A first-person YouTube testimonial by an occupational therapist who followed Kelly Alhooie on Instagram for about a year, DM'd her, and attended one of Kelly’s retreats. The speaker took women’s health courses, is transitioning into sexual wellness, and (less than a year into private practice) describes how Kelly’s teaching on marketing, social media, branding, and community-building changed their expectations and approach to growing a practice. Key insights: networking with peers, realistic expectations about referrals, and the importance of social-media-driven marketing.

So as an occupational therapist, I just got a targeted ad on Instagram and so I was kind of following Kelly for about a year. I didn't even have a plan to start a business. I didn't have a plan to even open a private practice. I wasn't even working in women's health. And so I was just kind of like following this account kind of randomly. Things would come up here and there. And through my journey, I decided to take some courses on women's health. And I'm more actually interested in sexual wellness. And so I didn't know if this was going to be a great fit for me. I think I reached out to Kelly via Instagram and DM'd her and she was like, yeah, we're having an event, you should come. And I just kind of pulled the trigger and went. And so it was such a great opportunity because being able to learn from other rehab professionals has been just like life changing and being able to communicate with women that are on the same journey. And I've only been in my practice a little less than a year. And so seeing that women are just starting from zero was so helpful, much help. So I was so unrealistic on starting my business, which was so eye opening. When I attended one of Kelly's retreats, I thought that I would just go to doctors offices, talk with a doctor, they would send me patients and it was going to be like this. I did not and still do not, but will. I want to do like the social media and some of that, the marketing things that way. And that really is how you build your brand and build community. And it is so vital. And so what Kelly helped me realize is this foundation of how the progression of like your marketing goes. And so that was something that really changed my outlook and how I'm building my business.
