#223 what is cheapest is not the right focus for flight training

Kenny Keller argues that picking the cheapest flight training is a mistake. Focus instead on instructor quality, school location, and equipment. Cheaper options often take longer and deliver worse results, like hiring the cheapest tow truck.

Hey, day 223 days almost slipped away from me. 223 days of videos. I'm Kenny Keller, creator of Helicopter Online Ground School, answering all kinds of questions daily about helicopter training. And this one's just going to be, you know what? The cheapest is not gonna necessarily be the answer. So many times on all these questions that people send in which, which are awesome, they keep going back to what's going to be the cheapest, what's going to be the cheapest. You shouldn't be looking at what's the cheapest. And I understand money is an object, right? It is for most everyone. But money over quality instruct of instruction in the long run, where's that going to get you when you're looking for the cheapest? And there are so many options between the helicopters you fly, what people charge at different flight schools, what their instructor rates are. So this one is for a gentleman that was just asked some questions and his looking at going to Part 141 or Part 1, Part 61, he's like, but which is the, which is going to be more expensive because you save time doing the 141. 141 may very well be the case in this one. But I just want to make the point that going the cheapest route is not necessarily going to be the, the best for you. Right? Again, there are so many options, so many helicopters out there, and it's kind of like, you know, I think about the question of, well, which helicopter should I fly? And when we were at Heli Expo this year and I was going around talking to the different manufacturers when they were talking to Tim Tucker of Robinson and he kind of shocked everybody when he said, I don't think it matters what helicopter you fly. What ha. What matters is the quality of instruction, you know, and the quality of the school that you go to. So when you pose the question of well, what's going to be the cheapest way? I don't think cheapest is the answer, you know, and that's. I work with anything in life. In life, right? I had a towing service for 10 years and I had a really large heavy duty truck and I did tractor trailers and semis and I had multiple winches and I could go out and roll a semi over with one truck, but I had a price on that truck per hour, right? The company down the road might go out and use two or three trucks, all at cheaper cost per hour. Somebody calls you up and what, what's it gonna cost to clean up this wreck, they throw a price at them, they give them their cheap truck price. And what that person may be able to do per hour, it takes them a lot longer to do it than the way I did it, you know. So the question of what is gonna be the cheapest when you're coming, when it's coming down, the flight training, that shouldn't be your focus. You should be focusing on a school that's near you, you know, flying where you want to be. Quality instructions, quality flight school, quality instructors. And I know that's, that's a lot of things to look at, but that's why it is a lot of money. But you need to do your research and you need to spend the time to really look into what is going to be right for you. Not be afraid to change schools, change instructors if things aren't going for going well for you. So I just want to put that thought out today so I give this out before midnight so I can stay in tune with the daily video. Day 223. Being the cheapest is not going to be the best answer. I mean, going in with the mindset of what is cheapest, I just don't think it's the way to do. It's not the way, that's not the way to do it. The way to do it is quality instruction. You know, quality instructors, good equipment. That's what's gonna get you, that's what's gonna be safe, what's gonna make the best progress for you. That's what you need to be looking at. So give us a like subscribe. When you do click that little bell, leave your comments down below and we will see you in day 224. Peace out.
