How to Trade Your Time for Money
20 Nov 2025 · 13 min
Dr. Kelly Alhooie's podcast episode explains how pelvic health professionals can stop trading time for money by expanding beyond one-on-one treatment. Core recommendations: hire staff to free time for higher-level, strategic work; create and/or sell products (e.g., dilators, branded items) to generate passive revenue; offer subscription/membership services; run workshops or podcasts and use social media for one-to-many outreach. The episode includes numeric examples (product revenue ranges, subscription pricing, workshop pricing) and ends with a call-to-action to book coaching.

Welcome to pelibiz podcast. I'm Dr. Kelly Alhui. I've grown my pelvic health practice, orthopelvic physical therapy, and now I'm helping pelvic health professionals do the same. Each week I give you the knowledge you need to grow your practice. Let's get into today's episode. Today we are going to talk about how to stop trading time for money. Many people ask me, what the heck do you mean? And many people were like, yes, I want to do that. So I'm going to first just start out with the definition of trading time for money and what the heck that even means. So traditionally with us pelvic health therapists, we are treating our time for money. And what that looks like is we are treating one patient an hour or every 30 minutes or even some models every 15 minutes. So you're even doing more of that where you're trading your time and the patient then is giving you money for that service. So you do a task, the patient then gives you money for that service. That's called trading time for money. What many people now are starting to realize is that there's different ways to not just do one to one where you're only impacting one person. So for a whole hour of only impacting that one client, instead, people are starting to realize, wow, for a whole hour I can actually impact many people. Can I impact four people? Can I impact 10 people? Can I impact 20, 20 to 100 people? The more people that you impact. For me, that's what my, that's what my mission is, is to impact more people. So, like, the more people that you impact, the more your messaging gets out there, the more you can solve bigger problems, the more you can help more and more people. Why do we get into healthcare? To help people? Okay, so traditionally in these brick and mortar practices, and I have one myself, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, but traditionally you are treating seven to eight patients a day, one hour. And you're truly just making massive impact in that, in that person's life. And that's okay. There's nothing wrong with that. But many people these days are like, how can I do more? What else? Like, what more can I do without having to trade all of my time in my eight hour day? Basically, you're just with patience the entire time. So today we're going to talk about that. Okay? The biggest thing I believe that you can do to stop trading time for money, which is super scary. Are you ready for it? Drum roll. Higher. When you hire, you can then start to pull yourself out to be able to do other things. So for me at Orthopelvic, I stopped treating one on one with patients to then be able to pull myself out, to now be able to think or maybe to go marketing or maybe to put on a workshop. Like there's many different things that I could be doing to impact so many more people than just treating one on one. So I have found my role in Orthopelvic now is to be the visionary. I'm the one that comes up with all the ideas of how things should be moving forward. And then together we collectively talk about, okay, what are the nitty gritty details that we need to make this ship work to where it benefits the employees, it benefits the patients, it benefits every single person. And we're putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. But if I didn't pull myself out from patient care, I would not be able to have that time to think. And it's super, super important. My thinking and the ability to like, the time that it allows me to think allows me to think of massive ideas that could impact so many more people than just one on one in. And that's, that's freaking amazing. So if you can do that, you're going to get your time back to where, you know, maybe you don't use your time to think. I use a lot of my time to think. I think a lot. But maybe you use your time to go out for a walk for self care. Great. And that helps you maybe use your time now to go to the grocery store, an extra hour. I don't know, whatever you're going to use your time for, that's great. But you have to hire because once you hire, then other people can do these tasks which I call an implementation task, which you can teach anyone to do. A task you literally can. I can teach anyone how to treat a patient. I am no one special. I literally can lay out the entire plan for them and all they have to do is take that plan and just do the work. That's it. Okay. But what many people can't do is do all the higher level thinking that I have to do throughout the day to keep everything moving forward, be progressive, be the first one to do many, many different things, keep trying different things that they're not working. Who's solving the problems? I am. That's what I do. So you also have to really know your role and know, you know what you do best. What I do best is solve many problems. So just you know, FYI, if you're tired of trading time for money, the biggest thing is hiring. That's number one. Number two, you can sell products. Selling products can give you anywhere between 5k a year, all the way up to like 20 to 30k a year of what I've seen of people that I've coached in profit coming in. Yes, you have to buy the products upfront and all that kind of stuff, but that can be a different revenue stream coming in that, that does not involve you giving more of yourself. So think of like Intimate Rose. She sells the wands, the dilators. She has created a product. That product then goes on to serve us pelvic health therapists because we get to promote it. Think about how many of us pelvic health therapists think, then go out and promote that to our patients. Massive. So probably over a million people, I have to say, I'm assuming probably over a million people are probably using her products. I don't know. I don't know anything. You know, I don't know her numbers. But just think about how many, how many people are impacted by that one wand. That one wand. And clearly we're not sharing, but that one wand is impacting the millions of people's lives because the physical therapist gets it or the occupational therapist gets it, the PTA gets it and then gives it to the patient. The patient gets it, starts to use it, then tells other people that one product. Now is more of Amanda's time being taken up. And. And because she is all these people are using her product. No, she created a product and she's letting that product basically sell itself to all, to a bigger audience. And she has a massive outreaching, but all she had to do was create one product. That's very important, Very, very important. So creating projects are huge. Or even just selling products. If you didn't create the product, then sell the product. Another thing is you can do, number three is a subscription service. You could do something to where you had a membership. And then after the people, patients were done in your office, you could have them continue on into a subscription service and you could save for $30 a month. You can continue on to have access to all these different products that are here online in our online membership that we have. So that's also something that you can do. Another thing is, is I was talking about before selling products or making a product, you can make products. It doesn't have to be fancy dilators and wands that Amanda made, but it could be T shirts that you sell that Have a cool slogan on it. Maybe you created a book so you can sell a book. Maybe you've created. There's this like really cool stuff, candles on Etsy that people have made. It's like body candles. And like, who doesn't want that in the clinic? It looks really cool. Um, there's also things as simple as people have made penises and vag donuts. Like, I'm guess I'm getting outside the box, but I need you to get outside the box to think about different products that you can sell that you just make the product. And once you've made the product, it doesn't take more of your time and you can give that to many different people. Okay. Um, another thing, number five on the list is workshops, if you want to condense your time. Okay, so let's, let's break this down so we can really understand this here. Okay? If I'm treating one on one, most pelvic health therapists charge around 200 an hour. Okay. That are cash based. So I treat a patient, I get $200. I treat another patient, I get $200, treat another patient to get $200. So let's just say for the day you're getting about a thousand dollars. Okay. If I did a workshop and by the way, and that's an eight hour day, right? If I did a workshop, let's just say that's one hour long and I charge let's just say one hour long and I charge 300 or 400 for that workshop. I would then need half of the patients that I saw. So I would just need four people to join my workshop to make the same amount of money. And it only take one hour of my time instead of eight hours of my time in a normal day. So do you guys see this? When you're talking about condensing the time that it takes to do things, but either to make the same amount of money or to make more money and more impact, I'm just using my one hour to then spread massive impact. The same thing is for a podcast. Okay? Podcast. That's another way that instead of me getting on a coaching call with you one on one, I'm. This is a coaching call. I'm literally teaching you how to have more impact in the world. So I make this. I sit down for 30 minutes to an hour, I make a podcast, and then this gets broadcasted out to hundreds of people. And then there I can create more of an impact. And it doesn't take all my time getting on a hundred coaching calls. With people trying to tell them how to do certain things. Because the podcast speaks for itself and it should be providing you guys massive, massive value. I would love in the comment section if you can say just something and give five star reviews. It'd be amazing if you can get five star reviews for these podcasts because it does take some effort and I really like bringing you guys straight up value and no fluff. So, you know, if you could do that, that'd be amazing. Thank you. That being said, so podcast is another way also social media doing lives, Isn't that one too many? That's one to many. So going on social media and you can also collaborate with people, right? In spreading your message on social media constantly, not just once. You have to be consistent every single day. Spreading your message that's once made, you're collapsing your time down. So instead of you just treating one on one, you now can say something, put it out there and it's being blasted to the public to where many people are getting your message and understand where you're coming from. So I want you guys to leave this podcast today thinking what is something that I can do that takes up maybe one hour or 30 minutes of my time that I can not only just impact one person, that I can impact many, many, many people. And I'm going to leave you there with that. I consider myself a business and life coach. Are you ready to live the life of your dreams as an entrepreneur? If so, let's chat.
