#202 Helicopter Pilot Brushing Up With Training (after 2.5 decades not flying)

Good morning. Got a great question for day 202. Coffee with Kenny. I am Kenny Keller, creator of Helicopter Land Ground School. We got a question from a former military pilot. This is a great question for rusty pilots. Anybody that's been out of it for a while that wants to get back in. And I've got something that will relate for Scott. He says, kenny, I'm a former military helicopter pilot with about 2000 hours commercial rating and an instrument rating. That was 25 years ago. I recently decided to fly again. Good for you. That's freaking awesome. 11 days short of 25 years. Got my BFR signed off. It really is like riding a bike on the muscle memory. That's awesome. And I've heard this before. I flew with a Navy pilot who didn't fly for many years and he got a job working at the EMS base that I worked at, same deal. The muscle memory came right back to him on flying. He hadn't flown in many years. He never even said how many. But it'd been since the airspace change, right? So it'd been many years. And he said that was the hard part for him was getting back in and studying in learning the airspace, the new airspace, even though it's not real new. But you know, many people don't realize that the airspace was completely, entirely different a while back. So he goes on to say, but my detail knowledge is obviously lacking, having not been in the aviation environment for 2.5 decades. That's just crazy, man. But. But it's crazy cool, right? I think, I think it would be beneficial to run through the courses on hogs to obtain a good, thorough refresher on the details. I've forgotten. Last time I flew, the airspace was called something completely different. What level of courses would you recommend? We have so many people that are starting later in life and then we have lots of people who are just starting out brand new that are younger, and then we have people that are rusty pilots. You know, it's very simply said, you haven't flown in 25 years. I think it's extremely cool that you're getting back in it. So to answer your question, I think, you know, I'm a businessman, but maybe sometimes a poor businessman. Instead of selling you the great big package, I think for you I'd Go for this private pilot monthly because it's only $49 a month and all of our knowledge starts with basic private pilot stuff, right? But you're probably not going to need all that unless you decide to start flying commercially or start or work on your cfi, which, who knows, you get flying again, you may be so excited, you may say, heck, I want to start instructing because I don't think you have the cfi, by the way, that reads.
