyone can ask me questions. I lowered my email rate, and I started training people for free. And sometimes I would just say, how much can you pay me? That's what I'll take. I literally offered this one girl. I'm like, $30 for one full hour with me. She wouldn't take it because she was like, well, this is weird. No one tells me you're $30. That's. That's bizarre. It was crazy. But I was willing to do whatever it took to talk to someone and get people to know who I was and just make things happen. I started my own podcast. It only had one episode, but at least I started it. It was called the postpartum struggle. Still out there, but no one listens to a problem. Then I started communicating with other practitioners. I started collaborating with naturopaths, endometriosis doctors, nutritionists, and we would go on Facebook lives together and cross collaborate. I joined other people's podcast. I got really involved in my community. For people that know me, I really love bringing people together and I really love a good community. I got the pelvic health world to come together. I've lived in five different states. I've practiced with a lot of these practitioners. So I got everyone to collaborate and come together. We did a pelvic dance, and that had a lot of hips on it. And then we decided to do chronic pain signage here, and we promoted that out. I said, why not promote what I absolutely love? Because I have time. And this is in April. This is one month after I left my job. And in one month, I made over what I was making as an outpatient orthopedic specialist at my outpatient orthopedic job. And guess what, guys? All my other colleagues got furloughed. And that could have been me. And I would have had no backup. So if you're sitting here in this room today, I really encourage you to start trying to think about how can you make that jump, because you never know. I never knew as a doctor of physical therapy that potentially we could be furloughed. So May, June came around. I then taught pilates, I taught yoga to my community, as you can see. And I would Facebook and Instagram is live every single day to these mom groups. And we would just do this for months and months. I came up with two online products, started promoting that, and had groups on that. This is another interesting point is I'm pointing. I don't know if you can see, but I'm pointing to a parking deck. When I'm in my car right there, that parking deck. I spent a lot of time in that parking deck. I would drive 12 hours away just to treat a patient. Remember, I'm mobile. And I would sit in that parking lot for many, many hours because I would have one patient and then I could have another one for two to three hours. I was freezing cold. I was really hot. I had no bathroom because it was Covid. No one was going to let you in. And I sat there, I listened to podcasts, I scheduled people, I called people. I did whatever it took to potentially get any kind of clients and get them coming in regularly. So then I started having People contact me to like come to my facility. Well, I didn't have this facility because I was local. And by June and July I was making 20k a month. All third quarter I made 20k a month. And I turned my bedroom or one of our bedrooms into an office. So they had to come in my house, go through my kitchen, through my living room upstairs past her master bedroom where my husband's was hiding it because he didn't want to see the patients. And then he would sneak out while we're in, while we're in the bedroom getting treatment. And that's what I had to do because I didn't know at the time that I could actually afford a facility at that time. At that point I was treating like probably six to eight patients a day. Now if anyone's mobile, you know, six to eight patients a day is a, is a big feat. Especially carrying that big table up. I had a suitcase and we live by DC so up and down all those stairs. Yeah, your back's hurting. So now September came around, I decided it was time to get office space. And I made a decision like that because half my patients were one hour away and I was here one one hour here. So there was a big distance in between. And I had to make this decision in two seconds where I was going to put my clinic. I just decided to put it closer to my house. Patients still to this day drive an hour to three and a half hours, come see me, which is amazing. So when I got this space, this was fourth quarter, I didn't have time because I was probably working 15 hour days. My husband had to go get the keys from the rental, the leasing office at 6 o' clock on a Monday night. And I told him, all right, I have a patient in the clinic Tuesday morning. So I said, grab the mats, grab a table, grab a mirror and grab a plant. As you can see in this picture right here, that's a trash bag with my linens in it. There's my Lou that's sitting on a flipped upside down Costco box. This is not a cute office, but I was willing to take action and get people to just start coming in. Within two weeks I got 75% of my patients in office and I got two rooms in a gym area. And as you, I don't know if you can see these pictures, but that gym, the carpet has all the stains all over. It was disgusting. So no worries, Mama Harrigan. My mother came up within 48 hours. She made the room look like this.
So.
Guys, remember this was During COVID So nothing was there. Like we didn't have. There's. It was so hard to find towels, sheets. Basically, my mom went to seven targets, 20 Walmarts, IKEA. I mean, she hustled to get the clinic to look like this. So December, I formed a team. I got a pelvic health physical therapist and an admin on. Within two months, one of my pelvic health physical therapists got engaged and left. That was great. And then I hired two more pelvic health physical therapists. At this time, I was in great mastermind. And I remember him saying, kelly, what do you want? And I said, I want to make an extra 10k a month. By this point, all fourth quarter, I made 30k or all fourth quarter. Yeah, I made 30k a month. So that was amazing. I never knew that was possible and it was just freaking awesome to see that. So what's next for orthopelvic? We have four people on our staff. We are now making over 50k a month, and we are projected to make over $500,000 this year. We are expanding. So I'm about to buy or rent an office space. So we'll figure that out soon. This week that should be happening. But I just want to tell you guys, 14 months ago, I was in your position. I had no money, I hated a job. I had student loan debt, and I didn't know where to turn. With Greg's guidance, he has helped me so much to become the person that I never knew I had to become. I was so sick. I was so tired. And by me figuring out with all of his tools, I was able then to progress to over 50k a month and 4014 months during a time that people were scrambling just to make ends meet. Guys, I am no one special. I've never been the top of my class ever. I've always been a student that likes to have fun. That's me. That's you guys too. Yes, exactly. That's the best way to be. But I can tell you one thing. I've always been the hardest working person and I've always been the first one to take action. So I want to know today, who here is ready to take action? Thank you.
