How to Lessen Overwhelm and Truly Grow Your Business
20 Nov 2025 · 14 min
Podcast episode by Kelly Alhooie (Pelvic Biz Podcast) addressing overwhelm among pelvic‑health clinicians starting businesses. Kelly diagnoses common causes of overwhelm (pursuing more certifications and copying competitors) and urges listeners to find a deep personal why, then reverse‑engineer their business to support that life goal. She contrasts in‑person/brick‑and‑mortar models (faster cash flow, easier trust) with online models (longer brand build ~7 years), recommends delegating low‑value tasks (example: hiring a cleaner at $15/hr for five hours/week = $75 to free five hours that could generate ~$1,000 treating patients), and suggests creating packaged products (e.g., a $500 leak‑solution product; selling 20–30 units as a revenue example). Episode closes with a webinar promotion (April 10, 7:30) and Instagram DM contact for the link.

What's up, guys? Welcome to the Pelvic Biz Podcast. I'm your host, Kelly Alhoi. Today I want to talk about overwhelm. I've been receiving messages lately, and they just, like, get to me. They really, really do. And here's some of the messages that I receive. Hey, Kelly. I'm trying to get Pilates certified. I'm trying to finish my APTA certification in pelvic health. And I'm also, like, trying to get my business started and, like, one other thing. And they're like. And I just feel so overwhelmed. Like, I just don't think I could do this. And it's like, actually, no, you can do this. You actually can do this. But everything that you just said is actually what's holding you back from getting your business started. Doing a Pilates certification is not going to help your business grow. Getting your APTA Women's Health certification, I think that's what they still call it. Maybe it's called pelvic health now, but is not going to move your business. Just so you know, so many of us, and it's not your fault. That's what they just trained us in school. But many of us are focusing on the wrong things, guys. You're focusing on the wrong things, like, for real. And it, like, irks me because it's like, like, you were told a lie and you're just going with it. Like, get more stuff so that you can be better. I'm telling you, the best pelvic health therapists are not the best in the field. Like, the best business. Pelvic health therapists are not the best in the field, but they do. They get amazing results. Not because they've had 20,000 Con Ed courses. It's because they know how to communicate with people and ask them what they want and ask the right questions. That's the skill set. Not, do you know this next best AB Pilates thing? That's not it. I'm telling you, it's not it. So. And I see it time and time again in my DMs. I'm so overwhelmed. I'm so overwhelmed. Yes, because you're doing the wrong thing. And I'm here to redirect you guys. I really, really am. I'm just passionate about it. Meaning I have to get you off of that mindset. And the reality is, when you're starting a business, you have to find your deep why. You have to find your deep why. And then you also have to reverse engineer this thing backwards to decrease overwhelm. What do you want out of this whole game of business and life? What do you want? What is it? Do you want more time with your kids? Do you want more self care for yourself? Do you want to be paid more? Do you want to go on more than one vacation a year? Like, what do you want? And then whatever that is, you have to work backwards from that. So let's say I wanted to spend time in California, way here from Virginia, and I wanted to hang out at the beach every single day. I'm going to create a company that actually does that then meaning I'm going to create something that is going to be able to. For me to do that every single day. So does that mean I create something online? I can maybe that means I create a product. Because if I want to hang out at the beach every single day, what happens if I sold someone a product and packaged a product up? Meaning, like I, I already have my diagnosis charts and I basically say, hey, if you want your leakage solved, buy this $500, you know, you know, box, and it's going to solve your leakage. And in there it would have the whole solution of how you're going to solve their leakage problem. If I sold even 20 to 30 of those, that would be great. And that would give me the life where I could hang out at the beach every single day. That's how I need you guys to think. Most of y' all are just doing the same thing that you see your competitor over there doing. You're like, should I do that? Should I do that? And that's the other thing that causes overwhelm. Hey, I saw this. Hey, I saw this. Hey, I saw this. It's like you're missing out on what they're doing, but what they're doing is actually not maybe what your audience wants. So you just have to be very mindful of that. That A, you stay in your lane and stay focused, and B, like, don't look at what everyone else is doing. Do what, what you want based on what you're trying to get out of this. If you're someone that's like, hey, I want to create an asset so that my kids can go to college for free. Basically, not for free, but like, you can pay for it without student loans because, you know, we all know how torturous that was, then how do you create that asset? Well, to me, the quickest way to create that asset is a brick and mortar practice. It is easier and faster. Now, I shouldn't say easier. It is faster to create I. I have seen working with over 400 pelvic floor therapists, you can make more money in brick and mortar faster than you can online. Because online there's a bigger pool and people have to get to know you. And it takes at least seven years to build a brand. At least. So however, brick and mortar and AKA if you are mobile or whatever else in person, I should say in person, really in person. Can. You could go to the yoga studio tomorrow, meet someone, and they were like, yes, I have this problem. Great, I'm going to come work on you. You can get a client like that because they already know like, and trust you because they met you in person. It is harder to convey that online because people are weary about people online because they don't know like and trust them yet. So it just takes more effort and more touch points. And them seeing you on multiple platforms and them talking to you and then it just. They don't immediately just buy. That's not it. Okay, so if you're trying to create that asset, then maybe you're trying to again, do a brick and mortar practice and then that's going to be straight up cash flow for your kids. Maybe you're going to buy them a car, maybe you're going to pay for their college. Right. So it all depends on what you want. It's not what Sally sue over there wants, it's what you want. It's your life. You may say I want multiple clinics. Like, I knew when I started Oral Public, that wasn't my jam because I knew I wasn't going to be here forever. But, like, maybe that's what you wanted. So maybe you want, maybe you want five clinics in your area. That's freaking amazing. Okay, and so how are you then going to get that? That's what you got to reverse engineer. If you need help, I can definitely help you. But how are you going to get that? Okay, more clinics typically equal more cash flow. Not always, but typically. So just so you know as well that that's a good thing. But is that going to overwhelm you? You know, is that overwhelming? Is that overwhelming managing multiple staff members at different locations and multiple locations and all that kind of stuff, that could overwhelm a lot of people. I can tell you this. I have seen it time and time again. Staff can really overwhelm therapists because again, we just have never had training in it. No one has taught us how. Hey, this is how you're gonna interview. Hey, this is what you're looking for. Hey, this is what's gonna be best for a cash based practice. Most people have, you know, poor money mindset, meaning that they don't really know how to handle money because again, we were never taught. It's not our faults. It's not our fault. Like, for real, it's not. So when you look at overwhelm, I mean, going back to overwhelm here, when you look at Overwhelm, you have to say, okay, what do I need? And then you also have to give to yourself. Because if you don't give to yourself, you'll become even more overwhelmed, more resentful of the people that are in your life. And you'll be like, screw this all. I'm going to quit. That's what happens with Overwhelm. People get burnt out because they say, screw it, I'm so overwhelmed, I don't know what to do. So I'm done. Don't get to that place because what are you gonna do? Go back and work for someone else? You're not gonna do that? Okay, like, so there's no other option. You have to. You have to get it together. And then I also look at. With Overwhelm is like, who can do the task that I don't wanna do? So, for instance, I hate cooking. I don't mind cleaning, but I absolutely hate cooking. I don't put me in the kitchen. I literally will burn the boiling water over and it goes everywhere. And the smoke detectors start going off and everything. I'm not kidding. Like, this is real. So I don't really know how to turn on the stove and do the oven thing and all that kind of stuff. I just don't do it. Okay? And that's okay. But my husband does and he cleans and he cooks and he takes care of everything around the house. He's amazing. Okay. To save me from overwhelm, I had to learn how to, like, give up things that, yes, I could do. Not, not, not the cooking part, but the cleaning part that, yes, I could do, but that wasn't worth my time doing because I have other things I need to be doing. Okay? I have other things I need to be doing. So I. Instead of cooking, cleaning all the things, I'm over here thinking, okay, how can I help one of you guys? How can I create this product? How can I do this, this, and this? Because that's going to be able to get you to, to do the things and keep moving the needle forward without being like, oh, my God, I have all these freaking tasks. There's no way I could do anything Else in my day, I hear it a lot from moms because most of y' all your husbands are out working. You're basically single mom in it, no joke. And you need, you need a moment to like breathe. And the only moment you have is at like 8 o', clock, 9, 10 o' clock at night. And then you're like, I'm freaking tired, I gotta freaking clean the house. And so then you're freaking overwhelmed again because you're like, I don't even have a moment. And so in those, in those moments, like can someone else take the kids to soccer or pick them up from school? Or maybe you love picking them up from school. I know a lot of moms love that, so maybe you don't give that up. But maybe instead of you cleaning the house, maybe you have a cleaner come over, you know, every three days and help just pick up the house. And then you have to be okay with, there might be toys for one or two days just sitting here. Am I okay with that? You know? Or what do I need to make to then make the cleaner come over every day to help me organize these toys that are all out. Like what is that? Has anyone, have you reverse engineered that? Meaning have you looked and said, okay, the cleaner cost me 15 an hour if I need her here, you know, one, one hour a day. What's 15 times 30? No, 15, sorry. 15 times five. 15 times five. That equals 75. Could I afford $75 a week to have one hour of my. No, sorry. Five hours of my time back. Five hours of my time back. Guys, that's nothing. $75 a week to have five hours of your time. You know what you can do in five hours with your time? You can make insane things. You could treat five different patients. That's a thousand dollars. Like literally. Let's think about this. $75 for five hours a week that you would pay the cleaner to come over in that time period. You could treat patients for $200 an hour or 250 an hour. That's $1,000. So you give 75, you get a thousand. Is that a good deal? That's a great deal. This is how I need you guys thinking and processing because it's going to save you overwhelm, it's going to get you the income that you want and you'll be able to do other things. Because now you, you're not time poor because everyone's taking your energy because you can't pay them. Now you can pay people to not be time poor. That's how this works, and that decreases overwhelm. So hopefully this all makes sense. Guys, I really just want to come on. And some of these DMS have been really bothering me because I'm just like, oh, my gosh, if they just freaking knew what they're telling me right now, it's sitting there in front of them. That's why they're overwhelmed. And so I want to come on and make a podcast about it. So, anyways, hopefully you guys have a great rest of your day.
