Life Lessons Learned from Tony Robbins
22 Mar 2025 · 16 min
Host Kelly Alhooie reflects on lessons learned from attending a Tony Robbins event. Major points: the importance of where you place your focus (you experience the life you focus on), the link between emotion and life (emotion drives experience), and the value of giving. Robbins' frameworks covered include three decisions (focus as primary), three pattern skills (recognition, utilization, creation), and four life seasons (spring 0–21, summer 21–41, fall 42–62, winter 63–83). Applied entrepreneurship takeaways: scaling beyond seven figures requires changes in approach (80% mindset, 20% tactical), build systems to survive AI-driven change, and cultivate/shift energy even when unwell.

What's up, guys? Welcome to Pelfibiz Podcast. I'm your host, Kelly Elhue. Today I'm going to talk about the first time me hearing Tony Robbins on stage and the life lessons he kind of gave us. And it's amazing when you hear the goat because you listen. So he said, I think this is great that he said, you can't just push it like you did to get to 1 million. And I think that is. I know that's true. I've experienced that myself. You have to change. Once you hit seven figures, you've got to make a change and do it differently. It just. You can grind it out to make a million fairly easy. All you have to do is have willpower. But once you hit that million take, get to the 2 million, 3 million, 4 million. You have to do it differently because you can't just grind it out. So I thought that was, like, really powerful and very, very accurate. So then he also said this. There's three decisions. You are making three decisions. He said, number one, what are you going to focus on? So you guys have to decide that. What are you going to focus on? Okay, so, like, I'm going to focus on getting clients. I'm going to focus on my family. I'm going to focus on my relationships. Like, what do you want to focus on? And he basically said, you experience the life that you choose to focus on. That's it. I was like, yeah, that's pretty accurate. And he said, we have control over our focus, so it controls our emotions. So if you are choosing to focus on the person that calls you stupid on Instagram, the person that said, I hate you, you should die, like, you're choosing to focus on that. That's all you will hear. But if you choose to focus on, hey, I have my health. It's sunny outside today. Like, I get to go for a walk. Like, if you choose to focus on the positive things, then your life will be so much more fulfilled and you'll be so much more thankful and think that, okay, fine, maybe I'm not dying in this entrepreneurial land. Okay? The next thing he said is, mean equals emotion. Emotion equals life. So basically, when you are, you know, very emotional, which I tend to be an emotional person, if you're very emotional and you're focusing on the negative, you could not have a good life. But if you focus on the positive, you could have an amazing life. And then what else did he say? Add more value to any marketplace, and that means you do more for others. And he told a Story about how when he was a kid, he brought food over to these homes that couldn't afford, you know, even dinner. And that's what really inspired him, changed his life. And so now he serves over, like, a million people for food. Like, he gives over. You know, I think it's even more than that. It's over, like, a million dinners a year to people. I mean, it's something insane. So that's pretty cool, pretty inspiring. He also said this, and I've said this myself, because I tend to want to give to people, so I have to be mindful of this. He said, who's ever said I give them everything? And I was like, me? And he's like, well, if you gave them everything, then why didn't they stay around? He said, once you start measuring what you've given them and what they've given you, then it's a transaction. And then that's when people start becoming resentful, start becoming weird and awkward. And he's like, you cannot measure what you give to people. He was like, you have to keep giving, giving, giving. And I am a big giver, but sometimes you do get wrapped up with like, oh, my God, I gave them everything. He was like, if you gave them everything, they wouldn't have left. And I was like, right, yes, true. So that was eye opening, too. I mean, everything he said was very like, is he talking to me? Like, clearly, he knows what he's doing. He said, huge goal, big reason. Huge goal, big reason. When I started orthopelvic, I only started it because it was out of desperation and pain. I didn't want my own business. I had a big goal because I had lots of pain and continue to. And so that alone was like, game on. Here we go. He also said, this entrepreneur journey is 80% mindset, 20% tactile. It's your emotional energy that you must have. This hit me like a ton of bricks, because for those that know me, I've been in my coaching programs, I'm very tactile. I just give you the shit. Let's get shit done. And it works because we get amazing results, okay? However, most people need the 80% mindset, even though most of them believe that they don't need that. So, you know, if you've been listening, following along to podcasts, we are switching things up here. I'm changing the way I do Pel Biz, and I'm going to be adding more mindset, emotional bandwidth, how to get energy, all that kind of stuff, because I truly believe that Makes you an amazing entrepreneur, and you be able to stay in the game to handle whatever's coming your way. What else are you saying? If you. More than you, the process will give you the energy. He said this. If you find something that is more than you, the process will give you energy. And it's the process of. And it's like the process that you, like, fall in love with. You know what I'm saying? So, like, for me, I've always said this. The second my focus starts going away from one company that doesn't serve me, like, that doesn't just, like, give me energy, I need to shut that company down, because I have to be. I'm just one of those. I have to be highly passionate about what I do, because when I'm passionate about what I do, I am all in. I am so in. I don't know if you guys feel the same way. Some people are like, no, you don't have to be passionate about it. You just have to keep doing the boring thing over and over again. And it's like, you can live that life, but for me, that's not a fulfilled life. Like, I don't want something just because it makes me money. I just. I just. I don't. Like, I'm not the person that's like, oh, we got to keep it because it makes me money. No, I'd rather go broke and do something I'm passionate about while broke and figure out a way how to make me money in the process of it, even though it might be painful, but I'd rather be broke. So I don't know. Maybe y' all are different, but. And I think it's kind of taken me a moment to get there because I. You know, when you have all the student loan debt and all that kind of stuff, you're like, I'll do anything for money, you know? But now it's like, no, I just want to do what I'm passionate about, and I want it to be fun, and I want to do it with fun people. You know, it's just a different mindset. I think it's just maturity and going through different situations. You. Your whatchamacallit, shifts. Like, you just. You just think differently. So that's pretty interesting. He also. This. This was. This is really eye opening. I think this is very true. Patterns. Patterns. I was like, patterns? What Patterns? Patterns. The whole game in life. I was like, what the hell is this guy talking about? He said, you aren't a pattern. All you have to do is understand how to Trigger patterns. And I was like, what patterns? Like, this guy is like this massive speaker. He's talking about patterns. He's like, all you have to do is understand how to trigger patterns. Like what? He said this. Learn three skills that will change you. And this is what he meant by patterns. He said, number one, pattern recognition. Instead of reacting, he said, losers react, winners anticipate. They know the road ahead. I was like, oh, that's good, because that's true. You've been in business for some time, you can anticipate what's about to happen. But losers, they're just firefighting 24 7. So if you can recognize patterns in business or in life and in people, then you're going to know how to react or how to respond to them without being like, how do I figure this thing out? So. So I thought that was like, eye opening. He also said, number two, pattern utilization. That's what he said. Pattern utilization. How are you utilizing the patterns? Number three was pattern creation. You create the roadmap that is union to you. Like, you create the roadmap that is, sorry, unique. Sorry. You create the roadmap that's unique to you. Pelvibiz is unique. It's a. It's a completely different roadmap than any other therapist I know, but it's a roadmap that yields results. So. And I love it because I created it and it works. Time and a time and time and time, time, time and again. So there's three patterns. Pattern recognition you gotta anticipate. There's pattern utilization and there's pattern creation, where you're creating your own roadmap and then bringing that to the world. He then went in to talk about seasons. I thought this was very interesting. Seasons. Seasons. He said this, you know, first he started with spring. Spring is the time of growth. And he said, this is when we're at the age of 0 to 21. So think about it. You're in college. You're trying to figure out what you want to do. You're pretty much, you know, in school that entire time. And you're just trying to know who you are and figure out yourself. So that's springtime. Then you have summer. Summer comes around. This is where we fight and we improve ourselves in this stage. And this is stage when you're 21 years old all the way to 41 years old. And he said, it's not the happiest of times because you're constantly fighting. You're going to be the most stressed in this stage. You're going to be the most tested in this stage, he said, because you're on the brink of figuring out what's the next 40 years going to look like? What's the next 50 years going to look like? You know, there's a lot of life. What is it going to look like? And so that's summer. And he said fall. Fall is when you're 42 to 62. He said, this was the power season. I was like, okay, power season's coming. I can't wait the power season. I'm ready for the power season because I'm in summer, man, and I've been fighting for a while. So power season. He said, if you did your job in summer and spring, then you'll get all the benefits in fall. He said, pretty much this is the best season. He said, you know, all the patterns people call you now midlife. So you kind of predict of what's going to happen next, and you don't have to, like, react and try to figure it out. You. You kind of already have had at least one cycle through it, so you kind of already know how to respond to it. He said, that's fall. And then he said winter is when you're 63 to 83. And he said, if you take care of your health, then it will be the best time for you. And you got lots to give during this stage. You got lots of knowledge. You just got lots to give. He said, if you don't take care of your health, he said, winter is going to be hell for you. I was like, oh, okay. Note to self. I have to take care of myself. You know, I got to take care of myself. Because who wants to get to 63 and be, like, cool, made it this far in life. Now I got to go spend all my time at these doctor's offices and whatever else. Like, it's horrible. It's just horrible. I would never do that, ever. I would say, put me out. I told my husband, just put me out before that season. So he said, winter is where you get strong or you die. That's it. He said, all seasons test the crap out of you, and then you get better. If you do well in the season, you will do well the rest of your life. He believes in 15 years from now, it's going to be very easy. He believes the next five to 10 years is going to be pretty hard. So we just got to hang on and make sure that you're really planting the seeds and doing all the things that you need to do, because he believes you know, with AI and, you know, he runs, I think, 150 companies, and, you know, everything is going to shift and pivot, and I need you guys to be prepared for that. And that's why I'm trying to coach you how to build assets and how to have systems, because if you don't have that, you will be outrun by AI. You cannot keep up with AI. I don't care who you are, if you're superhuman, you can't. This is why you have to have systems. You can't just be like, oh, keep doing it the way I'm doing it. It will not work, guys. It will not work. The seasons are changing big time. I believe this is gonna be like a bigger than 2008. Like, I think it's gonna be a massive. It's gonna be like Y2K, but even bigger. I truly believe that. I do a lot of research on this stuff at night, and I believe you're going to have to learn new skills 100%. I know that for a fact. And you're gonna have to learn it quickly, because if you don't, you will be eaten. He also said this. The level of energy you bring is key. More than mental. You have to be aware of the energy around you. So he basically said if your energy is low, you have to create energy. You have to shift your energy even when you don't feel like it. And I was like, oh, man. And I'm sitting at the conference. I'm sick. You guys could probably hear in these podcasts, I've been sick. I've been literally sick for the last month. I don't know what the hell I have, but I can't get over it. Well, it's getting better, but I still have to do things. It's not like I can stop. So I gotta shift my energy to do a podcast and be able to talk even when I don't have a voice.
