Welcome to Pelby biz podcast. I'm Dr. Kelly Alhui. I have grown and established brick and mortar practice in Northern Virginia called Ortho Pelvic Physical Therapy and also founded Pelvibiz, which is an online business consulting company that helps healthcare providers make more money and be healthy while doing it, especially in the pelvic health realm. And let's get into today's episode. Today I'm going to talk about the importance of taking care of yourself. This has been the hardest lesson, I would say, of the entrepreneurship journey that I've ever taken part of is taking care of yourself. I tend to put every single person before myself just because, I don't know, I just do that over myself. I'm just like, eh, it can wait. The reality is you, if you're an entrepreneur, you have got to prep your body like a professional athlete that is going to go play in the super bowl tomorrow because you don't know what the heck is going to happen in business. You don't know. Tomorrow your whole staff could be wiped out and you got to go in tomorrow. Your you could be so full that you got to figure out what's the next direction. You got to immediately find a new office space. You could tomorrow find out someone passed away in your family and you gotta figure out how to do this event and also go to a funeral. I don't know, I'm just talking out loud here, okay? But whatever it is, you've got to be ready to go at all freaking times. What I mean by that is physically, you have got to be physically fit. You really do. What I've realized when you see patients in clinic is there is some stamina you have to have in the fact that you gotta fuel yourself. You don't fuel yourself and you're talking to patients. Like at my clinic we see seven patients a day. So if you're talking to patients for seven hours a day, that's a lot of talking, by the way. Doesn't sound like much, but that's a lot of talking. And you're not fueling. How are you going to keep your energy up between the first patient and the last patient? You're going to be dead by the end of the day. So you have to have stuff to eat constantly to fuel, to make your brain go and to also get your energy up. The next thing is. Well, I think the biggest thing is you got to sleep. If you don't sleep, how are you supposed to process what needs to be done? How are you supposed to think about how to run your company. How are you supposed to think about what's the next step in progressing? Like the patient, maybe with exercises or maybe in their treatment plan. You're not going to be able to think because you'll be so tired, be yawning and be like, can't wait for this to get over with. As I yawn right now. Okay, right on cue. So are you doing that, like, for me? I protect my sleep at all costs. My bed gets cold. I have fans, I have the darkness. I have sound machines. I mean, I do every freaking thing to sleep well. Because I truly know that if I sleep well, I can have infinite amount of energy. If I don't sleep well, it's not good. I try to shut my mind down before bed. You have got to do that. So for those people that have anxiety going into work, you've got to figure out what brings you down and does not give you anxiety. Is that watching the Kardashians? Is that playing video games? Is that doing a puzzle at night? Is that reading at night? What brings you down? You have got to do that for yourself. Otherwise, if you stay up all the time, you will crash and burn and. And that's called burnout. You'll 100% be burnt out. So you have to have a routine that's a downer. I can't watch, like, I love just educating the crap out of myself constantly. I can't watch an educational video and then go night night because my mind then is racing on all these ideas that I could be doing. What's the next step? What could I be doing? So I don't do that. You gotta have something that's like, fun, funny, light, I don't know, selling sunset, whatever it may be, you just got to be able to bring it down a notch. So that's huge. That's sleep. Okay, food. I think I talked about that movement. Now, as we age, you do not have to be going to hardcore hiit workouts. It may be maybe you're so busy right now because you're doing all the things. You're seeing all the patients, you're answering all the phones, you're scheduling, you're doing all the things. Maybe right now in this phase, you may just be lucky enough to just go sit outside for 10 minutes and take some deep breaths. That is wellness right there. You do not have to go to a boot camp to feel that you now have completed a wellness for yourself. Maybe you're at the phase where you're still seeing patients and now you have Some administration, but you're still, like, super, super busy because you're marketing as well. Maybe you're taking the kids out somewhere and all you have time for is for a walk. Great, go for a walk. That's your workout for the day. And give yourself credit for that because you went for a walk. So maybe that's your thing. But I would say to keep it going in business, you have to have these habits, and it doesn't. I'm not talking about create. Not talking about. You have to do cold plunge and then asana, and then you have to work out for five hours, and then you have to do this. I'm not talking about all that. I'm talking about very basic, simple things that overall will keep your health up and your energy level high. So I don't. I mean, my routine. If I showed you guys my schedule, you'd be like, how the heck do you maintain the level of energy that you do all day long? It's because I'm very particular about A, time and B, what my body is doing. I do not drink alcohol because it lowers my energy, and I can't just have any less of energy. I don't. I don't know. I'm just very aware about what I put in my body. I don't just put, you know, candy in my body because I know that will not do well at all. So I'm cautious about that. But you've got to have nutrition on point. So if you need to hire a nutritionist, hire a nutritionist. If you don't move because you're so not motivated or you're just like, I'm freaking tired. Hire a trainer to just get you started and get you moving. Okay? Create the team for yourself. We do it for patients, so why aren't we creating that for self? If you're like, mentally, I can't check out because I'm so upregulated. Okay. Sometimes I go through the phases of this where I'm so. I have so much on my plate where I'm like, okay, I need a therapist on board, you know, psychotherapist. Because I'm like, I don't know how to mentally come down from what is going on in my head because there's so much that's going on. So, you know, if you need that, hire that kind of therapist and have them mentally be able to walk you through what's going to help you be able to see a clearer path or maybe not feel so overwhelmed or maybe not have so much burnout or whatever. Else that is right. So put that person on your team. Make sure you're getting the sleep. So how are you going to do that? Are you going to promise yourself at, you know, this time you're going to watch an hour of TV before bed because that chills you out? Sure, do that. Why not? So I really. I really think if you can take care of yourself and keep yourself super healthy, then you're going to be able to do really well in business. If you don't take care of yourself, then I don't know how you're going to have stamina to do business or to really, truly help patients because you yourself don't understand what is required to have discipline enough to be able to then help coach patience on how to have discipline and be able to execute on whatever goal they're trying to do. So I think stamina is huge to just continue to make it in whatever you're trying to do. So sleep, nutrition, psychotherapist on board. So mentally, and then sleep, nutrition, and exercise, I would say those are the four components that if you are struggling kind of in business and you start to improve those things, you will see so much growth, not only in yourself, but also in business. And I truly believe and think every single day I'm like LeBron James. And the fact that. Have I ever played basketball before? No. But I envision myself, I really do this. I envision myself that I am the LeBron James in pelvic health. And the fact that I have to have a web of people around me that help me with food, that help me with exercise, that helps me with psychotherapy, that helps me with sleep so that I can keep performing at the level that I desire to perform at. If I didn't desire to perform at a very high level, well, then I'll probably just eat bonbons all day long and sit on the couch. But I truly want to maximize my day and be able to wake up every single day excited to start my day and be like, what can I accomplish today? Let me attack the day and let me see what I can get done today and let me see how many people I can help and how many lives I can actually change. I would truly wake up every single day being like, yes, I can't wait to do that and watch this change this person is going to have and watch this transformation. I'm all about growth and transformation with my employees, with my Mastermind people, my CAP program, anyone that's around that I'm around. I want massive growth for them. And I Just love seeing it and I really thrive off that. So you've got to take care of yourself to a very, very high level when it comes to having big goals and coaching other people on big goals. Otherwise you'll be dead in the water. And if you don't have your health, like they say, you can't have anything you don't have. Health is the greatest wealth. Health is the greatest wealth. And I truly believe that if you're healthy, you can do anything. It may take you a little bit longer time, but at least you can keep keep one foot in front of the other. If you're not healthy, that could quickly go down the drain. So super, super important to take care of yourself and give to you instead of us giving to everyone else. So hopefully you guys have a great night and you enjoyed this podcast about just the importance of take caring you. And hopefully this is a little reminder that you know what I do take care of everyone, especially most of us are moms on here. Whether you're a dog mom, a human mom, whatever, you tend to put those people first and yourself last. And if you're truly going to want to stay in the business, you got to think about you and you got to give to yourself as well. So. All right guys, this has been fun. Have a great night. Bye guys.
