How to Hold A CrossFit Workshop

Kelly Alhooie leads a YouTube Live workshop from her garage gym teaching pelvic health therapists how to run CrossFit workshops to grow practice referrals and clients. She covers outreach (email, in-person class visits, short intro videos/DMs), logistics (what to bring: pelvic model/paper pelvis, postcards, tripod/phone, signup sheet), pricing options (paid split with gym or free with gym keeping fees) with a revenue example (18 attendees at $30 → $540 split → $270 to presenter), on-site structure (arrive early, circle intro, palpation and touch exercises, Kegel demonstration, breathing assessment, activity observation like double-unders), and follow-up/data capture for productization and lifecycle marketing.

What's up? What's up guys? Getting ready for the CrossFit workshop. I am in garage gym, so I'll just wait for some people to come on. We're gonna get started at 12, but this is my first time doing this, so I wanted to come on and make sure we are good and all is well and it works. So looks like we are cooking. So that's amazing. That is super cool. Anyone that comes on, let me know that you're here. I don't know if I'm going to be able to see you. I don't know if we'll be able to talk to you. Really. This truly is our first time on YouTube doing this live. Clearly we've been on YouTube but like doing this live. So we just want to test things out, do it differently and see. So if you are on anyone that's on, I don't know if you're there or not, put it in the chat section. Where you're from, what your practice is and what you want to get out of today's workshop. I would love to know that. And that way we can make sure we really target that and hit it hard. But welcome to YouTube. Welcome to YouTube Live. We are live, live, live. So that's cool. Let's see here. I'm just gonna. Chat's good. I think we're good. Hopefully you guys can hear me. Yeah. Volumes up. Again. If you're just joining. Welcome to my garage. My gym slash garage. Just a little tour here. If you want boxing, you can hang up the gloves. Kind of fun. We use the. What is it? The prx. PRX performance system. It's really cool. Like the bench. That's a bench. It can pull out from the wall and then it can put up against the wall. Also the squat rack can go against the wall and it can drop down. So that's cool. So you can still actually fit a car in the garage, which is really cool. And then they have, you know, all the organization stuff. Maybe I'll bring it over there later. But like if you guys can see they have all the organization stuff that you can hang on your wall and so everything is up and out of the way. So you can pull your car in there. So that's pretty cool. All right, let's see here. Let me just see what's going on. Yeah, I don't think I can see anyone. So if you're there. Hello. And then today's call will be recorded. So I think it should be just saved somewhere in the YouTube space. But we Will send you the link if you cannot join today. So we will send you the link. Just make sure either DM me or get on the form that we have to fill out to get the replay of this to make sure that you don't miss, you know, anything that's going on. So if you're on, I cannot see you. This is not Zoom. Welcome to YouTube. We wanted to try something different. So if you're there, please let me know what, who you are, what is your company and what do you want to get out of this workshop? I would love to know that the. You can comment in the box right here. We do have, we do have the chat section, so you can put anything in the chat section at the end of the. The call. I will answer at the end of the call. Any kind of question. So welcome. For those that are joining. I cannot see you now. Said this probably three times, but that's okay. I'm just saying this is not a zoom call. I cannot see you. And we're trying this out. It's our first time on YouTube live, so woohoo. We're trying out something new. It's always good. All right, so I'm going to go ahead and get started. Hopefully you guys are here because you want to know more about how to perform a CrossFit workshop. It's something for my practice that has clearly accelerated my practice, which I'll get into in a second. But this is something that, if you can do it right, can massively accelerate your business. So for those that are just joining, if you would like, put your name, who your company is, who you are, where you're from, and what would you like to get out of this workshop so I can make sure I hit that hard today and go over that? All right, so let's get right into it. And I can't even. I don't think I share slides. So I'm just going to talk and demo in my garage behind me. So welcome to my garage, people. So I just want to go over the mission of Pelvibiz. For those that don't know Pelviz, my goal is to help over 5,000 pelvic health therapists make more money and be healthy while doing it. This is something that I truly have struggled with since I ever came out of school to now. I still have health issues. As you can see on my face. I had a staph infection and it's something that is truly. It makes me just want to push every single day to help all pelvic Health therapists be able to make more money and don't lose themselves in the process of that. It's not about just making money, but it's also about being healthy while doing that. So welcome, welcome, welcome. I can see you. Thank you so much. And so today, basically the goals for today is we're going to learn how to get more clients. And using a CrossFit workshop. I just picked one. You could go to a yoga studio, you can go to bar studio, you can go wherever you want to go and do do workshops. But I just doubled down on CrossFit workshops to show you guys. Some of you guys are unfamiliar with moves or how to get into these big gyms. And once you're in with these big gyms, it can make a massive impact in the business. So I want to teach you the structure of how you actually do that. I'm going to show you how to give away lots of detail, but also show that there's a problem because a lot of people go wrong with that. And then what information to actually cover that's going to be relevant to CrossFitters. So that is the goal of today and how to get their attention. Just like I see in the comments, how to get their attention. I want to make sure that you guys get the attention that you deserve because you guys know so much. And a lot of times people walk out of these CrossFit studios or gyms being like, hey, I don't know why patients aren't calling me. And so today I'm going to help solve that problem for you. Also, if you stay to the end of the webinar, I promise I have something good for you guys that I'll get into later. So make sure you stay to the end because you're going to want to hear this. So, all right, so number one, hopefully have a pen and a notepad or your computer. So here we go. So I want you to write this down, how to set up a CrossFit workshop. Number one, you can email these. These gyms. You can email them. Sometimes people are not going to respond to these emails, as we know, because many of us get lots of emails. The next thing you can do is go in and take a class at one of these gyms and just say, hey, I'm here. I would love to learn more about your gym and take a class. Don't even say your company. This is a big mistake that people do. They walk in and they go, hi, I'm Kelly from Orthopelvic, and I just want to know if I put on a workshop here. Don't do that. They will be like, who are you? Get out of here. So just say, hey, I'm interested in taking some classes. I would love to learn more about your gym. Go take a class. Learn when the manager is going to be there. Typically the manager will be at the gym early on in the morning. Not always. Some of them are later, but more than likely from like 8 to 12amanager is there. So you want to make sure that you get in contact with the manager and that you get their phone number, email, whatever it is so that you can contact them later about setting up a workshop. Just don't go right in for the kill because that will 100% turn them off. You can also use your phone and send. You're going to find a CrossFit gym in your area and you're going to send them a video of you going, hey, so and so, whatever the gym's name is called. Hey, I, uh, I love all your content, would love to collaborate with you. Is there any way we could do an IG live? Or I could come in and just get to know you a little bit. But that's how you start these conversations and start to connect with these gyms. So you can get into these big crossfit gyms that have a lot of active clients that are a lot of times our clients because a lot of them have leakage. Most of them have leakage or they want like a six pack. That's the biggest goal for CrossFitters. Now people will ask me, should I do it paid or unpaid? So should you do it paid or unpaid? Well, here's, here's a little lesson that I learned from one of my mastermind students. So she went in, she got a workshop from one of the gym owners. She had 18 people show up at the gym. 18 people show up. She charged $30 a visit, so she charged 30 bucks. So that means that she, the CrossFit gym, was going to bring in $540. And what she did was she made a deal with the owner and said, hey, look, let's charge for this workshop. I'll take half, you take half. So that is one way to do it. You can charge for your workshops, guys. You do not have to do them for free. You can charge 30 to $40 is on average. So this person, one of my Mastermind students, charged $30 and was able to make the gym $540. Now that gym split it with her so that she got $270 and they got $270. So that is one way that within one hour where she's even trying to market, she's getting paid to market. Like how freaking fantastic is that? And in that workshop she got 10 people, 10 people to join to come over to her place. So just by getting 10 people, that's over $2,000 she was able to generate just by doing one friggin workshop. And that's not including the life cycle that, that she would guide people into. That's just if they did just one visit. More than likely you guys should be seeing your patients more than just one time. Okay, so what's up Megan? So this is something that you want to talk to the coaches about. Hey, would you be interested if we charge for this? The other option is you can just charge for it and the gym keeps all the money. So the gym could just, in that example I gave you could just keep the $540 just for putting on the workshop. And, and I could do it for free. The other option is I could just do it for free because with. Even by me doing it for free, I'm still going to get five. So when I do workshops, guys, I get five to 18 clients. Is kind of the, the what I've figured out of what happens. Five to 18 clients from one workshop in one hour. Google Ads will not even come close to that. This is why this is massive the way that I position this and do it. So hopefully you guys are really listening to this because that is lots of money coming in your door just by doing one workshop if it's done correctly. And that's why I'm so passionate about this because most of you that are on here are starting out just trying to get your practice going and this is something that can change the game for your practice. Okay, so the next thing is you're probably thinking, what should I bring? Well, number one, I always bring a paper pelvis and. Or if you have a real pelvis, I would bring that too. These we just give out at clinic. We just made them, but I'll use, I will definitely bring a pelvic model with me. If you do not have the money yet for that, make yourself a paper one. If you need a paper one DM me, I'll send you a paper one. Okay. I colored this myself so and laminated it but it's fine because you can actually put your finger in and people can see, you know, what muscle they're touching. So that's cool. Also make sure you bring some kind of business card. I personally do not do brochures because a lot of times people won't even flip it open because they don't have time. So we do postcards. You guys have probably seen that, but we do postcards. I also bring a tripod and then I use my phone because I like to record my, my, what do you call it, Workshops. So that later on if people want to watch it, they have it. And. Or if you want to watch of like, hey, how did this go? What was the response? What questions did I get asked? Sometimes when you're in the moment, you're like, I forgot what they asked me. But you really want to know those questions because later on you're going to use your notes section, write down what questions they had, and then you can make a product off of that. Okay, so we're two for ing it. We're not just going in there and teaching a workshop and like just trying to get patients. We're also listening to the people to understand what they want so that later on we can build off of that. Whether or not it's an online product, whether or not it's another in person workshop, what do they really want? We got to listen to them. So that's super important. Okay. And then the last thing is that I bring is a sheet that has their name, phone number, email, and what issue that they are having trouble with. And I will put examples of like, is it leakage? Is it pain with intercourse? Is it low back pain, hip pain? I will put that on there so people aren't afraid to be like pain with intercourse. And then I will look at that and gear my talk towards that. So you're probably thinking, okay, Kelly, so do I go early? What do I do? So I personally like to show up at the gym 15 minutes ahead of time. So maybe a class is getting done. A lot of times that's the case. So watch them. What are they doing, who's doing what? Are moms coming in? A lot of times moms will be coming in as well. And you can sit there and just talk with them and chat with them. Be like, hey, what do you want to know about this workshop? Like, tell me more about why you wanted to take your hour from your child today and come and hang out with me. Why do you want to do that? I would love to hear more. Well, you know, I have leakage and I'm just tired of leaking. And, and I heard about this. I don't even know what a pelvic floor is, but I heard and I wanted to come. Okay. Cool. Awesome. Well, it's your lucky day. We're going to touch upon leakage today. So I just try to start having these small conversations without it in front of the big audience because sometimes people introverts, I don't. I can't see anyone. So who's an introvert on here? Put me in the chat because I cannot see you guys. So if you're an introvert, people aren't going to be like, oh. The introvert personalities are not going to be like, oh, I pain with intercourse. So I like to, hey, nice to meet you. Have a conversation. By the way, if you would like, this is important. If you would like more information about whatever you're trying to achieve today and know more about, please put your name and contact information here, let me know what you're struggling with and that way I will send you. At the end of this, I will send you some more information about low back pain that I see that you're having here. And that's the form that you fill out. They can do it either before the workshop, they can either do it during the workshop and you can have a paper version or if you're very fancy, you can bring your iPad, put it on a Google, Google Excel spreadsheet and. And they can type it in when they're there. So that way you can easily read the names better without being like, is that a P? Is that an oh? What is that? Okay, so that's what you want to do to start out. And then from there I just had everyone stand in a circle. So for those that are on again, I cannot see you. We're going to kind of move around so that you can get a feeling what it's like to be at a workshop. Because just listening to me, it's not good. We gotta move. Okay, so I just have at first everyone stand in a semi circle around me like this. Okay, so everyone's standing up. And then I'm like, okay, guys, just so you know. Hi, my name is Kelly Alhui. I'm founder of Orthopelvic Physical Therapy. Thank you so much for having me here today. I'm super excited to teach you guys. Now, who here? This is important. I look at my sheet. If I have any indication. If not, then I just ask. So I'm like, who here has leakage? Raise their hand. So many people will be like this. So I'll show you a CrossFit gym. Who here wants better abs? Raise their hand. Who here has hip pain? Raise their hand. And who here has low back pain? Those are the four main things that I hit with a CrossFit workshop. Low back pain, hip pain, get your abs better and be able to not leak. Those are typically what people that go to a CrossFit gym are looking for. Now, clearly there's other issues, but if I can hit that hard, a lot of times they're very satisfied. Okay, so once I do that, I get them to say, hey, that's me. Now I know my target. So from here, I want everyone that's on right now. Again, I cannot see you, but let's stand up and let's start touching. So now I break the awkward silence of people being like, oh, my God, the pelvic floor. What is that? So once I get a buy in of, like, I have leakage, then I'll be like, awesome. Well, at orthopelvic, we treat the pelvic floor and hip issues, low back pain and all the things, everything's connected. So we mainly specialize in treating the pelvic floor and the pelvic region, but we can treat the head, the neck, all the things. I just overall explain to them that this is the things that we can treat very quickly. Not like we treat si pain. We treat your ankle joint. They don't care. So try to make it very casual. Like we can treat from here to here. They're like, okay, cool, I get that. Right? So now we're going to get to know your pelvic floor because you're probably thinking, what the heck's the pelvic floor? So I take my model and I'm like, everyone, and do this with me if you can. Everyone touch your pubic bone. Okay, you see this hard thing right here? It's hard. You may have to move some things out of the way. I crack a joke because that makes them laugh and not be so serious about this condition that they're terrified of. So try to be a little light. And that takes some time to get used to, but try to be a little light on it. So does everyone feel their pubic bone? Yes, I feel it. Okay, great. Now what I want you to do is go right above there and press in. So they're here and they press in and I'm like, does anyone have to pee? Most of them raise their hand. I'm like, you just touched your bladder. You put a lot of pressure on your bladder. And they're like, oh, my God, that's weird. Okay, now your, your pelvic floor is anything from the pubic bone, which you just, just touched all the way around to the back part of here. We all know this. That's on this call, right? But this is how I explain it to them. Now, let's feel your pelvic floor. This is when their eyes are like, what you want me to do? What? So you're going to take your hand, cup it like this. Like this. Okay? This is how I tell them to do it. If they have a bench, which I have right here. If they have a bench, I like to have them put their leg up on the bench. If they don't have a bench, then just tell them to prop their leg like this out to the side. Okay? But because I have a bench, what we're going to do is can you find now your sit bones? Your sit bones are these guys right here. Can you feel that bone? Can you feel that bone? Yeah, Kelly, I can feel it. Okay, from here, what I want you to do is take your hand. So, guys, here's my sit bone. Hopefully you can see it. I have them touch on the inside part so their hands like this. And then I have them touch on the inside part of that sit bone. I'm not in my vag. I'm just right outside of that. Okay. And yes, people will start looking around like I'm crazy. But it's funny because everyone starts, like, laughing because they're like, what? Even the males. Okay, there will be males at your CrossFit workshops. It's 100% given still talk about pelvic floor because they have issues. So from here, I'm putting my hand here. What I say is, does everyone know about Kegels? And of course, everyone raises their hand. All right, so without even explaining it, I'm like, all right, let's do it. So can you guys squeeze? What do you guys feel? So I have them lift. Does anyone feel something move away from their finger? Who feels that? Raise your hand. And they're like, maybe. All right, cool. Now do you feel anything? Relax into your fingers. That's when we're dropping the pelvic floor. No, I don't feel that. Most of them will say, I don't know what's going on down there. I can't feel anything. Okay, so for those that can't feel anything, this is important. Hopefully everyone's taking note on this. This is a very important point. This is the first time I point out that they potentially have a problem. This is where most pelvic health therapists miss the boat. Okay? So when I am touching here, when I am touching like this, and people say that they Cannot feel it lift or they cannot feel it drop, I point out that they have a problem. So I had everyone who feels that the muscle can lift off the finger. Who feels that? Me. Okay, great. That means your pelvic floor is doing this. So my bicep is an example of the pelvic floor. Okay. Who feels that their muscle is going into their finger? Normally there's crickets and you're like, okay. So that means that most of us in this class have something called pelvic floor dysfunction, where the muscle. I'm going to use my bicep as an example where the muscle is actually over active. So I know most of yalls doctors probably told you to do Kegels, but a lot of times the muscle is too contracted. And what we have to do instead is allow the muscle to relax to then be able to get it to re fire so that then it can do the task that we need it to do. So then that's when I personally. And I don't know if you guys have this, and this is something we can go over in another webinar, but I use my method. It's the lengthening phase, the strengthening phase, and the return. So orthopelvic. I came up with a method called, called lsr. Lengthening phase, the strengthening phase and the return phase. So I've coined that. And that's kind of my thing that I help people understand how they're actually going to get to their goal by working with us. That's a very important lesson right there. Okay. That you want to be able to show them the path and that you actually have the solution. And the first thing I did was point out that there is an issue if they can't feel the muscle drop into the finger. Okay. And sometimes you're like, I just can't feel anything. I don't know what's going on. All right, well, that more than likely, if you're having leakage or any kind of issue, pressure control issues, then I would highly recommend seeing a pelvic floor therapist. That's just what I say. And I've now probably stated that two or three times before I've done anything else. And then more often than not, if you do this correctly, they will literally go, so what does it look like when you go see a pelvic floor physical therapist? Because I've said it so many times and now it's kind of ingrained of like, oh, this is what I do now. Here's the next thing. Let's just say you're Like, Kelly, I don't like having people put their hands down here. All right, I hear you. The next thing you can do is breath, because we mainly always start with breath. So then from here, you would have people. All right, everyone, one hand on the chest, one hand on the belly. From here, I want you to inhale. Do it with me, guys, if you're on, do it with me. It's going to help you remember it. Okay, Inhale, exhale. One more time. Inhale, exhale. I'm watching, and I'm just walking around to see who are my chest breathers and who are my belly breathers. Sometimes, depending on the crowd and how comfortable, I kind of feel the vibe of. I will call people out and be like, do you mind if everyone looks at you? And they're like, yeah, okay. I'm like, all right, everyone look at. What's your name? Okay, Amy. All right, everyone look at Amy. Do you see. What do you notice when she breathes? Amy, just keep breathing normally. Is her chest moving or is her belly moving? Notice how I'm giving them options. I'm not standing up there going, okay, she's a chest breather. She's a belly breather. Don't do this, don't do that. They're not going to listen. You want to engage them. So, guys, everyone here, is she a chest breather or she a belly breather? What do you guys think? Oh, she's about. She's a chest breather. Okay, great. Now, everyone, can we look at this gentleman over here? Okay, we're looking at him now. Is he a belly breather or chest breather? I'll pick someone opposite. He's a belly breather. So now let's go back to ourselves. I want you to pay attention. Does your top hand move more than your bottom hand or your bottom hand move more than your top? Okay, for those people, this is another important. This is the second big point that you must point out to them right here. If you are a chest breather, those people more than likely have some kind of pelvic floor issue. And the reason why, guys, is because. Let me angle this a little bit. The reason why is because from the glottis to the diaphragm to my abs to my pelvic floor, it is one solid unit. So when I'm doing this, what happens? Does my pelvic floor and this. I ask some questions. I'm presenting this the exact same way I do it. Do you think my pelvic floor lifts or do you think my pelvic Floor drops. Who thinks it lifts? Raise your hand. Who thinks it drops, raise your hand. Okay, it actually lifts. So. So for those people that are chest breathers, more than likely you're going to need to see a pelvic floor therapist, because a lot of times going back to the bicep here, your muscles are actually. Your pelvic floor muscles are actually holding on too tight. And how do we. We don't know it. So this is why you have to come. You know, you need to make an appointment so we can really understand what's causing these issues. But it seems to be that this is what's happening because you're a chest breather. So we need to correct the whole system. And this is why we must do an evaluation to see what's going on. Do you see how I hit that second point hard? I didn't say just become a belly breather. Problem solved. That's a massive mistake that a lot of people, a lot of pelvic health therapists, when they're presenting, they miss. So now I pointed out that potentially everyone in that workshop may have something wrong with their pelvic floor. And maybe they're doing all the things and everything's good. And I'm like, awesome, amazing. Like, that's super cool. And I don't point it out on that person, but maybe I take someone else and I point it out on them, because clearly not everyone's the same and not everyone's going to have the issue, but most people will, especially my crossfitters, because they have tight pelvic floors. They go lift, and the pelvic floor is already too tight. Okay, so those are. That's those two things. If you just get those two things correct and have people feel in touch, that's another important point. When people feel and touch things, just like I'm having you guys do, hopefully right now you're doing it at home, you're going to remember it more. If I were just to sit here and do a boring lecture with a PowerPoint slide and said, hey, here you go. Here's the information you guys would retain, probably maybe 5% of that. So be unique, be different, because that's what's going to actually help progress you and get you to stand out and be like, oh, my God, this is the best presentation I've ever. I've ever listened to in my life. Okay, now let's get into issues. So most of you here, once I do those two things, most of you here like to do. I heard you like to do double unders. That's a big CrossFit thing. Okay, can we get out jump ropes right now? And I would love to see most of you guys do that. So everyone on this call, I want you to stand up, okay? I want you to stand up. From here, I'm going to act like I have my pretend jump rope. Okay? So from here, I'm just going to have them start doing double unders, and I'm going to go around and just watch the people. Same thing as the breath and same thing when people are touching. Okay. As they do that, I'm watching to see who's. Okay, here's my ribs. Look. And I got scoliosis, so good luck. This rib pops out more. Okay, so from here, when I'm doing double unders, is my ribs doing this and am I piking like this? People will do this. They pop this part out. Okay, that's mistake number one. So I'm just looking for that. Are they also doing this? Okay. Where they're just letting this lower part hang out like this? Yes. My ribs will flare, too, but sometimes they'll try to keep it in here and then poof here, because they're applying pressure down like this. And then this part poofs out. Those are called Stage 4 Upper AB Grippers, by the way. So hopefully you're not one of them. You know those people, because they have a line that sits right here. Okay, so I'm looking for that. I have them do the activity. Now. Raise your hand if you feel pressure or if you feel leakage. So as they're all doing it. Me, me, me, me, me, me. Okay, so you feel pressure? You feel leakage? Which one? Pressure. Leakage. Okay, cool. All right, so now, guys, what we're going to do is I want you to try this one thing. Don't confuse them. Give them one thing. Okay, so from here, put your jump rope down for a second. I want you to get a. Hold on. I want you to grab a ball, grab a sweatshirt.
