#207 What is included Private Pilot Membership?

Kenny Keller breaks down the Private Pilot membership: 120 videos across 18 hours of ground school following the Helicopter Flying Handbook, organized into 20 lessons. It costs $49 a month and prepares you for oral, written, and flight tests. He stresses that ground school study counts for about 75% of training, and shares how one member, Johan, finished private training fast because he studied first.

Day 207. Coffee with Kenny. This is not the size of coffee I'm looking for. I am from the Midwest, I do have to say. Hot Wire strikes again. We got a crazy cool place in downtown San Francisco. Very cool. Very, very cool. I found it very, very interesting. Found some of the coolest places with Hotwire. Definitely one of the most unique places I can think of. I've stayed. This is my first time in San Francisco. Wasn't sure when we got here because we were so tired, but now that we had some good sleep, it is pretty darn cool. Heather is in the offices while we're gone, taking care of all the members and technical support. She's been with us now for a year and a half and is getting more and more into the technical stuff and does more and more every day. So for this trip, we're just kind of winging it. Different place every night. See how it goes. And now we're checking out, waiting on the valet. I have to admit, I am kind of digging the valet. Little taste of the good life. And there's our car. Oh, yeah. Digging it, digging it, digging it. Can't say I was ever really a big BMW fan, but this thing is really freaking cool. Sarah, I just had one of the top five hamburgers of my life at the Napa Valley Burger Company. I'm telling you, it was one of the top five. This is a place just south of the bridge. Gloria, where are we? What's the name of this little town? Sausalito. Oh, my God. The YouTube cheeseburger. If you want to have one of the best you've ever had in your whole entire life, that's an opinion. That's my opinion. And Gloria said, do it. You won't do it. You won't do a video with help people on the street. Or she said, chicken. So for years, I couldn't even shoot a video in my office with anybody even in the room for about the first five to six years. And now I'm shooting a video on the street with all these people. She's laughing at me. All right, next scene. Yeah, that was an awesome burger. So we're actually gonna get to something productive today from Philip. And Philip was telling me how he's getting ready to start his training next year, and he's gonna be flying in Alaska. And he said, I saw. I signed up for the private pilot, but I was wondering what my current subscription entails. There's actually a beginning of the course, Philip. There's an actual PDF you can click on that shows you every single video in the entire course. But that's 120 videos. Very simply, if you're already a member, you've logged in. There's 20 different lessons and each lessons has anywhere between five to 10 or 12 videos. All you really got to know is just work through the course step by step. The private pilot is just set up to just work you through the information. We follow the helicopter flying handbook and cover a lot of different things. It prepares you for the oral test, the written test and the flight test. So really just go in and start working through the training step by step. I mean, you can look through the course to see what's there, but it's a full fledged course, 120 videos over 18 hours. So I would just start working through the course because you've got plenty of time. And then Philip said, I definitely want to sign up for the commercial training videos as well. Or if you have a professional package, Philip, it depends on what's right for you. Since you're not starting till next year, you can go month to month, you can cancel any time. At the private pilot level, it's only $49 a month. And over time, of course, that's going to add up to more money. Yes. Then there's a commercial package. The private includes the commercial. But I don't know that I'd get too excited about really studying the commercial right now. I always tell people, focus on the private, get that done, then worry about the commercial. So depending on your finances and your budget, what works best for you? You can just do the monthly if you want, or you could do the yearly. And then you asked about a professional pilot package. Yes, we do have a great big professional pilot package, which is more money, but that's more money because it is unlimited. It's not monthly, it's not yearly, it never expires. That includes private, that includes commercial, that includes instrument, that includes certified flight instructor. All four of those ratings, all four of those memberships are bundled into one package. And that's why it's called the professional package doesn't expire. So that's going to be more money for you up front. But then you're not going to have recurring charges month to month or year to year. So depending on what's right for you for your budget is what you're going to need to decide to do. And look at it. I will throw out to you, Philip and anybody else comes across video for hanging around this long. KK 25 off will get you 25 off. That big performance, professional pilot package. What are. And so then he goes on to say, what are some things I can accomplish during the two years of saving money and learning? What would you suggest I do in the meantime before arriving in Anchorage? I appreciate any help. Thanks again for the. All you do for the helicopter community. God bless Phillips. Philip. Thank you, Philip. You've got time. So again, it depends on what your all depends on your budget, how you want to go through the ground school. But we do have videos done, a ton of testimonial videos sent in by our members who showed up for flight training completely prepared. And Johan is one of our favorite guys we love talking about. Johan literally showed up at a flight school in Florida after coming in from outside the country and amazed his instructors when he showed up the first day, instructor evaluates him and says, sheer grounds. Knowledge is done. Tells another instructor this. And this other instructor says, oh, yeah, right, let me check the guy out. And then that instructor actually text me or sent me an email and said, kenny, this kid showed up completely done. He knew everything he needed to know for a private pilot. We did his reading in three weeks, start to finish, from off the street. Never flown to private pilot in three weeks because Johan had all the knowledge. Within a few days, he did the written test, had it done, and they just flew. And they just flew. And they flew in three weeks, and he was done. So it all depends on you, Philip. It depends on how you want to go about it. I don't know what other things you got going on in your life, Work, school, anything else while you're saving money. So I would just study. The more you study, the more you know, the better off you'll be when you get to your flight school and it's going to end, the train is going to go faster. Knowledge is power in this, in this industry, in this whole profession and getting your license. It's all about the knowledge. I don't care what anybody tells you. 25% of it is learning to fly the helicopter. 75% of it's knowing the knowledge. And that's what the whole profession is about. We talk a lot more about flying than we actually fly. All right, we're gonna wrap it up. This is day 207. I think I said in the beginning. Hope. This is one of the most entertaining videos we've ever done, and we're gonna have plenty more coming up, so subscribe to the channel.
