Hey, is your dream to be a law enforcement pilot? I got some good news for you. Welcome to day 111. Yeah, day 111. Copy with Kenny. I'm Kenny Keller, creator helicopter online ground school and author of Amazon bestseller Helicopter Checkride and Amazon number one bestseller top 10 checkride tips that I co authored with 2018 flight instructor of the year, Dan Taz. Chrisman. So, coffee with Kenny today. I was just home getting ready to do coffee with Kenny as I normally do at home, and I thought, hey, the hangar's 12 minutes away. Just go to the hangar and do it today. Just because I was gonna do it at home. Been a couple stressful days. And I thought, heck with it. Jump in the. Jump in the car and go to the hangar. This is so exciting. You know, video yesterday was bringing Heather over and kind of announcing to the world. We're now at the municipal Warsaw Municipal Airport, and that is asw, because many have been asking. So that's Warsaw, Indiana, the Warsaw Municipal Airport Identifier, asw. Happy to be here. Excited to be here. This is awesome. So don't make fun of my flowery coffee cup. I was in a hurry. Coffee number three. I started making it and there was nothing under. I forgot to put a coffee cup under it. So I grabbed what was ever in the cabinet. This must be my daughter's. So anyway, I'm excited to bring this to you. I had a long conversation last night on the phone with an officer from the California Highway Patrol that flies helicopters, and he's a safety officer and instructor pilot as well. So for the naysayers that are going to make some wise comments, you know, we try to be motivational and let you know of opportunities and things are available, and people are always naysayers and say, oh, you know, this can't happen. Well, here you go. Everybody thinks there's not a. You know, some people think that there's not a future for helicopter pilots. And I'm going to read this to you so you know the validity of this video and this subject. This was as an original email and I'm going to read it to you just so you get the drift of what's really going on here. He said, hi, Kenny. I subscribed a while back when I was getting my civilian helicopter CFI rating and enjoy the program and all the hard work you do. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. I currently fly for the California Highway Patrol and there's going to be a potential pilot shortage in the next several years. Currently, our department requirements to be eligible Is that you have your helicopter commercial and instrument ratings and 300 hours pic time. Not bad, right? That's doable. Additionally, you have to do two years of road time as an officer before you can apply. Our air operations program is a regional program with eight bases throughout California. Our primary missions are law enforcement, search and rescue and ALS medevacs as well as everything else in between. We are trained in high mountain operations as well as NVG operations, external load operations which include long line hoist and one skid landing operations. I started flying back in 1992 for the US army is still due flying in the uh, 72 Lakota. Current assignment is an instructor pilot as well as aviation safety officer. I've been in the CHP air operations program since 1998 and currently as an instructor pilot and safety officer as well. I only have a few years to go before retirement and looking to get the word out about our program. Would love to chat more with you. So I had a chance last night. I was driving home late after leaving the hangar. I was in here last night messing around, just looking around, you know, in awe. And so I had to run back to the old city, you know, and I just gave him a call and we had a nice chat on the phone and he explained to me that, you know, they're going to have guys retiring and for those of you that are seeking that law enforcement pilot career, I get it because that was my dream. And it was pretty exciting conversation when he told me all about it. And I said, man, if I wasn't 54 and I was 34, I would be out there trying to get that job. And he kind of chuckled and he said, well, 34 is the cutoff. So kind of funny that he brought that up. And we were discussing, you know, that was my dream originally, right, Law enforcement, to fly in law enforcement. But dreams change and I created my own niche here. So, you know, it's okay people if your dream changes over time. Nothing wrong with that. So in the conversation I said, what do you want me to throw this out there in a coffee with Kenny? And he goes, well, yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. He goes, I've been, I'm not only one of your members, but I've been watching coffee with Kenny. And he goes, I like all these topics that you bring up that people don't really talk about, you know, try to find things that are of interest to those of you out there. And he was just like, I really enjoy that. So anyway, I'll make this Story way too long if I keep going to basically just kind of wrap it up. He said, you know, for those guys, and if that's their career, man, this would be a good place to come. And it would be a good place. Most anywhere you go, you're going to have to do a couple years as a road officer. So if you want to go the law enforcement pilot route, that's pretty standard. Anywhere you go, once you get hired, you're probably going to need at least two years on the road before you can apply to the aviation unit. But he was saying it's very, very doable. Door keeps going close on me over here. So as we're talking, you know, I know what's in my mind, right? I'm thinking, man, I want to go to California. I want to go out there and see Brian soon anyway. And he goes, well, hey, door keeps closing on me. He goes, well, hey, why don't you come out and do a ride along? And I'm like, well, that's kind of what I was getting at or was kind of hoping. And he goes, by all means, come out here. So I said, you know what? In seven years, I've had so many good offers to go places and visit and working so hard over seven years to get this thing built up. It was always, you know, man, I can't leave or I don't have the money or whatever the case is. And I thought, you know what? Damn it, it's time to start getting out and taking these opportunities that I get instead of just missing them over and over again. I got things to where, you know, Heather can run things and take care of customers and take care of all of you hogs members when I'm gone, or I can take Heather with me and we can do this on the road, right? We can operate from anywhere. So we decided we're going to talk again today. He's going to check maintenance schedules so he's got a couple of helicopters available when I do come in case one goes down. So we're looking at our schedules, and I'm going to touch base with him today, and I'm going to go to California and I'm going to do a ride along. And I. So I asked him, I said, so how about I introduce this tomorrow during coffee with Kenny? And then when I come to California, we can talk more and I can actually, you know, interview a couple of you guys, or if you want to be on camera, we can talk and people could ask some questions. And he's like, by all means, man, come out. So I was so freaking excited. So here's part one. I'm going to go to California. I'm going to fly with this gentleman, get to experience it firsthand. And of course we're going to share that with all of you. So I'm so thrilled. And I decided, talking to one of my buddies last night, after talking to Kevin, I said, you know what? I'm going to get the rest of these. These trips scheduled. And the one, you know, I got invited to NYPD Aviation unit from one of our Hugs members that works currently flying for the NYPD Aviation. Since I mentioned that in a video, another HOGS member has come forward who's a detective for nypd and he said, kenny, I saw that video come out. And we'll fly the R44 or R22 over and land at the NYPD helipad. I'm like, are you kidding me? So I'm gonna do that. So I'm gonna get the California trip scheduled today. I'm gonna talk to the guys at nypd. I'm gonna get that one scheduled. I've got. Enstrom has invited me up several times to the factory because I haven't been there a long time. I'm gonna contact Enstrom today. I'm gonna get that one scheduled. And there's one other one I'm thinking of. I'll think of it. Anyway, there's a. There's a fourth one of recent invites where I'm yeah, yeah, we need to do that. I'll think of it later. We'll cover it in another video. So, like. And subscribe to the channel. We do a daily video. Having a blast. I can't thank all of you enough. Yesterday was overwhelming. Two days ago, getting the keys and going, man, is this really happening? And then yesterday bringing Heather over, man, what a wonderful day. But a lot of stress and it's good stress, right? And I want to tell you something for those of you that go, man, this guy's jumping ahead. Maybe he's getting ahead of himself. Guess what? I'm not. Would you believe that I moved up to this and I'm going to actually save money? Can you believe that? From what I was paying at my previous airport, I kept an apartment nearby so that if I worked late, I had somewhere to stay. And I have a storage unit that I've had stuff in for seven years since my life did kind of go to shit in 2012. And I had a 40 by 70 pole building that I owned for 20 years. And I had to sell that building in 2012. And it hurt, you know, it was like a breakup with your high school sweetheart. Oh my God, it hurts so bad. So to get this, it's kind of like getting back my pole building that was my, you know, 20 year haven where I kept my vehicles and my stuff and most all of it gone of course, but getting it all back now. And so when I shed the rent from the other airport, that didn't even really include what I need to do. Didn't look anywhere near as beautiful as this. And I shed that apartment and I shed that storage unit and move my tools because all I kept, you know, 2012, when things went to hell, I kept tools, right? Because everybody talks about what happens if the economy goes bad and we'll all be horse trading and stuff. And I did carpenter work majority of my life, you know, both full time as right out of high school. And over the years I've done a lot of stuff like that. So I always thought, man, I got to keep my tools no matter what, right? Keep the things that a guy can use. So once I move my tools over here, I can get rid of that storage unit. So ultimately, and then my accountant was so impressed, she's like doing the numbers and she's like, you're moving up to a much better place in a new location, new chapter, new life, shedding the drama from the past and you're gonna spend less money. How flippin cool is that, man? So if you think I'm excited, that's why, you know, so people, you know, we're scared to move on sometimes. But man, can it be sweet? It can just be so flipping sweet that it's unbelievable. Alright, I'm gonna wrap this up, run back home so I can edit this up and get it out to you before noon too funny. I get up as usual. Coffee number one. Oh man, I already knew I was gonna do the California Highway Patrol thing because I was excited about that coffee number two. I started thinking, well am I gonna do it in the kitchen again? I thought wait a minute, you know to go to the airport before is a 37 minute drive. And I'm like, I can be at the, I can be at the new hangar, at the Hogs hangar. I can be at the hogs hangar in 12 minutes. Like dude, just jump in the car, grab your camera, grab your mic and go. And here I am. So this is 2019 at the making this video. This is going to be the biggest year of Hogs ever. And the momentum, you know, I've covered it all pretty much in previous videos anyway. Freaking amazing. All of you are amazing. Every one of you that makes a comment does a like, gives us a thumbs up. Hogs members. I can't thank everyone enough. I'm about ready to cry. Flipping amazing. Give me a thumbs up and like the video. If you don't like the video, click the like button twice. Yeah, we'll see you in day one. One, two. Oh yeah. And tomorrow I did the camera back purposely this way so you can see all of our space. But tomorrow our guys coming for the detail on 26 Papa. And he's good, right? I had him look at it. Dr. Nick's been talking about getting it painted. And I said, dude, let's see if we can just. Let's get a detail guy to look at it first. And he came out and took a look. He goes, oh man, Kenny. He goes, I can bring that paint back. I can make that thing shine. Which is part of the new setup. Right. This is going to be the production area over here. And instead of looking at a wall as a background for our videos, our background for the videos is going to be a beautiful, shiny, badass helicopter. Hell yeah. Alright, see you all day in 112.
